Yes, for all his creativity", Jay does reuse a lot of standard "stock phrases" in his videos. It can be "charming" when viewed a couple times a week. Hearing the same or similar things repeated in *50 videos* can also become grating or annoying. I started my journey into Jay Leno's car videos over 6 years ago, with a smaller "binge watch" of about 30 videos over two weeks - I can understand what you experienced, a bit. It is worth it for me just for the Duesenberg, Packard, (sometimes Ferrari or Lamborghini coverage), and pre and post WWI cars... but that is my jam.
Not only, he doesn't fake knowing what he doesn't. It doesn't faze him, he comes across as someone who is themselves for the most part, genuine. Instead of some guys who try too hard, and you hear from the way they deliver that it was something they studied specifically to be able to cite. He had a bullet point list of topics, but they were all optional, and none had memorized speeches attached to them. At least, that's how it seems to me.
I don't know anything about Reuss, but as long as GM is being run by MBA clowns like Mary Barra, the company is doomed. He could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, producing an outstanding vehicle like the ZR1, but at the end of the day the entire Corvette line is a vanity project. GM (and every other large car maker) will live or die based on how well its mass produced vehicles do, and on whether or not it can successfully make the transition to EVs over the next 3-7 years. I predict that GM will be bankrupt within 6-10 years, and will be relegated to selling GM badged cars made by others. No doubt Barra & Reuss will get gigantic golden parachutes as they walk out the doors and turn off the lights.
I can listen to Jay and any of his guests all day and not lose interest. I met Jay countless times around the Burbank airport where I worked at, and he was one of the most approachable and humble people I ever interacted with.

Though I am a big fan of JLG, I almost never watch these introduction vids as I consider them simply free ads for whoever's introducing a new model and of course the marketingspeak rules everything. But I've watched the Reuss family since they came into positions of being able to make things happen, and could not have more respect. Other than the salaries, they are just like us. They know every piece of a car, how it works, what it does, and how to maximize it. They are true performance enthusiasts and it shows in what they produce. I bought a Grand National in 1987 and considering the time it was made and its competition, it was simply stunning. The enthusiasm and insistence on excellence made me have hope once again. In fact, I sold a legendary 70s musclecar in order to buy it. It was faster, more comfortable, got better mileage, and had A//C. So when Lloyd's son is talking about his newest project, I listen.
I’ve owned 8 Corvettes every generation except a C1. Three ZO6’s, 2 Z51’s and 3 base stingrays. They are simply the most performance for the money now.
True. I'm a AMG guy and have been since birth. My father, his father, etc. All have roots with Mercedes. I drive a 2021 AMG. My pops has the 23 C8 3LT. I've sold C8's, not the 3LT but still, for around 60-70k otd. Getting a flat planed v8 car in general for under 100k is a steal. Not to mention the power, it's so stupid that we AMG, M, RS owners just leave yall to your own category with the vipers and McLarens🤣🤣 Only complaint is the variations in their interior build quality. Less than 10k miles on my pops and he had the leather dash and door trim peeling up. Very odd but the Chevrolet dealership fixed it no problem 👍
@@bendingwarrior1 I’ve put 10K miles on my C8 Z51 HTC, I’ve drag raced it and open road raced it and did an all out mile. The car runs awesome took 2nd place in the road race in my class and I did 152 MPH in the mile. Car did a 12 second flat 1/4 mile. I drove it to Nevada from Arizona to race and drove home. Got 30 plus miles to the gallon also. The only problem I’ve had is one cable for the hard top convertible pulled out so that’s an easy fix. The cars and an awsome driving experience.
I really liked it when Jay called him and other American auto manufacturers out for installing fake vents when it doesn’t cost much more if any to install working vents. You could tell the GM guy was actively trying to avoid and change that conversation.
Today I drove through our humble little downtown single block of fancy restaurants, a shortcut I take sometimes. Multi-colored umbrellas suspended overhead. The light happened to be perfect and I found myself behind a late model ZR1 the color of baby blue eyes. People at the outdoor tables turning to watch this go by. A magical moment.
Even at 200k it’s still the Best Bang For Your Buck!! Just drive down the street to the dealership and get it serviced and that’s all. Simplicity and Basically the Same V8 that Chevy has produced since the 50’s. Of course the dealership will have to invest in some of the Techs going back to school for the ZR1 but I would jump at the opportunity to say that I’m a ZR1 Tech. Of course I love all of the Big Three and the products specifically to each company. I’ve also had the opportunity to see Zora’s White Corvette in Tarpon Springs when the Car Museum was open years ago. Great Video Thank You 🙏
This engine is a far cry from the basic V8 from the 50s. About the only thing in common with their original V8 is it has 8 cylinders and it runs on pump gas!
Jay--I love your channel, right from the beginning, but this video, bravo having Mark Reuss on. What a proper car guy, PLUS, wearing proper driving shoes, and rocking that badass Omega Speedmaster 125! Knocked out of the park. Cheers--John
Once the Series 3 came around to fix the hydrolock problem with them due to the intake leaking coolant or oil, or fire problem from the oil, other than that yeah better engine than any ohc 3.6. the LS came about because of Lessons with the BOPs and SBC/BBC over the years.
@shadowopsairman1583 ah the dreaded series 2 GM 3800 with the plastic intake manifold. Know it well. The EGR ports into the plastic and over time thermal stresses cause the plastic to crack thus introducing coolant into the intake stream and destroying the engine. Great idea plastic intake manifolds.
Can one update a Series II 3800 with the metal intake from a Series III? It appears that much of the electronics and monitors are different. There are so many 3800 III Pontiac Grand Prix s in the wrecking yards. I have a 2005 Le Sabre Custom, 2003 Bonneville SLE and a 2001 Grand Prix GT Coupe.
We’ve had many Corvettes over the years, C6 Convertibles(3), C6 Z06, C7 (Grand Sport and a Z06) and now 2 C8s(Z51 coupe and a HTC). Such fun cars and so much bang for the buck. I also am glad that Mark is also a car guy instead of just a bean counter. Happy retirement Tadge, thank you for so many fun cars over the years.

