    Would a fault on this cause diesel to find its way into the oil and sump? My oil level is going up and it smells like diesel.

      Yes it can do but can also be injector seals double check which before you replace anything.

    As a rule, the gear wheel and housing of the gear pump are so worn that they also need to be replaced.

    Can u help me please. I have A3 2.0 tdi 2004. in the morning it has a hard start. after first start, its fine and start normally. if let it cool for 2 3 hours. have the same problem. i replacment, injector seals, glow plug, 2 injector, and no solutions.

    • @inthegarage4
      @inthegarage4  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sounds like you may have fuel running back to the tank after a period of time or one of the other injectors is faulty leaking the diesel into the cylinder over time. You could try a one way valve in the fuel line to eliminate the problem to before or after the tandem pump, will give you an idea where to look then. Only other thing but highly unlikely is in the tandem pump there is a pressure limiting valve in the return line out if that had failed but i doubt it.

    Thanks i did rebuild on my a4 b7 2.9 tdi bre, but now is leaking oil and the car brakes, before rebuild it was leaking diesel and had no brakes, no sure what i did wrong, any advise?

    • @inthegarage4
      @inthegarage4  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No brakes must mean you have a vac leak or the pump is no longer making vac to assist your brakes so possibly put something back together wrong. oil leak is probably from gasket between pump and head.

    Do you think it's an issue if I have put the main shaft seal the wrong way or not fully in? It was hella stiff and I am not sure I got it all the way in. Everything else assembled properly tho.

    When putting the new main shaft seal do you hammer it tightly or it is slightly away from the bottom? Cause mine takse quite a hammering to get inside and now it does not get to the bottom.

    • @inthegarage4
      @inthegarage4  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi i just tapped it in until it bottomed out you will here a change in tone when its seated, from what i can remember it took some force to tap it in.

    • @inthegarage4
      @inthegarage4  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really I turned the ignition on and off a few times to try and get as much fuel in the pump as possible and then cranked it over for about 10 seconds until all the air was out and it fired up.

      @@inthegarage4 whats a tandem pump for?

    • @mattmcgahan
      @mattmcgahan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zakkria Double chamber pump bolted to the cylinder head, driven by the camshaft. Inboard chamber creates vacuum for the brake servo so has a hose attached to it from the servo unit at the brake master cylinder. Outer chamber is a diesel fuel pump with an in and out hose connection. When the round 'garter' type seal you seen being replaced fails, diesel goes into the head and down to the sump pan, raising the oil level and of course thinning the oil.
