We love watching how each drummer approaches the song differently with their own unique signature style.🤤 Who should we get to collab next? 🤔
Dorothea Taylor should be one of them!
Please get El Estepario Siberiano in one of these. 🤘
samus66, estepario siberiano, tomas lang, virgil donatti
Marcio Bahia, from Brazil. Don't you know him? Nice guy, teacher, ambidextrous, a master and "the king" of brazilian rhythms. In fact, he plays everything. ✨ He is bold!
Y'all need to get Danny Carey on here at some point playing some funk
Everybody talking about Larnell Lewis and his incredible skills here, but I think that the incredible skills of Larnel Lewis and his incredible skills are worth mentionning too
Oh man, you're forgetting about Larnell Lewis.
@@joseledesma4776 Crap! I thought about it but I forgot to write it:
*Larnell Lewis*
Dude, yeah, he was great. But that Larnel Lewis guy? SHEEESH
Larnell is so underrated.
U got me in the first half of reading. Ngl!!🤣🤣
All great players, But Larnell is from another dimension.
His playing is unbelievably clean. Every hit is so intentional.
@@jeewilly321 Interdimensional too
@@jeewilly321 That's it! You can feel how intentional he hits.
Exactly what I was about to write.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum Yeah I know
I'm the King of Chorlobortens.
The way Larnell Lewis strings thoughts and phrases together while always respecting dynamics and musicality is unrivaled
Absolutely. Maestro! 🙌
Honestly the only guy I can think of that is similar is Carter Beauford. Both so musical it's insane
Larnell for sheer musicality !
What he said!!!
I love how when drummers aren’t told what to play you hear their background and personality. Larnell with jazz melodies.dennis with funky syncopations, hannah with catchy pop breaks and arron with those gospel chops.
it goes shows how much a drummer can influence the feel and vibe of a song.
@@killdozer3464totally.
It’s incredible how much each drummer’s style, sound and phrasing completely change the vibe of the song. Wow.
Can you describe what exactly is different between them? I'm not a musician, but I'm very interested. I tried listening without watching, and realized that I couldn't tell when the drummer was changing if my life depended on it.
@@youknowwho9247same here
RIP Aaron, you was such a kind hearted person and amazing drummer that inspires lots of people.
You'll be remembered legend
Larnell is amazing. But I really appreciate Hannah too. There's something about the space she leaves that really speaks loudly.
She plays tastefully simple
Yes 👍🏼
Tastefull vs drumming for the sake of being clever
I really dug what Hannah played on this. It wasn't flashy for the sake of it and it held the groove well; I could nod my head along and wasn't worried I would lose the 1.
Totally agree. You can’t play for Prince without that groove!
Say what you may but Larnell's dynamic playing is something else!
Larnell's kit sound and take on this is head and shoulders better. He is so tight. His rhythm, feel and chops are just on another level. He never looks like he is unsure about what to play. He is so dialed. And his drums sounded soo much better! Granted, I love Dennis! In his prime he was unstoppable.
Hannah and Larnell are so melodic with their drumming it's almost like they aren't playing percussion.
Dennis Chambers; Just saying his name I got goosebumps. Larnell is simply not human. Aaron has a musicality that makes you dance, love his chops. Hannah played it so polite and with good taste by choosing that fills and phrasings
They’re all great, I personally loved how Larnelle’s kit sounded.
Mr Larnelle Lewis is just something else 🔥🔥🔥 Aaron Spears, the king of chops!!!
Spears didn’t even come close
King of chops goes to Chris Coleman
Larnell and Dennis just take the cake here! So much style and groove!
Hannah Welton really is unbelievably amazing. Her feel is crazy! I was with her the whole time with her ideas.
R.I.P Aaron Spears.
Amazing to watch all four but there's something able Dennis and Larnell's performances. Excellent
Larnell and Hannah were easily my favourites but it's hard to pick one given how different they obviously are. I love the drum tones, power, and relentless creativity of Larnell without being too obnoxious, however the performance I would be most likely to listen back to for fun, and the one that was by FAR the grooviest, was Hannah's. I think Hannah undoubtedly understood the groove and overall feel of the music the best and chose not to turn it into a show-off fest like many drummers do (even in this very video). Easy to see why Prince appreciated her playing. Love it.
