    I'm sorry not to have watched this video sooner! I had forgotten all about wired systems as a solution to my outdoor security camera network. But, now, I think this just might be the way to go. I need to see who, locally, installs such a system. We have a garage, separate from our house, that looks down our driveway. I'd like a camera mounted on the wall between the two garage doors, looking down the driveway. I have no idea how to get a wired camera there, but I bet installers accustomed to those systems could figure it out. Thanks for your insights, George!

      Wired is always the best way to go if you can do it. If you find an installer, we do sell & ship our wired systems anywhere in the U.S.

    Thanks so much George for another great review! Your videos are so helpful as I do my research on what cameras to go with. One of the things I didn’t like with the wired system I had in my last home was all of the cables/cords in my living room once the installation was completed. I mean they were neatly bundled but still there and visible.

      You’re absolutely right and bring up a good point. That is one negative-the wire mess. As professionals, we kind of know how to hide that (as much as possible at least), but if you’ve never done it before, it can get messy real quick.

    Hi Man, great video. What would you suggest for a five bedroom house 4000 square-foot, when I already have a hardwired system in that is not even working anymore because it’s dated from 2006. It’s a Gemini system here is a picture. I have one of the control panels in master bed and one in kitchen . I really would like to have motion detection, and cameras I also would like to have a couple of lights that automatically go on because I think that’s a deterrent as well. Advice?

    Great video honestly the best most informative video on TH-cam for security cameras . You answered everything I was confused about with getting a new system. We currently have a wireless set up and makes my husband mad because the fail rate is extremely high it misses so much then will be going off every 20 seconds on windy days for nothing .
    It’s not really more expensive , up front yes but the cost of the monthly subscription over the years and cameras replaced and fail rate of wireless plus the stress of the inconsistency of it not performing because of wifi .
    Also if you do have a unfortunate situation where your property is burglarized or vandalized who knows if you wireless cameras got the even . Ours sure didn’t . Useless our ring system
    Great video thank you!!!

      Not to discourage you from going wired, because it’s never a bad idea, but just a thought on your outdoor IQ…if you go to store.Google.com they are still selling the weatherproof power cable for the outdoor IQs. It’s not exactly the same cable, but it works & it would make your IQ still usable. Might be worth checking out.

    Can you have a wired system but not have a monitor but just see it on your mobile device

  • @nycegraphix302
    @nycegraphix302 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I recently stumbled up on a few of his surveillance reviews and thought that he explained things really well. My only confusion is why he keep saying certain surveillance cameras are drug dealer cameras. My first security system was Lorex. At my place of business I have Swann. I currently have Night Owl at my home. I don't get it, because I never sold drugs a day in my life. I also have a few friends with these same setups who does not sell drugs. Other than that he seems really knowledgeable when it comes to this surveillance stuff.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Before cameras became mainstream in the residential market (like they are today), it was more widely known by law enforcement that only “drug dealers” had cameras on their homes. Back in the day, if you had cameras on your house, it made you look like a criminal. Those brands I mentioned, were the cameras that were used at the time. So it was more of a running gag with law enforcement, I’m not actually calling people that own these cameras, drug dealers.

    Another Great Video Hammer! Had to dig for this one. Quick question, are there any wired security cameras that also have WiFi as a backup? for Example if the system goes down or loses power can the wifi still pick up video? Thank you for your videos they're really helpful.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. There are wired systems that have cloud backup (from Alibi the brand we sell). 2. Wired camera systems don’t require internet. You can go old school and just watch your cameras with a monitor. So with a wired system on a battery back up power supply, it will always be working.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice! I’m trying out that camera as well…you bring up an interesting topic that’s hardly talked about, as far as car security. That’s a tough one. I find that newer cars are getting more and more advanced as far as security measures built in. But the day of after market security measures on older cars is becoming a thing of the past. I’ve put normal cameras on older vehicles and hidden cameras in older vehicles, but even on older models, it’s always tricky because of the need of constant power. You brining this up makes me think how interesting it is that my customers don’t ask the same question. Because they should. But even if they did, you just made me realize there’s not many options nowadays. Now I’ll be thinking of new options. Thanks for the comment!

