"Out of Sight" was recorded by James Brown in 1964. It was A significant pop hit, reaching #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #5 on the Cashbox R&B chart.
The TAMI Show is a 1964 concert that included performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England. TAMI stood for both "Teenage Awards Music International" and "Teen Age Music International". The concert was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 28 and 29, 1964. Free tickets were distributed to local high school students. The best footage from each of the two concert dates was edited into the film, which was released on December 29, 1964. The TAMI Show is particularly well known for James Brown's performance featuring his legendary dance moves and explosive energy.
    Video transcript:
Wait a second. Wait a second. He's brought down houses from coast to coast. Where are the flames? Cool it a second, would you? And border to border. Where are the flames?
The Flames are right here. Tonight. James Brown and his famous Flames
Got your highest sneakers on. It's slippin' new. Got your highest sneakers on. And you're slippin' new. You're more than alright. You know you're out of sight

The first James Brown song where the Funk drumbeat appears was *"I've Got Money"* (1962 with Clayton Fillyau on drums) , but appears so fast that sounds more like protoJungle. With a more midtempo groove appears with Singles "Limbo Jimbo" and 1963's *"Soul Food"*.

He was the frontman of a few bands. His career lasted 5 decades.... He became more just the leader of the FAMOUS FLAMES. He went on and earned the title THE GODFATHER OF SOUL...

@@johnwhitfield5376 Those of us who are older, remember that JAMES BROWN was a member of THE FAMOUS FLAMES for some 15 YEARS BEFORE he went solo (1953-68) His years with THE FLAMES , to me, WILL ALWAYS be his BEST . He was younger ,stronger, and danced a lot better.and the FLAMES were a DYNAMIC Singing Group. NO OTHER R&B GROUP COULD TOUCH THEM .JAMES BROWN & THE FAMOUS FLAMES were the TERROR OF THE R&B CIRCUIT !! Berry Gordy once told The Temptations, "Do NOT mess with THE FAMOUS FLAMES !!" THAT'S HOW powerful they were.! Contrary to popular belief, James Brown did NOT get rid of The Flames. They quit HIM. Why ? Because his ego grew so big , he started messing with their money !! You don't do that to the guys who helped you get to the top...so THEY left HIM in 1968. And another thing: the TWO BIGGEST-SELLING ALBUMS James ever had in his LIFE, were his two live albums with THE FAMOUS FLAMES !! To this day, NONE of his "FUNK" stuff has even come CLOSE !! Back then , there was NO "Godfather of Soul". He didn't get THAT nickname until he was an OLD MAN.In the Fifties and Sixties , James was known as *"MISTER DYNAMITE"*, and *"THE HARDEST-WORKING MAN IN SHOW BUSINESS"!!* The ONLY reason that his BAND came to prominence, was because THE FAMOUS FLAMES were no longer there. Today, James Brown is in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Famous Flames are ALSO in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His Band (good as they are) are not. They were nominated , but not inducted, in 2015.

@@williamg2552 YOU ARE TOTALLY CORRECT… A young JAMES BROWN and THE FAMOUS FLAMES laid the blueprint for his signature sound and stage dynamics…. James Brown was a great artist and an amazing performer, but he definitely lacked the proper business and management skills. He wanted it all for himself. His selfish ego got in the way. He could have treated his bandmates a lot better. He could have paid them more. He should have given them publishing rights to songs that they co-wrote with him. In light of what you said. I just think of all the talent that he was aligned with. Bobbie Byrd, Maceo Parker, and later Bootsy Collins. The list goes on and on. The years with the FAMOUS FLAMES was definitely his most productive period. Songs like: OUT OF SIGHT, THIS IS A MAN’S WORLD, PAPAS GOT A BRAND NEW BAG, ETC….. It is just a cautionary tale of what happens when money, egos, and drugs cloud a man’s better judgment and common sense. He could have treated them a lot better. He was self-contained….He had the ability to right by them. They deserved BETTER. I TOTALLY RESPECT YOUR POINT. I was just saying… He is THE GODFATHER OF SOUL… But I totally understand he would have never reached that pinnacle without THE FAMOUS FLAMES…

@@johnwhitfield5376: Bobby Byrd was the founder of The Famous Flames...and the man who actually DISCOVERED James Brown . Without Bobby and The Flames , the world would have never even heard of James Brown. He would have remained locked away in prison on a 8-16 year stretch for Robbery . Once he got out, he would have probably continued the life of crime that got him thrown in the slammer in the FIRST place. Bobby changed his focus. He set him off on a different path: music. Byrd got his parents to get James out of prison, got him a job, and a place to stay (with THEM) and it was BOBBY that recruited him for his singing group, THE FLAMES. and James paid him back by stealing his royalties , salary, and fame that was rightly supposed to go to the entire group . Made sure that only HE got inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME....not them. Yes, the FAMOUS FLAMES got him where he was...but then he didn't show them an ounce of appreciation for it . To this day , almost everybody can name the members of the James Brown Band. But ask any one of them to name the members of THE FAMOUS FLAMES . Other than Bobby Byrd, most of them CAN'T !! (the others were BOBBY BENNETT , LLOYD STALLWORTH, and occasionally, JOHNNY TERRY.) That's because James Brown wanted it that way. He made sure that only HIS face was on the group's album covers...not THEIRS. It wasn't until after he DIED that the Famous FLAMES finally got their due...and their belated induction into the Hall of Fame. Most music historians agree: The FLAMES should have been inducted with James Brown back in 1986. By the time they finally DID get inducted in 2012, Bobby Byrd was DEAD. Lloyd Stallworth was DEAD, AND Johnny Terry was DEAD. BOBBY BENNETT was the ONLY one left alive to accept the induction for the group.

A lot of the younger generation only see clips from the 70's on up and they wonder, what's the big deal about JB? Anybody that knows the the deal knows that his prime was in the 60's. These r the clips the new generation should b exposed2. After viewing any clips from this time period only a moron wouldn't notice the swag that made him the best of his era and arguably the baddest solo performer of all time. Period!!!!!

James Brown's MUSICIANS were NOT members of The Famous Flames. They were part of a SEPARATE ENTITY known as The James Brown Band (later The J.B.s) . James Brown HIMSELF confirmed this on a 1982 appearance on The David Letterman Show. He said, and I quote: "The FLAMES were a SINGING GROUP. The BAND are The J.B's ".