The female had the least ego. So.... she was content to just groove.
What you don't understand is that this isn't even showing off. Idk why you people always make that assumptions. Dudes are just trying to have fun and put their spin on it
Just because she doesn't have the chops to "show off" doesn't mean she's better lol
@@HugoStiglitz88 it's really annoying when people talk about drummers being better, when its all based on how FAST they can hit the drums. So damn annoying! A real musician judges better/worse by how MUSICAL a musician plays, and in the case of modern drumming that's mostly about groove, and how much their sound makes you want to dance.
@@HugoStiglitz88 you seem to have completely missed the point of my comment. See Gruuvin1's comment since it explains my point of view equally well.
@@HugoStiglitz88 essentially, drums are an accompaniment instrument. To the world of flashy Internet drum soloists this may be tough to hear or understand, but their primary function in almost every scenrio is to enhance and serve the music as a whole, not to try to steal the limelight at every available opportunity. Hannah did this exceptionally well, and markedly better than any of the players in this particular video. Sorry to rain on your drum-gymnastics parade.
It's really cool that you got these 3 superb drummers to accompany Larnell Lewis.
The way my jaw dropped how Larnell arraged this need his full version NOW!!!
you all tear it the fuck up. but Hannah Welton you just killed it.
I will listen to anything by Dennis Chambers all day long.
Me too
Best in the world as far as I'm concerned, has been for years.
It’s all fills? 💩
Can he even play without showing off? Nope 😅
@@adamnicol4271 He's a legend for sure, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he's the best in the world.
Not going to use his current version, but in my opinion, Larnell Lewis is more tasteful than Dennis in his prime. Both excellent drummers nonetheless.
Larnell’s feel is so crazy good even compared to some of these other drumming greats.
This is such a fun idea - you get such a sense of everybody's style. Particularly love Hannah's cheeky, tight groove, and also DAMN the sound of Larnell's kit - just so satisfying and smooth
Hannah was to my personal preference favourite but I could appreciate just how awesome they all were. RIP to Aaron.
There's something about Larnell's creativity and precise execution that is so impactful, he's constantly making statements with ease. Chamber's to me is the other standout, just a classy player, love his snare work. Hannah has a great pocket presence. Was hoping to get 4 full takes and not a mash-up, that was a bit of a letdown.
No one stays locked in, grooves like crazy, goes off script, and tickles your brain quite like Larnell.
You know what I noticed in the video?
The space in the fills make things sound so much groovier 🔥
As someone who overplays, this is what I gotta learn 🤣
Larnell and Hannah really accomplished that. They did so much more with "less" and let the space create dynamic.
And how Larnel’s kick is just as fast as his hands so he can incorporate that into his fills is just mind blowing
@@bryancamacho101 incredible use of ghost notes and open hi hats too
Same dude. I'm really struggling right now and overplaying is one of my main problems
@@DavePilotCH47 yea his foot speed and dynamics are sick. He could be a ridiculous metal drummer if he wanted. A metal drummer with some real groove sensibilities and soloist techniques. Kinda like Matt Halpern
The sound of Larnell's drums is out of this world🔥🇿🇦
The way denis chambers time feel just bounces is so inspiring!
Just watched this three times in a row. Seriously amazing stuff here and I love the mash up. These drummer's sense of timing is absolutely unreal! To have a 2 to 4 bar complete break like that and hit right back in is no easy feat. They do it so effortlessly with complicated offbeat fills with lots of open space. So freakin' impressive.
I would really like to get the version of all 4 performances if that is possible.
Yes, hope they put it out
They're also playing to a click track so it isn't as hard to keep time. Much harder for us with those ridiculous fills, desperately tapping my foot to try to keep track of where the one is lol.
Jeez, how does Larnell always sound soooo good without being too busy sounding.
I think Larnell felt more comfortable in this genre. Amazing video. Thanks to everyone!
I feel like Larnell, and Dennis plays to the music, Hannah, plays to the song, and Aaron just put all his awesomeness in every space that ge could as long as he stays on beat. Amazing drummers.