The problem with keeping Corvette as a Chevrolet is the Chevrolet dealer service experience. So many dealers don’t even know what they’re doing with a Stingray. I don’t have much confidence with their ability to handle a Z06 or ZR1. GM needs to do better and demand better from its dealers. Sadly, even the Cadillac dealer experience is pretty hit and miss in my experience.
Very informative. Need to know more about "Tag" who just retired. Loved comments about Power-glide band adjustments. Jay and Mark's dialogue is great like a couple of old friends walking around one of their cars at a "Show and Shine". While my Corvette is great this thing is in another universe.
Jay Leno "Glad you're able to keep it affordable". Car & Driver "The price of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is expected to start around $180,000 and go up to $205,000 depending on the trim and options." Maybe that's chump change to Mr. Leno but not to me!
It’s definitely not affordable by average standards. But when you consider it’s a 1000hp car- it’s a darn good deal. 20 years ago you had to spend over $1M to get that.
That is funny. Being honest though, that’s a good price for the performance. Theres no other sports car in the world for that price with that level of performance. Most car, not including the the Demon 170, the these power and performance number cost $1 million or more. Think about t5he Bugatti.
I've loved this episode a ton always liked corvettes. Thank you hay for still making content frequently I've been watched since I was 11 or 12 and I'm now almost 25 thank you so much
This engine is likely the peak of internal combustion technology. No other manufacturer would invest this much in “old tech”. Way to go GM. Didn’t let the ROI scare you away!
Clarkson said that about the Veyron, I think it'll get more powerful especially with Ai - technologies. Technology always progresses for good (and bad.)
Are you kidding? The base of that engine is a copy of the 458 engine. You really think this surpasses what is in the SF90, or the current V12 in the 12 Cili? Yeah, good luck with that.
@@AB-80X Are you talking to me? I don't understand your response- my point is everything evolves. To say we will never see a car break 1000bhp in a Corvette/Super- Sports car is speculation that isn't nessrily true barriers are always broken in engineering.

