Thanks for having me again Jay! Glad you enjoyed the 296
Your dedication to Ferrari is really something! I thought those were stains on your shirt until I looked closer 🤣
Thank you, David!
You're a lucky man Mr Lee. I could sit and chat with you and jay about cars for hours. I know my late father would feel the same. I'm actually reading a 1950s book about Ferrari in motorsport. A very interesting read 😎
That is a beautiful car. And it put a smile on Jay’s face more than once. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for bringing all the history to Jay’s channel
Jay is a cool dude cause he respects his friend David enough to showcase Ferrari's on his channel even though Jay has a personal gripe with them and doesn't own a single Ferrari himself
What’s that beef with Jay vs Ferrari?
@@AliasHSW He briefly explains it in this short interview clip th-cam.com/video/VUPOvcolNZg/w-d-xo.html
@@hd-be7di - yeah I remember that interview. Thought it was something more scandalous than Ferrari’s snobbery.
Why doesnt he buy a used one then???? No dealership to deal with
They were built terribly for decades and to repair them it would cost the owner a fortune. Durability also was of a lower standard than you would expect and he is right about the snobbery of Ferrari, who would want a car company suing them because they want to paint it or wrap it or make it their own. But Ferrari aren't the only super car company that has their problems. All of them do, especially McLaren, they're known for their sloooy build quality and their engines are known to detonate at a certain mileage.
I'm definitely not a fan of Ferraris. But that David Lee guy seems like such a nice unpretentious real enthusiast compared to what we perceive as the standard Ferrari snob, I always look forward to videos that include him. It's a great thing he is a good friend of Jay
he's definitely the antithesis of the "ferrari guy" stereotype
Truth!
My thoughts exactly!
I have a feeling you are the least qualified person on the planet to be discussing these topics
He is an incredible guy, even behind the scenes. Love and appreciate him.
I tracked this car in COTA during my Corso Pilota Certification. After turn 11 before the long straight it went to 181 mph before reaching the off gas zone. It's an impressive car. I have driven almost all Ferraris since the Testarrossa all the way to the SF90 and this 6 cylinder is perhaps the best car for the track.
I will destroy you with a Z06 any day any time.
It is a very capable car on track. I think my biggest disapointment with it was the steering. Compared to an SF90, F8 or 488, there is zero steering feedback. I also can’t get along with the laggy throttle. Below 5500 rpm nothing happens. It does not have thevurgency and response in the throttle of the other cars. I had a GTS AF car on order, but after having tested a GTB AF car, a GTS AF car and a regular GTS I cancelled my order. I find my SF90 and F8 much more engaging. It lacks that sense of “I want to kill you” drama.
Too much entry level, not in the sense of price, but in the sense of being too mild and easy to drive.
@@AB-80Xinteresting, you’re the first person to mention not liking the car that I’ve experienced, especially the laggy throttle as everyone is raving about the throttle response with the electric assist
Always love an episode with David Lee!
Can’t believe david lee bought one of these disgusting things😂 he couldn’t even handle the old Dino, he put an F40 V8 in it
@@KCJbomberFTW. “Disgusting things” ??!
The fact that the V6 engine in the 499P that won Le Mans a few weeks ago was the same V6 engine from the 296 GTB makes me realize about the engine's amazing performance. I'm not a fan of the 296 GTB in general, but that engine is crazy!
GT3 won 24 Nurburging
yeah the performance seems incredible and it's cool to see the reliability proven in those races. It could sound better but it's good for a V6
@@massimobernardo-exactly. This car has already won a major race.
The horsepower they get from a 6 cylinder is simply amazing
You can get more from a 2JZ.
The Ford, 4X4, Raptor, 4-door, is a manly, he-man pick-up truck with a four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine in it, that truck moves right along and will get deep into the woods with no issues.
@@stankygeorge I would never buy a truck that wasn't manly.
I like that Jay still can relate to things being expensive.
Also and he likes the price and thinks it's "competative". It's $345K, tell me, who can afford that aside from elites and 2%'ers or people who have nothing to spend their money on?
Jay could eliminate hunger in a small country with the money he has spent hoarding cars for himself.