Larnell Lewis = fantastic soul Groove. I love it
What a great mashup! Would be fantastic to have them (and others) record more such mashups ... Great idea!
Just got back to this video after a while. Can never get enough of it alk great drummers. As wel as RIP to brother Aaron still man gone to soon!!❤️🙏🏾🕊️
That - was cool :) There were only a couple of clips where it seemed the tempo sped up just a tad. But still it was a very good idea of how these drummers basically played the same ideas for the same parts of the song but with different expressions, in a few clips quite different. Larnell Lewis is my favorite of these masters, he's amazing.
That is so funkin cool.. We know Dennis paved the way for the other 3.. All are amazing!
This is such a great concept for a video! If there are more of these done in the future, I would love to hear a tune where these drummers primarily groove, rather than solo. It's really interesting to me to hear how Dennis chooses to play his hihats in more of the foreground than Larnell does, or how Aaron throws in the subtle flam rather than a conventional fill during his early groove, or how both Hannah and Dennis seem to go for the same open-hat accent on the last section out. or how Larnell catches some of the rhythms on his crashes. It's one thing to hear these greats over a blank canvas, but it's REALLY fascinating to see them bring their approach to the blueprint that is this groove.
When I was 8 years old in 1998, I saw Dennis Chambers with Steely Dan for my first official concert. It was incredible! Then I saw him with Santana about a decade later. Also incredible!
There's something clean about Larnell Lewis' playing.
For a gig, I'd hire Hannah actually.
Larnell is on another level, always
The only thing I wish you did was have a metal drummer as well, just to see how different that would've been compared to these 4
Larnell is musically untouchable with incredible chops to match. Everything sounds like a story.
theres a reaon they used larnell's playing in the intro. man is a damn animal!!
Very cool idea Drumeo 👏 For me it’s Dennis and Larnell. Phenomenal players.
We are the definite winner of this battle. Each of these drummers killed it.
It's the spaces between the note choices that puts Larnell in a different dimension.
I’m liking the 4 different styles, tuning, kits, and perspectives on one song.
never in my life have I head a drum kit mic'd so good, and played so good!!
Precise editing!
Wow that's so beautiful, all incredible drummers... so musical, so powerful... INCREDIBLE!
What is really great are the smiles and just how much fun they are having. Love it!
Some of the players resonated more than others with me, but Larnel Lewis was like perfection. There wasn’t a thing I didn’t love that he played. Wow.
That was great. Shows thier unique approach through how they fill those gaps. All of those drummers are fantastic. Killer
You gonna LOVE this part 1:28
Not enough people on here talking about how amazing Aaron Spears is!
!!!!!
I love how Hannah just keeps it balanced all the time. Not too flashy. Not taking over the song. Just solid grooves and leaving space for the "band". All phenomenal drummers in their own regard but I feel like this kind of drumming is often overlooked as being "too simple" so I feel it deserves a little bit of extra attention 👍🏻
This was great! If you make a similar mash-up, I would love to see Senri Kawaguchi, Sarah Thawer, Tony Royster Jr and Vinnie Colaiuta.
bruh you read my mind. Especially with Tony...
As a non-drummer-Hannah Welton by a mile. Feels super melodic and danceable to me!
Congrats on picking the least talented drummer lol
@@fohrum4757 lol this is true. I like her, I like her sound, but she's incredibly average compared to these other players 💀
You can’t point out that she’s average or you’re a bigot guys. The fact is, if she was a dude, you’d have never heard of her. There’s some really great female drummers, she ain’t one of them. Facts.
@@itsDelfi you can say she didn’t go super flashy or over played the fills but average that’s what someone with average talent would call a professional drummer. She plays the song and gives the song what it needs, nothing more. Others are more of solo or have bands as a drummer and gospel back round for playing which is why they do those type of fills. I prefer Her approach for this funk tune. It’s not average by any means. This is what professional drumming sounds like and she is a complete pro
I think Hannah actually played it safe compared to the others
Um...more of exactly this please. That made my weekend.
With Larnell he's so complete it's like the song was written around his drums.
Love Larnell's pocket in the main groove and Dennis's left foot work in the solo parts
Larnells drums sound incredible, the tuning and resonance is just epic.