Thank god there are people like Jay Leno who care enough to save these vehicles for posterity.
That's great re: the Tadge easter eggs. He certainly deserves the recognition.
"It was too quiet... we can't have that!!!" LOVE THAT! :)
Always respect when c suits actually know what they’re talking about and are so candid.
His interpersonal & communication skills are exceptional. Which is what you expect from a guy in his position
I live in a medium size town in Thailand 🇹🇭 and we do have a Red C8 rolling around almost on a daily basis… it’s awesome! 👏 🎉
I'd take the '67..........all day long.
Sentimental value for sure… But I own both, and there is no comparison. My C8 is a 2024.
You can have that; I'll take the new one.
My brother has a 72 Sting Ray and a 2023 Z06. I would take the Z06 any day!
@@patrickdunn8918 Zo6 or Stingray? Not that it really matters as they're both monsters on wheels.
@@AC_Bikes_400 L3 Stingray… and believe me it’s a beast. I can’t imagine double the horsepower, but I’m going to look at them lol
So glad Tag is getting his due. Call it the Tag. Carry on the legacy.
Jay leno is living the best life, hope hes around for a long time
I’ve owned 8 Corvettes every generation except a C1.
The Corvette with all modern technological advancements make it the World’s Supercar. Thanks Jay. 😎👍😎
Jay looks in great shape, Always a fabulous Car-Guy.
Thank you for this great video.
10:55 I do enjoy the “anticipation” of Jay’s Monday upload 👍
Jay is an awesome guy. I've met him. Totally cool.
Always great to see a car that if you could find one someone would sell to you it would coast double the MSRP. Thanks GM

@@robertfuller5081 Don't forget the 4.4" bore spacing
1958 - corvette is the Boss....58 thru 62 beautiful n bossy.....63 great rear window design...
my grandpa had one of those german made "deenda dees" 4 seaters ,very similar to the 58
The C8 is juvenile. I thought it would grow on me but nah.
@@truantraythe performance grew up now it competes with Euro supercars for a lot less money.
My earliest Vette was a ‘58, gotta love all that chrome. My last one was a 2014. The only one I want back is my ‘66 convertible.
Nice watch Jay much more personal/interesting than an apple watch.
I prefer the 60’s Corvette much more than the new version. The curves are much more graceful and beautiful.
I understand that the technology in the new one is amazing but it looks like an insect. The old one is the work of art.
Jay--I love your channel, right from the beginning, but this video, bravo having Mark Reuss on. What a proper car guy, PLUS, wearing proper driving shoes, and rocking that badass Omega Speedmaster 125! Knocked out of the park. Cheers--John
I love hearing him talk about the 3800 being bulletproof! Bring it back!
@jeffshadow2407 I believe you can. The company zzp has parts and info on that stuff.
What a car, this is amazing
So enjoyable to watch two car guys, that KNOW THEIR STUFF! Been around the block a time or two. Love it
Great guest, always appreciate it when the guest knows his stuff.
Nice to see Jay is back to shaking peoples hands
Let's cut to the chase Jay . This is good as it gets . This has joined an exclusive club . A turning point indeed ..........thankyou both .
I will always chose the 427 vs the ZR1
Thanks Jay❤️ I normally just say thank you but today I must add more. This is the most interesting, informative and entertaining car show....Period. I'm from Ireland but I've always loved American muscle. That 67 vette is to die for. Once again thank you for the amazing content.
Jay looking and sounding healthy. Much love from europe. Fav vettes are c6 and c7
I admire you Jay and love your shows l pray for your strength with your wife may you keep doing these car shows l love them Good luck and the Lord is on your side❤
GM President seems like he is enjoying the talk to share about the new ZR1 humble straight up
Wow! That new Corvette has me slobbering 🤤 all over my screen! ❤❤❤
Very informative. Need to know more about "Tag" who just retired. Loved comments about Power-glide band adjustments. Jay and Mark's dialogue is great like a couple of old friends walking around one of their cars at a "Show and Shine". While my Corvette is great this thing is in another universe.
Would love to see the classic vettes retroed in modern models.
I'd vote a hard no on that. Can't improve the old stuff..........ever.
@@UberLummox Restomods are. But that's a Frankenstein type thing.
@@UberLummox A lot of people would disagree on that. Modern feel to a retro design. Handling and HP could both be dramatically increased.
@@The1stDukeDroklar I know. That's what makes me not a lotta people, I guess.
This car looks AMAZING in purple. May it set all kinds of records including sales.
That’s insanely cheap for what this is….
@@cmfall1986 You have to spend $1M to get that now even.
Not to mention how bad Americans are with money
@@Future-Classic-Cars
My response was to you stating the following:
"This engine is likely the peak of internal combustion technology. No other manufacturer would invest this much in “old tech”"
This is simply not true. There are engines out there more advanced that this. GM is not the front runner of DOHC engine development.

The Z is the latest of 6 Corvettes that I have owned since 1973 (18 yrs. old & HS grad) and in order of purchase- 1st 1970 LT-1, 2nd 1973 350 ci. coupe, 3rd 1987 Z51 coupe, 4th 1995 Z51 coupe and the afore mentioned 2000 Z51 coupe and the 2003 Z06.