      Some wifi cameras do have micro sd slots have a limited recording time, however, if the camera is on the 2nd floor outside its hard to get too. Otherwise you have to be connected to some network for it to record.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, some cameras do, sparing you a monthly cloud fee. You’re also right, having your cameras out of reach is key. You just don’t want to go to high, or you’ll start to lose details on the image. Wi-Fi cameras are just that. They rely on Wi-Fi to operate. There are some Wi-Fi cameras that will function and record locally if your internet goes out (like the newer Nest Cams), but for the most part they need a strong Wi-Fi signal to function.

I am so frustrated with the delay...you are talking about 2 to 3 second delay after the fact....THAT SUCKS...So, im looking to re-hauling my who system from away from WIFI to hard wire....Question, I have two of my Arlos position up in my palm tree facing towards my backyard and another facing my front door( and one up on top of my A-Frame looking over my cars in front and street...I want to be able again....have an app on my phone, someone rings my door, my phone alerts(not after 4 seconds) when a car drives by home...NOT 3 to 4 seconds delay, I want super fast alert, i want to zoom up to cars license plates...Possible lights on the camera to shine and able to two-way talk? There is my frustration of WIFI(no More) hello old school Hardwire(hopefully with more tech options)? What do you think.....

      I’m afraid what you’re looking for is the perfect system & sadly it doesn’t exist. Lol. There are trade-offs with Wi-Fi systems & trade-offs with wired systems. I wish I was an engineer so I could design the perfect system, but sadly I am not. Lol

    I been looking for a while now for good cameras. I keep thinking about how people defeat something like this. No matter how much money you spend on the cameras I can't help but think about a can of spray paint. I believe a cheaper setup is just as good if they are true 4k. Just like I have always told people locks are to keep honest people out. I can't handle spending thousands on a setup just to feel better when something gets stolen.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been doing this a long time & of the hundreds of systems we’ve installed, I’ve never had a single camera get spray painted (or defeated for that matter). A cheaper set up is better than nothing, but depending on where you live, a cheaper setup is only going to last a couple of years. With camera systems, you get what you pay for.

    Security Alarms are the beginning part of securing your house. But where you mention the downfalls of them you seem to be talking about the cheaper wireless versions. Even the older Vista 20s, the Concord 4, and the newer DSC NEO. They each can be hardwired. They are tough systems, and camera systems do not have life saving options such as smoke detctors that can be added. They have a battery backup built into them and if absolutely needed each have a wireless receiver that can be added. They function off cell signals instead of the internet and do not have to be monitored. One of the biggest things is they can alert your neighbors of a break in where cameras alone cant.
    In truth, to secure your home, you need both an alarm system and a surrveilance camara system (not one that just takes clips and resets for 30 seconds.)

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never said you shouldn’t layer your security. Never once. And yes, I am talking about basic alarm systems, because my channel is for the average homeowner & average consumer. Of course there are systems out there with all sorts of additional benefits, but they are not as readily available and tend to be very expensive. So I’m talking about your average person having the choice to be proactive compared to reactive. & you are incorrect. There are plenty of cameras that have smoke detectors & CO detectors built in. There are also plenty of cameras, DVR & NVRs that have built-in battery back ups. There are also plenty of camera systems that don’t require internet at all. Plus, cameras that also operate on cell signals instead of Wi-Fi (as if cell signals are any more reliable). So you might just need to broaden your horizons as far as cameras that are available. You talk about security systems “alerting your neighbors”. Please tell me what that will accomplish? Are you going to put your neighbors in harms way as they deal with your criminal? Or are they going to call the police just so the criminal can be long gone before the cops arrive? Either way, they are not going to “save the day” I’m afraid.
      I’m all for whatever gives a person peace of mind. But it needs to be a measure that works.