I'm always blown away by how good his drums sound. Very noticeable in this video
I love this idea. My friends and I used to trade 4’s all the time on two kits and it was always fun to hear new stylistic approaches to the same groove!
I really enjoy Hannah in this, her solos are so well paced and don’t go into overplaying territory. She’s also tremendously entertaining to look at from her infectious energy.
Ehh... Prince didn't have her play because she's super technical, she's just got solid meter, and he had a thing for female drummers.
you can see how they're all very passionate about what they do
Man Dennis Chambers of course, he is unbelievable, amazing and the Greatest of all🤯
AMAZING VIDEO MAN WE LOST A LEGEND RIP AARON MAN HOW THIS HAPPEN HE PLAYS SO GOOD MAN RIP BRO GOD BLESS YOU IN HEAVEN 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Arrived at this vid via Snarky Puppy. All of these drummers are great. Thanks, Drumeo!
I like Hanna best I think. She plays it straight, without too much ego getting in the way of the groove.
She played it safe. I feel like that's what most average drummers will do
Larnell is obviously the king but Hannah had such a contagious groove and consistency that is so pleasing to listen to
I really wonder if Prince truly was the best drummer in his own band, cause Hannah definitely can play. The legend is that Prince was better than each member of his band at their own instrument. He really wouldve been the most talented musician ever if that was the case.
Larnell lewis and hannah welton stand out
great video.. Loved them all 4.... dennis my hero since my youth till now...loved the chops of Aaron ..I do felt his groove less ..it felt more pushing forward than in the pocket..dont know if others had the same feeling but his technique was sky high... and may he rip gone too soon... Larnell and hannah loved them also ...so many different approaches to the song.... great sounding drum kits... mixed very very well...
They're all great and the kits sound great too!
Cool concept. Amazing drummers. You've done it again, Drumeo!
I loved Aaron Spears' kit! Hannah Welton is amazing, some of her tracks with Prince have lots of soul, Something in the Water (Does Not Compute) never sounded so sad.
Larnell outclasses them all because he's just grooving instead of trying to impress us.
Dennis Chambers and Hannah Welton used less complicated fills which fit the music 100% more and were 100% more enjoyable to listen to IMO.
This was a cool video but if I had one request it would be if you could do it again but with a more normal song rather than a song with a bunch of breaks for them to solo over. I'm more interested in seeing how all of them would interpret the rhythm differently.
That's just me though. Still, amazing stuff. All 4 legendary.
I loved this comparison, each with their unique touch and sound
Chambers has always been a serious drummer takes pride in his Drumming skills. Stays with in the pocket.
I'll choose Larnell Lewis any day. Incredible understanding of music. His notations are just great.
Dennis still killed it!
Larnell’s fills take me on a trip I want to go on. Hannah leaves room to breathe triggering anticipation what the next lick will be.
Amazing blazing chops by the brothers for sure , but for me it was Hannah’s space and funk vibe. I love groove, pocket and funk.
Why some miss this I don’t know lol she did the song right or did right by the song, she’s that pro drummer always doing what the music is asking for. I mean I love the crazy fills and things the others did but to listen to the song groove and playing I rather do it like she did on this one.
Hannah killed it! Really held onto that groove and didn’t lose it in the fills like the others. Played perfectly.
Hannah for the feel
Larnell for the technique
So nice to see them smile so wide while playing.
more Larnell Lewis please!!!! I love his style
They are all very good, each one in his way of playing transport you ..
Yes...l am a huge fan of all 4 of these very special iconic drummers. Other favorites of mine are Robert "Sput" Seawright, Sonny Emory, Chris Coleman, Christopher Patrick Bounds, Senri Kawaguchi and Calvin Rodgers. Thank you for the entertainment.
So much fun!! Thanks Drumeo!!!
Of course the drummers are great, but the work by Drumeo is absolutely ASTOUNDING! Great concept, and highest level of professionalism and excellence in presenting this invaluable service to ALL music-lovers. Wish this had been around in the 70's and 80's when I was a young drummer... no doubt I would have turned out 'average at best' anyway, but still...
That was so unbelievably awesome!
Hannah and larnell! 🔥