@@Polyfusia…How about putting birth control in the drinking water?!? 🤷🏼♂️
@@eddieg6436
Yes!
@@Polyfusia And you could provide wind power to that country for a month with the hot air supply you seem to have available
WOW!!! That is the best sounding V6 EVER!🤯
Giulia Quadrifoglio enters the chat.
Thanks Uncle Jay!
You always say why you wouldn't own one.
And then David confirms it, "you have to be a top buyer to get one of these!"
No Thanks.
Rodney used to say,
"I don't wanna be part of any club,
that would let someone like me in it!
Stay Well, Jay.
I feel like part of David’s joy of owning this car was taking it over to Jay’s. The experience of having the car wouldn’t be complete without sharing it…
Watching David bring his cars to Jay reminds me of bringing my cars to my Dad. I could think my latest car is the greatest car ever but, my Dad was the greatest critic ever. He’d climb in and before he even started the engine he’d say something like, “You see now…this turn signal stalk? This is all wrong here. It’s coming off the steering column at 93 degrees…that’s garbage. Anything more than 88 degrees and you’re really just ruining the entire driving experience…for everybody.”
Fortunately, Jay is always very complimentary of his guest’s cars, especially David’s.
Love the new Ferrari, and love the David Lee episodes! The mid-80s 288 GTO is still my favorite though. Seeing one in person is still a bucket list item for me 🙂
I got to see Lou Mascaro's GTO at a gas station some years ago. He had an F50 there as well... I got a short ride in the F50! Memorable day!!! His collection is absolutely awesome and on display to the public in SE Pennsylvania.
I saw my first 288 GTO at the Chicago auto show. It's still my favorite.
My fave is the GTO i did see an F40 and all i kept looking at was the rear & the wing as it just seemed so wide
Some acoustic wizardry was done to make a V6 sound like a V8 Ferrari. Impressive.
Ferrari did an incredible job with the 296! I was pleasantly surprised by it when I drove one last year. Having reverse flow heads is brilliant from a packaging standpoint and gives the added benefit of making it sound more like a baby V12 than the V6 it is.
It's not the heads. It's the 120 degree layout.
@@aldo6192 thank you! I'm actually working on it. I have my own TH-cam channel that does cover car reviews as well as everything else in my life automotive related.
@@LifeatSpeed Don't think it was a compliment
I don't understand why they're always repeating that it's not wide. It really is, it's a few millimeters narrower than the SF90 that they say it's too wide. At 1.96m, it's as wide as most supercars/hypercars, definitely wider than all typical sports cars
Such a clean lines car! An instant classic!!
I love the size and body style. Not a fan of the graphic but I could live with it.
Just what I was thinking.... Nice looking car, but a bit of an unfortunate paint job in my opinion. Especially from the front. But won't ever be a "problem" I have to deal with 😉
You can delete that silly stripe.
The paint job is because of the lightweight package. It comes with all of them. I'm not sure if you can delete it with that package or not but I'd rather not have it either.
I would love to see this car and almost any other color or paint scheme
@@sling14 I checked the configure on the Ferrari website. It let me uncheck both color options for the silly stripe.
Absolutely stunning car. Reminds me of the old Dino
It's a beautiful car with lots going for it but I'm not a fan of the silver paint pattern on the hood, it destroys the clean lines of the car. The rear looks good but the hood needs more Yellow and much less Silver
Yeah the gray looks kind of tacky for my taste 😊
Would be more authentic with white markings -- like Ferrari ran at Le Mans in the sixties (?) and seventies. :0)
@@williamr3840 indeed
I like it though
It’s worst then that…. The silver nose means it’s a track edition and won’t have the lift for the raise front because it’s always great to drive track cars on regular roads said nobody…. Rip buttocks
Happy to still see these videos going. Keep it up!
Such a beautiful automobile... Stylish to the point of timeless. Hybrid bringing it to the modem age. This car will be a collectible classic in no time...
To bad it's 🟡yellow
Exactly my point!!!! I love this design it's so beautiful. I saw one today at a car show and I stood for 30 minutes it has a great presence🔥 love it
Dave: "jello moderna".
