    @EverythingOutdoors Really like your boat building methods and the result. I have a few questions. I'll start with these if you don't mind:
    1) How did you attach the walls to each other (along their vertical joints) (method, hardware)?
    2) How did you attach the roof to the walls?

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      At the vertical joints I glued and screwed a 1x6 on one side of the joint and on the other side I fiber glassed across the joints and also did the same horizontally. The roof was framed in with 2x4's and plywood on top. It was all screwed down then fiber glassed. Then I glued down a rubber membrane that overlapped the walls a couple of inches.

      (Edited and removed some questions)
      Thanks.
      When you say you also did the same _horizontally_, do you mean on the wall / floor seam?
      How did you handle where the Filon needed to come into contact with or overlap the rubber mat at the top of the walls? I noticed an unfinished lip around the full perimeter of the composite wall when it was laying on the shop floor. Maybe that was part of the answer?

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@_onesimpleidea yes there is a 1x6 along the top of the wall and at the bottom of the wall with a layer of fiberglass where the roof and floor join together. The rubber roof membrane overlaps the Filon held down with adhesive and trim gutter.

    Very impressive build! I recently purchased a 1985 28’ party barge and I’m planning to build something very similar. What size tubes does your pontoon have? Mine are 21” in diameter. I’m thinking I’ll have to add a third tube to support the added weight. Thanks for all the great pointers. Looking forward to documenting and sharing my build.

    • @ew1421

      Mine has 28" tubes so you probably will need to add a third toon I got lucky on mine, I thought I would have to add a one also. good luck with the build. Thanks for watching.

    I'm interested - how did you do the roof?

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The roof is plywood that I joined together at the joints with fiberglass then I just glued down that rubber lining that they use on RV roofs. It's stretched over the side and held down with gutter trim

    I love this! I'm planning on doing the same thing. So your videos are a great inspiration. Question: What kind of sheathing did you use on the outside of your composite walls? Because it looks smooth and it's gorgeous.

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's called Filon. It is 8'6" wide and as long as you want. They can cut any length. It is glued on with contact cement. Thanks for the kind words.

    Looks awesome! What did you use for the outside of the walls?

  • @_onesimpleidea
    @_onesimpleidea 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    @ew1421 OK, these are my last "build" questions for now. Appreciate the help:
    1) When you placed the cabin on the floor layout, did you put it exactly in the middle of the boat (front to back) or closer to one end?
    2) Based on your experience now, if you had to start over, would you put the cabin farther forward or farther backward on the boat floor?
    3) Based on your experience now, if you had to start over, would you keep the full width storage locker at the stern, or would you split it in two with a gap, allowing you to reach the engine?

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@_onesimpleidea #1 the cabin is 1ft farther back than the front.
      #2 I wouldn't change it. You want the front a little higher for when it gets choppy and with a flat roof you want the water running off the back.
      #3 the back storage area doesn't go all the way across the back. There is a space on the starboard side where the swim ladder was. You can easily access the motor if you need to and I think that's important. You need to access the prop when trimmed up just in case you get something wrapped up in the prop.

    I really like how you constructed the walls. I notice the outside has a shiny surface. Is that just paint over marine plywood or did you cover it with a thin white metal skin like on DIY tear drop campers?

    • @ew1421

    Very cool! What's the diameter of the pontoons? That will dictate how well it carries the weight.

    • @ew1421
      @ew1421  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the diameter is 27 inches. I ran that way for two years but recently I got a good deal on a center toon also 27 inches and added it. it leveled it out but I lost top end speed by 3 knots. with the extra floatation of the center toon at low speeds I gained a lot more mph.
