that is a hug vegetable garden. It looks like it takes great effort and you are very slim because you grow your own veg and eat organic and real food. very admirable indeed

this is phenomenal and i can't tell you how much your successes in the garden motivate me amongst issues like squash bugs and insane amounts of pill bugs (and effects of pregnancy utterly killing my desire to be outside for any reason)

also, the rec for the lemon squash is right up my ally. we have vine borer issues in texas, which makes squash difficult for us but a more prolific plant that grows smaller squash more quickly might counteract those issues nicely. i'll try it out next year.

Yes! That's the whole plan - animals help enrich the soil and make it better than when they started. It's a miraculous, yet very simple cycle.

How much do you think you’ve spent on garden material over the years? The stuff to flatten your cover crops, the stakes, etc? Also can you do a video of how you save seeds? I love your content. I am moving to North Georgia in the next few years and haven’t ever really gardened. I would love to grow my own food.

I also watch Simple Living Alaska, and just started following your journey. Love your farm, and your love of gardening. I remember Aerial up in Alaska saying that she does not let the chickens do too much tractoring, because they will eat too much of the beneficial stuff in her soil. I wondered if that might help your beetle issue.

Love how the garden has grown since the early days! Just a side note, this year in my garden I purchased a big bag of wildflower seeds and I sprinkled them all over everything from tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, peppers, radishes, beans of all types and this was the first year (knock on wood) we did this and our harvest was great, we noticed that the wildflowers had all types of insects on them and they, in turn, ate the bad bugs and our harvest of squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and beans was the largest we have ever had, no beetles. Not sure if the was just an odd planting year, but we plan on planting wildflowers again with our crops next year. We might even try the corn you are growing!

I'm growing Long Island cheese and Cinderella pumpkins next year. Any advice you could share would be appreciated. I love your videos. I would love to have a garden as large as yours, but I wouldn't have room for my house...lol. I work 10 hrs days and as soon as I get home I head out to the garden for 2 to 3 hours. At the end of 2020 I did containers of plants. It was a failure. I still mourned not having what I tried to grow. So in the fall of 2020 my Dad and I built raised garden beds. 2021 was a great success. Needless to say I'm addicted to gardening.

I think some of the reason your seeing new and more pests in this garden rather than your other gardens is due to this being new land. Meaning it appears to not have been gardened prior or in some time. In a year or two, given the way you approach pests, I believe you will see the pressure lighten greatly.

I would love to know the process of where you find your stuff to garden with and where you look for your information for gardening I would also love to have known the process of your house building. That would have been cool. It would be also cool a q&a cuz you guys are the cutest couple ever of to know what you did before this and how you homeschool. Also what about getting some tanks that collect water and put them in your your outer edge of your property where the trees are to help shade it more and having them higher up so that when you use the hose at your garden it would have pressure. Now you would have to hide the hose underneath the ground. That was coming from the tank. I'm not sure if you guys even thought about that or what but just some food for thought

Yes, I feel that sometimes too. My kids aren't as interested in gardening as I am, but they help and have certain things they enjoy doing in the garden. What they do love is playing with chickens and they hang out right by the garden and will sometimes play with them for hours while I'm gardening so we are able to talk but also do what we each enjoy. I also wake up about three hours before my kids do to get the more serious work done. I'm not perfect at this by any means and constantly striving to do better too.

No, I'm not worried about it. Since they free range within the garden walls they are healthy. It's when chickens are in unhealthy conditions like 50,000 to a chicken house in an industrial setting that you need to worry about the bacteria in chicken manure.

I dehydrate lots and use them in soups through winter. The rest get eaten fresh!

Would diatomaceous earth work for cucumber beetles?

I tried diatomaceous earth on the plants early on, it didn't seem to make much difference unfortunately!

I've been hand weeding, using a stirrup hoe, and a scuffle hoe. I love using mulch in walkways. I also just got some new weeding tools to try for the remainder of the year. Still in the testing phase so not ready to recommend anything yet. I'll report back on here though once I have enough time to try them.

@@TheSeasonalHomestead I put down a weed guard like you would in landscaping in between the rows, this has been a game changer for me. I only have to maintain the weeds around my vegetable plants.

Massive garden. Do you heat with firewood? We're starting out our channel so please check it out!

Thank you, and yes, we've heated our homes with firewood for the past 9 years(this is Cam). This new house we're in we use an outdoor wood boiler, and an indoor wood stove for the shoulder seasons. Plenty of wood chopping going on down here... and just subscribed to your channel. Excited to see you grow!

@@TheSeasonalHomestead Thanks Cam! I've never used a wood boiler but have been watching videos.