Jay: "see the brake drums"
Love these guys 😁
Pfew, finally an upload which isn't an advertisement..., as this channel once purely was. More of these please, and especially more concerning restorations also. Enzo's former secretary Brenda Vernor, featured on Tyrrell's Classic Workshop not that long ago, did reveal that yellow was indeed the preferred colour in the American market, and this certainly does indeed shine through here. You guys should feature a Purosangue at the nearest opportunity... In my personal view, Ferrari is the only one so far who have succeeded to blend the concept of an SUV with Sports. They may have been late to the game, but they've nailed it as no other. Thank you for showing this one, and Cheerio.
I love this car. I think its one of my favourite Ferraris ever. Simple lines, compact and agile and enough power.
Jay, if he hasn't already, needs to buy a 296GTB.....these are the best Ferrari's probably made in the past 50yrs....these things are first and foremost, absolutely gorgeous, really brings back the old 60s race Ferrari styling.... and secondly.... BRUTALLY fast..... brutally.
You're talking a SUB-7 second Nurburgring time....
Then add a Tubi exhaust, and this thing sounds absolutely incredible.
God i wish I had the money 😅
What both Jay and surprisingly Dave don't realize is, this 296GTB is actually faster than the SF90, once you're off the line.... and if i can recall correctly, I'm pretty sure it's actually faster IRL in the ¼ and ½ mile.... this thing is literally a unicorn.... it's like, Ferrari F'd up and made this thing "too fast" and didn't realize it....buy one now.....i can only see this thing going through the absolute roof once people realize how utterly insane this car really is 😂
7 seconds at Nurburgring is pretty dang fast!!!
@@ApexHunter89 🤣🤣 I didn't even realize I typed seconds instead of minutes 😅
Yes, this is the very old Ring that nobody uses anymore, just a little strip, 7 seconds is the time to beat there 😂
I knew David Lee had to be involved...Jays Ferrari owning friend as Jay once said he would never own one... and one should never say never...
Yup. The moment I saw Ferrari I knew he'd be visiting.
That is definitely a Ferrari even with just 6 bangers. Beautiful!
Love it when David is with Jay. You can tell they both respect each other.
No it is not, it s an abomination
This was a delight to have Mr. Lee and his beautiful Ferrari reviewed by Jay Leno. Two amazing people and friends, who are true car enthusiasts and car collectors w/ good refined taste! 🙌
wow Jay. This is an incredible car. Absolutely beautiful
When Jay takes a test drive of the Ferrari 296 GTB. The Ferrari GTB is one of the best cars that Ferrari ever made.
Not particularly a Ferrari fan, but this is rather beautiful!
Buying your FIRST Ferrari, Jay?! Hehehe
As a Ferrari 348TB owner I must admit, the 296 is cool. I like it.
David Lee is a Ferrari Collection Legend
Thank you 🙏
@@ferraricollectordavidlee what Ferrari have u not drove, that would be a dream for you?
Will Jay buy his first Ferrari?
He is actually impressed by the entire package... really a 7 yr all inclusive warranty is incredible.
Jay has a way about him that, pretty much, allows the “guest” to be comfortable in the situation. I find that quite enjoyable. Can’t help but appreciate that seeing David in this episode. Just into it, (7:45), but had to comment.
Jay, always the best to you. Keep moving DaddyO.
I love these Jay and David videos. They are super cool and a bit funny how they work together. Bring them on!
My dad's shop used to work on Jay Leno's cars! There were pictures of Leno all over the office with the cars his shop had worked on.
What the hell?! David has the latest Ferrari?! And Jay drives it?! Has the world gone mad?!! 😂
Thank you both, gentlemen. Always an enjoyable drive when you two get together! Also, Enzo's "rolling in his grave" during this test ride given that he said no Ferrari has six cylinders. I disagree; I've always loved the Dino! And thanks to the crew for the usual great cinematography, lighting, and editing...always fantastic production values! Kudos to all! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Just looking at the 296 GTB it has echoes of the Ferrari Dino 246 of the early 1970's. Love the styling!
We have a 296GTS on order in Blu Corsa! Very excited!
I'd like the blue far better than this yellow. The silver stripes are ghastly as well. Looks like a JL Audio logo.
