What type of remote steering system do you have?
@@ronrieves due to having cable steering I went with a Intellisteer helm unit and connected it to the Garmin reactor 40 auto pilot with remote control. You can just use the Intellisteer remote control if you don't want auto pilot.
The shanty boat is bad ass, but that good girl fetchin a beer is probably the best part. Safe travels, brother.
@@brian954 Thanks!
Great job! You inspired me!
Man you killed it
Thanks!
what's your top speed with that 60HP?
@@luisaguirre6710 it's about 15 mph with a normal load and about 13 mph loaded full of fuel. Best cruise is about 9 mph. The lower unit is for houseboats it has a lower gear ratio and a bigger diameter prop for power not speed. And more power for reverse.
Nicer than anything available commercially
@@GuyColvin Thanks! be sure and watch episode #9 I added a few upgrades
Its bad ass. I could live full time on there.
@@josephhuckabee4702 thanks, be sure and check out episode #9 I did a lot of upgrades
One of the better DIY pontoon houseboat builds I've seen. Let me know when you want to let her go down the road. In the mean time, let's get cooking.
@@chefgiovanni hey thanks be sure and check out episode #9 I did a lot of upgrades. Thanks for watching
Beautiful build, I have a 30 ft Fiesta triple pontoon and i wish I had half your skills, put a sign on your shop that says PONTOON CONVERSIONS you would soon be a rich man LOL....good luck buddy
@@williampicaut6634 I wish I had the time to do conversions. Thanks for the kind words.
How did you or how do I get the remote control navigation system
The system is called Intellisteer. It will work with cable steering or hydraulic steering. I ordered it from Hodges marine. I have since added Garmin Reactor 40 auto pilot that hooks up to the Intellisteer helm unit so I can add a waypoint and auto pilot will find the best route so you don't have to steer at all until you get to your destination.
Pretty cool
Thanks!
Very nice job. Thanks.
Thank You!
If anyone knows where some 30 to maybe 40 would be the tops of the pontoons I'd like to have a couple,, I've got a couple of color three cylinder engines that came out of refrigerated trailers the motors are pretty low are the trailers are wrecked, also I've got to 650 V-Strom Suzuki engines with about 11000 mi on them, 81 of them would make great and bored engines. Or if anyone has any or if anyone has some tanks and would like to trade for engines let me know we're going to have to start this lady somewhere😂 I'm sure everyone against said that before
Could you tell after you put the Pontoon on did it do anything for your gas mileage or your say you're running an average 1500 horsepower did you get any more speed out of it just 0 guess what all was the extra pontoon what all kind of changes did you know in it I'm very curious because I'm thinking of doing it myself❤
@@glbaker5595 adding the middle pontoon just made it float higher and more stable. Really didn't do anything for gas mileage or speed.
This is great!
Greetings and Salutations I was only saying SEA DOO- PONTOON 772 times 😊
@@PartyCrewCoolPAD lol!
Got a 20 ft that I’m rebuilding. New wood floor, carpet is where I’m at now . Have all new seating still in boxes . But to convert to a little house toon kinda gets the blood flowing . Running a 90 hp 2 stroke Johnson . Decisions , decisions. lol . Guess that’s a good problem.
WOW!!! I was just thinking recently... I wonder if anybody has taken an old pontoon boat and converted it into a RV style camper and here you are! I see that you're in Oklahoma too! I live in the Moore/Norman area. I have a lot of RV experience and sailboat experience. I actually have a big fifth wheel. But I feel like I could get more seclusion on something like this and you can use it year round! What did you use for the framing on the walls and roof? Great boat! Thanks for the video!
I also live in the Moore/Norman area but I keep the boat in a slip on Eufaula lake. The walls are basically composite using plywood, fiberglass, foam board, paneling and 1x6 around the exterior and at the joints all glued together with a Filon skin for the exterior. It was the middle of winter so I built as much as I could in my shop then added it to the boat. The roof is framed out with 2x4's covered with plywood and fiberglass with a rubber membrane. It would be easier and cheaper to just frame out the walls on the boat.
Very nice build sir. You have just inspired me to build mine.
@@eddieinta6232 Thanks! It's a lot of work building one but it is definitely worth it. I take mine out every weekend.
@ew1421 OK, these are my last "build" questions for now. Appreciate the help: 1) When you placed the cabin on the floor layout, did you put it exactly in the middle of the boat (front to back) or closer to one end? 2) Based on your experience now, if you had to start over, would you put the cabin farther forward or farther backward on the boat floor? 3) Based on your experience now, if you had to start over, would you keep the full width storage locker at the stern, or would you split it in two with a gap, allowing you to reach the engine?
@@_onesimpleidea #1 the cabin is 1ft farther back than the front. #2 I wouldn't change it. You want the front a little higher for when it gets choppy and with a flat roof you want the water running off the back. #3 the back storage area doesn't go all the way across the back. There is a space on the starboard side where the swim ladder was. You can easily access the motor if you need to and I think that's important. You need to access the prop when trimmed up just in case you get something wrapped up in the prop.
@@ew1421 Thanks. Gives me a lot to chew on, but the picture is starting to come into focus. :)
@@_onesimpleidea Great!
We all could find room for improvement, but its your happiness that counts on this one
Good job on this project
@EverythingOutdoors Really like your boat building methods and the result. I have a few questions. I'll start with these if you don't mind: 1) How did you attach the walls to each other (along their vertical joints) (method, hardware)? 2) How did you attach the roof to the walls?
At the vertical joints I glued and screwed a 1x6 on one side of the joint and on the other side I fiber glassed across the joints and also did the same horizontally. The roof was framed in with 2x4's and plywood on top. It was all screwed down then fiber glassed. Then I glued down a rubber membrane that overlapped the walls a couple of inches.
