    I hope you will continue to show us your traditional cooking. It’s better than watching all those world famous chefs . Also your traditional attire and lifestyle are so wholesome , healthy and peaceful. It’s very soothing watching your videos . And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.

You are great and so are your children. Love y'all. Have a huge garden next year so I can live vicariously through you or maybe learn more. God bless. Be safe and Love well.

    Wow this is so exciting! It is my dream to be self sustaining one day at least for legumes. We have rented a tiny garden in the city and it produces so much and gives us so much joy! Plus being in France, i am getting to try a whole new bunch of vegetables I never knew even existed! Going to follow your progress whole heatedly. Your videos are awesome so real. Not an ounce of pretense or fakeness. I really appreciate that! Cheers guys!

    I just want to let you know that I have been browsing garden videos today and I've absolutely fallen in love with yours! Your homesteading and farming is excellent. Love to see the chemistry of your family and how much fun you guys are having. One of the last channels I was one, the lady was growing things for the "look" of a kitchen garden. "Oops, let the radish go so long. Don't really like radishes..." *face palm* why are you growing radishes lady?!
    Anyways, glad to see you growing, canning, and eating everything. You're doing an excellent job and you know better than to waste your energy on something that you aren't going to enjoy eating.

    You may know this already but when the corn first starts forming put a couple drops of mineral oil right inside the tip behind the silks and it will help keep the worms out.

    Just a few thoughts while I was watching... have you tried neem oil for the corn and "collars" for the vine boring critters? They both help us.
    If you don't know already, sweet potato leaves are a good salad or cooking green ... use like spinach.
    I laughed with your old not-intended-to-be-portable chicken tractor ...my boys made one out of wood and metal about 10 years ago. That thing is a BEAST to move [takes 4 grown men to move, or 2 to pivot]. It's served us very well though!!!! Lots of chickens, turkeys, and even goats and ducks :)
    And then I had to laugh at your melon dilemma ... waiting for it to turn the expected color. The same happened to us this year with a new variety we tried [charentais] ... we were way off with the first few, but then perfect on the rest.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Nasturtiums help deter squash bugs. Plant some around your squash and it will help. Also don't plant all your squash in the same area so they don't attack all of it at the same time.

    Wow! I'm so thankful that this channel exists and am blown away by your hard work and the atmosphere you've created for your kids. I'm curious about the chickens, do you let them run around in your garden and eat the bugs? And if so, would they eat the squash bugs?

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are fenced around the perimeter of the garden. They occasionally eat squash bugs if they are small enough.

    The dominos at the end ha ha ha, that was great! My parents were huge on gardening growing up so this reminds me of those days, but it definitely looks like your kids are having more fun then I did. Maybe just good editing to show the fun stuff, or maybe just parents raising good energetic kids. :) How do you keep them entertained through the more mundane gardening tasks like weeding and tilling?

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Roselyn, thank you for your kind words. We always allow the opportunity for our kids to help in the garden, but try not to force it. We want them to choose to enjoy it as we do. Recently, we've enjoyed letting them pick the varieties of vegetables they would like to try, and this ends up giving them a sense of ownership over these plants, and miraculously, us parents get to take a back seat for a bit and watch Farmer Jr. at work :)

    This is so cool! I grew up with a very large garden until I was 12 and we moved. I'm wondering what kind of effect are you seeing on your children living out in the country and doing all this gardening? Where did you live before this and what kind of environment was that like?

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Our first video explains some of our reasons for moving to the country. Now since being out here, we can't imagine going back to the "city". Prior to this move, we lived on 2/3 acre, a ten minute drive to a large metropolis(75k population). Too large for us even then. Unexplainable how good it has been for our kids, our family ,and our life.

      We do much more freezing of corn than canning, typically, cause we prefer it that way. Did a batch of canned corn because my husband likes it :)