@@joshuagibson2520 lmao yeah that’s why we didn’t pick that package. Looks like a smiley face 😁 ugh no.
@@nfareviewcheaper and already faster than sf90 .. that 296 gtb is no joke
David always brings the coolest cars.
Gorgeous car! All of reviews talk about how amazing it is around the track and how livable it is day-to-day. It sounds incredible for a V6.
What do you mean "for a V6" ?
It's beautiful. Are you paying attention, Corvette? Anyone else notice a profile resemblance to the Ford GT40?
Was definitely getting GT40 vibes
@@Tj33333 Ok. Fine. In my opinion, it resembles the GT40 in profile. 🙄
The most beautiful Ferrari since the 1960's. Just stunning.
WHAT A BEAUTY ! THANK YOU Jay and David for presenting and reviewing this stallion for us !! Have a great evening !!!
Mr. Ferrari David Lee. Always fun when Jay has him on. What a beautiful ride!
It reminds me of the 308. Sounds great for a V6. Had I not known, I would have said it was a V8.
Same, it’s like a modern version of that car.
They didn't talk about the hybrid system very much how does it work is it just for extra power or can you run it in electric mode
@@garybender6031Just lookup a review of this car for a detailed explanation. To answer your questions, the electric components in the hybrid system does give around 160hp and yes it can be driven on electric only mode.
That’s what I like about your videos Jay you don’t miss the opportunity to gun these exotics.Great to hear their engines sing, and see them charge, from the outside.Good going Jay,even more of the same would be really excellent.
spectacular presentation, the casual banter is natural and non scripted
The only thing I dont like is the silver on the hood. Its ok around the front splitter and the rear, but too much on the hood...
^someone had to say it
keep it solid paint
It’s horrible even on the splitter
The non track very doesn't have the stripes. I don't like it either
Two gentleman's and a fabulous car.
Thanks Jay and David! Really appreciate bringing this out. How does it compare to the MC20 from Maserati?
Everything Jay says now starts with “You know in the old days…..”.
You’re not that old Jay.
This technology thingy is new to us all. 😂😂😂
I was lucky enough to test drive one at the recent Ferrari Owners Day event at Sywell UK. Spent 30 minutes driving it and loved it. It was perfect.
I couldn't tell if David Lee had socks on.🤣
I was watching Cars of Montecarlo, a red Ferrari very similar to this one (possibly a Artura) passed a 11-12 year old boy who briefly glanced at it as it passed, then a Ford Mustang passed immediately after the Ferrari, the same kid stopped, watched it as it passed, then turned around as it passed and watched it until disappeared out of sight, that is a young man of discriminatingly, good taste. Now, I see why Ferrari is following Fords lead with the Ford GT!
I noticed David was wearing a matching yellow shirt!
13:38 Pur Sang is a French expression😂
Always enjoy seeing Mr. Lee! And this car -- wow!! I'm *extremely* impressed with it. When I first heard "V6 hybrid" I thought that it really wasn't going to be all that great. But, whoa! They really did an amazing job with it! That yellow with the silver stripes works well, too - normally I like red on a Ferrari, but this is a very good-looking color combo.
We all have our different tastes. I am not a fan of Rosso Corsa or Rosso Scudario on Ferraris. Done to death. I like metallic colors in blue, silver-blue, burgundy, even some greens on Ferraris. Basic black, white, red, yellow - not my thing on any cars, much less these.
We already had that with 2nd gen NSX.
Always nice when David Lee is on here.
Funny they don’t know the correct pronunciation of Modena, Jay having the Italian lineage and David being such a great Ferrari collector! 🤪🤪
A fantastic video, featuring an amazing Car Gay (Jay Leno) and a very pleasant Guest.
And a fabulous Ferrari-- Enzo must be very happy!
Thank you, Mr. Leno
Jay "in the old days" Leno
„Assanto Forano“Package…😂😂😂
Love when David Lee visits. Nice touch with the matching shirt and jacket.
No shots of the rear at all? come on Jay
Solid video as always
Thank you once again Mr. Leno and Mr. Lee for another excellent Ferrari video and hello from Ontario, Canada.