@@ew1421 (Edited and removed some questions) Thanks. When you say you also did the same _horizontally_, do you mean on the wall / floor seam? How did you handle where the Filon needed to come into contact with or overlap the rubber mat at the top of the walls? I noticed an unfinished lip around the full perimeter of the composite wall when it was laying on the shop floor. Maybe that was part of the answer?
@@_onesimpleidea yes there is a 1x6 along the top of the wall and at the bottom of the wall with a layer of fiberglass where the roof and floor join together. The rubber roof membrane overlaps the Filon held down with adhesive and trim gutter.
@@ew1421 I really appreciate the info. I'll let you rest a bit before I ask a few more ;-)
@@_onesimpleidea Glad to help!
auto pilot wicked sick man
We have a 95 party barge we'd like to be able to camp on at the lake we go to. What did you use for the side panels to make the cabin?
@@lisab.thomas3407 The walls are basically composite made of plywood, foam board, and fiberglass. I prefab them in my shop then added them to the boat. It would probably be easier and cheaper to build studded walls like a camper in the boat. It was the middle of winter when I did mine so I wanted to get as much done in the shop.
@@ew1421 Thank you. I love what you've done! Maybe someday we'll take this on as a project. Right now we're still doing renovations on a 2005 travel trailer in case we ever need to evacuate from a fire (we're in California). But we love our nearby lake and camping on the boat is amazing even as is. A small houseboat would be the best!
@@lisab.thomas3407 Thanks!
Nice setup 👍🏾
Reminds me of the guy who feeds raccoons.
@@Metal_junk lol! I have seen the guy feeding the raccoons
How did you do the remote steering
@@konakma it's called intellisteer .. it will work with cable steer or hydraulic. Garmin auto pilot will also work with it. I added it last year and it works great.
SMART IDEA FOR SHORE POWER BUT A WATER HOOK UP ABOVE IT I WOULD CHANGE @ 9:42
Yes I agree dumb mistake. It hasn't been a problem but I do make sure I have a good connection before I turn the hose on. I also keep it unplugged while connecting the hose just to be safe. But even with the boat in the slip it still gets rained on while plugged in so not much I can do about that. Thanks for watching
You do good work!
Thanks!
I LOVE IT 🕊💖🕊
Thanks! I'm hanging out in it as I'm typing this 😆
So cool ! I recently came up with my own design. You could help me tremendously with just a few questions. I want to put a truck bed camper on a deck type pontoon boat. I can install solar and have enough equipment now, to run an solar electric motor for propulsion. The empty weights i saw were under 1200 ibs so I was wondering what length x width of a pontoon boat minimum that would would support that without being a big bobber! Thanks
I think you could get by with a 8'x24' with 27" diameter toons. One thing that concerns me is the electric propulsion. batteries are heavy unless you go with lithium and that would cost more than a small outboard. Also, you wouldn't be able to take it out on windy days or get caught in a storm. There is a reason why you don't ever see electric propulsion and that's because its just not practical. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching
What marina is that?
nine marina on Eufaula lake Oklahoma
You have blue prints?
I sure don't, I just had an idea of what I wanted and started building.
Where is the Grey Water Tank? Do you dump Black and Grey water into a portable tank?
All goes into black water tank and gets pumped out at the marina. Thanks for watching
this is the best poontoon boat show around ive ever been apart of. Greatful
Thanks!
Very impressive! Just one question, why no stove or cooktop? It seems like a must for any dwelling.
Because I'm lazy lol! I normally just cook out on the beach with a camp fire if I decide to cook. I go to the lake to relax not clean up. There's a lot of nice places to eat out where I keep the boat also. I do keep a Blackstone at the slip that I cook on. Thanks for watching.
Nice work.❤
The nicest home built houseboat I've ever seen. Bravo my man.
Thanks!
Would love to have something like this myself, but wouldn't be able to afford it on my disability income.
Your project has inspired me along my Pontoon Camping journey since 2017. We “the family” are having a blast too😊
Great to hear. Thanks!
Do you know were i can take a houseboat it doesn't have to be 5000 or low then 5000 dollars build
Could this fit under most bridges when trailering?
Yes, it's 12'- 8" to the top of the a/c. Legal height is 13'-6". Thanks for watching.
❤great girl!
I am 60 , never been married and have no children .... if we didn't have the three seasons here and lakes and waterways didn't freeze , I would live on a houseboat ...... this would be good for a weekend on the water , but to live on , no .....
It would take some getting used to living full time on it for sure. There are some other TH-camrs living on houseboats the same size. One guy is doing the great loop 6000 miles. Check out "Another Time Another Place" and "Backwaters and Backroads" the great loop adventure. Thanks for watching!
Those dogs are making darn'd sure you aren't gonna be leaving w/o them..... lol, are you on Lake Texoma or another & I am curious if there's any special drain systems in case you get water up into your floor inside? You're the 1st channel I've looked at & I'm thinking of building but there's questions we all would ask prior to starting a project? Anyhoo, LQQKs pretty good.
I keep the boat on Eufaula lake, OK I don't have any drains inside but I could just open the backdoor if I had to and let it drain out. Hopefully that will never happen. I have had it out in big waves and never felt uncomfortable. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I'm down here on Texhoma so we're neighbors.... and I'm subb'd/clanged da bell too. I'm brainstorming here which might be dangerous but your story kinda grabbed me in how you got into this & I'm thinking there's a lot of pontoons all around down in my neck of the woods. And that's a good start so I'll be chatting as I see your videos. Open the door, yes sir, I thought I'd ask. Thank you for taking the time to post peace
I'm not to far from you. Id like to come see it
This is one of the highest quality Shanties I've come across.
