How a mother and daughter survived the pain of rape and genocide

  • Angel's mother tried to kill her twice. Nearly 23 years since Rwanda's genocide, they are still dealing with the repercussions of war and rape. The Washington Post withheld their last names because of the remaining stigma around the issue. Read the story: wapo.st/2s0C6rC

      @@paulnjeta2755 We are all capable of facing abuse and trauma no matter where in the world we live, but I think it's different when you're born into a country that has faced a recent genocide. Genocide changes the face of a nation and all the remaining survivors within it. Often they find themselves residing in close proximity to the perpetrators, and judged by the outside world for factors that are relatively unknown. People here in the west took in survivors from Rwanda, but we couldn't fathom their pain. We were privileged to not feel the hurt or the pain caused by being targeted and slated for death based on ethnic and social factors. The closest person from the west who could ever possibly fathom the pain of the Rwanda Genocide would be Romeo Dallaire, whose life has never been the same since he was sent over there on a peacekeeping mission. Most of us would have no idea.

    I can't even imagine the pain the mother went through. She's still going to feel certain feelings she's unsure about for her daughter. But what a beautiful girl she has, loving and very matured. I wish them both peace in whatever form God can grant it to them. Sad situation for all.

      I know man. I visited Rwanda a few years ago and I can't even imagine that some of the beautiful people i saw were so connected to such acts of the worst of humanity. I wanna become financially free and help this country. Donate hand held tractors, a cow per single mother family, off shore jobs. May God have mercy on us....it's April and I have been pouring over Rwanda genocide videos. If AA pulled out the atrocities of slavery, Rwandese can pull through too. People never again. Today there's near acts of genocide in places like Yemen, Syria. Humanity wake up.

    • @JarethTheGoblinKingForever
      @JarethTheGoblinKingForever ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People criticize Kagame for his authoritarian attitude towards Rwanda, but he really has made positive differences. He witnessed the genocide himself and is terrified that something similar could happen again if he doesn't curb denialist propaganda and misinformation. Hopefully in the coming decades we will see him loosen his grip on social behaviour rules, but for now his main goal is keeping Rwanda safe, and so far he's succeeding.

    The key word is God. We all need Jesus. Look up our lady of Kibeho. This was all predicted 10yrs before it happened!

    My question is for You Aka Washington post, why are you not telling us the truth of what Paul Kagame did in the genocide, but you are torturing these victims, selling their stories, making millions while you interview them for nothing??. To interview them, you pay the Rwandan government, and the leader of Rwanda, is the main source of genocide. Instead of publishing the truth, the true story of Rwanda genocide, you are giving us the end of the story.

    The whole story is true except the HIV stuff. The woman and the daughter are healthy.