Tillsonburg
" so different from the old days "
Jay is awesome.
And he and David together is just as good as it gets
Nice to see Jay back in the saddle. Good guy. Take care.🇨🇦
Beautiful car, it reminds me a bit of the 1965 LeMans winning Ferrari 250LM.
Best looking Ferrari for a long time. I prefer it without the stripe though.
It would look cool in the classic Ferrari red. Or even black
@@trfbassman902 I saw one in classic red at a local car show recently and it looked great.
Sounds like a beast ! I'll never see one, never mind own one. But I appreciate it exists. As a last of the line before full EV, I guess these will hold their value over time.
You're looking sharper and lighter. Keep going Jay. I want you to be here making us these fun car shows.
Welcome to another episode of David Lee’s Garage
Love that Hot Wheels vibe. Sweet nostalgia.
Love it when Jay has David on with one of his cars! That new one is gorgeous but I think the silver striping is not attractive. 👍🏻
Thanks David for sharing! Always cool to hear what these sound like
Mr Lee is BACK!
A beautifully shaped car.
They made that 6 sound really nice.
Jay you didn't talk about the hybrid system very much is it just for more horsepower or can you ask a ride in the electric mode
"In the old days Ferrari used to be a pretty conservative company... this has got all the toys in it now."
Yet it doesn't have a carbon tub.
Ruger got way cooler when Bill died. I think it's the same deal with Enzo.
Ferrari never disappoints! Beautiful car.
It's "Giallo Módena" (with the stress on the 'o'). It's a town in Emilia Romagna, the region where Ferrari is from.
Whew! Baby V12 sounds from a six (11:20). So good.
First Ferrari in a long time that actually evokes emotion when you look at it. It’s truly beautiful.
I think it’s one of the ugliest Ferrari’s made. Terrible front and very weird shape.
It makes me mad
No it is not. That car looks disgusting. Who's idea was to put those ridiculously out of place stripes AND cover the whole nose of the car with them? Besides, all features of the car look out of proportion. Headlights too small, vents making no sense with the rest of the lines of the car on the side. It truly looks ridiculous lol man I miss the 360/430 era
Thank you Mr. Leno for another great car review. I absolutely love Ferraris and it’s always great when you have David Lee on there with you as well, he is the equivalent of you with Ferraris.🙏🏽
This is in my view one of the best ever Ferraris - a hybrid with a ton of power, very sleek silhouette, and this one is not red, but Giallo Modena - very nice ! And a mid-engine car, wow !
And it has some fancy details - lovely interior, nice yellow seatbelts, a great sounding engine, and a price that is quite OK as well. And the T-shirt of the owner matches the colour of the seatbelts, yay...
I really love the Roma, it's such a beautiful shape and has nore than enough performance for the road!
Jay, can i just come over to the garage once😭
Well Done Lee, congratulations 🎉 and thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing it with Jay
Love the colour and your Choice.
EnJoY in Good Health 👍🏻
The 296 has 820 hp Combined between the 6 cylinder twin turbo PLUS the electric capacitance motor mounted between the engine and the transmission Ferrari's are offered with 7 years of MAINTENANCE included, but the WARRANTY is just 3 years. David Lee wouldn't know since he probably doesn't deal with the service and maintenance himself..
For those owners who want to keep their cars longer than 3 years, they can get the warranty extended an additional 2 years for a nominal fee.
That is a beautiful automobile
I agree that this likely is Ferrari’s best current car. Jay goes on about how compact it is. Still, it looks very-very wide! Maybe it’s an optical illusion, but wouldn’t such a wide car negatively effect maneuverability? 🤷♂️
Modern compact cars aren´t that compact.
It’s not wide.
@@MrJohndoe996 so what is it’s width?
Beatiful Ferrari!!
What a nice exhaust sound despite a v6 and turbos !
Thanks again for your kindness with sharing your passion with us
My favorite car show!
Same here.
Agreed 💯!
Jay is the best.
That’s the best looking Ferrari I think they’ve made in years.
The paint accents on the front end look like one of those cheap vinyl bumper covers
Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Good to see they are finally catching up with Fiero! ☺
Dumbest comment in the thread. Nice job.
