The solo sees John hitting the strings fairly hard, getting a gnarly sound with the low G notes, muted A string, and middle notes of a G chord for the first section (1:28). There is a fair amount of amplifier distortion for the solo creating a rough, dirty rock and roll sound. My ears hear a bend at 1:30 followed by a fretted Db note. At 1:35 John overbends the note out of tune before falling back down. The fast G7 smacks at 1:39 are NOT slid into (except for the first one). This can be seen clearly in live performances and heard on the record. At 1:42 he misses one of the smacks, ending on an upstroke before sliding down with two notes (the ones on the E and G strings) into the final section of the solo. I believe he plays a partial G chord on the open strings before ending on the fretted G chord at 1:49. John then quickly switches back to the neck pickup for the remainder of the song, playing things in a standard way before ending on a G major chord 2:25.
It's extremely fascinating how the chords weave together. They almost sound like they shouldn't work, but everything combines together to make a wild rockin' tune.

Very nice job. I enjoyed recording this song too. I only used a Strat and was able to get the sound I wanted. I did in it E, not the original Key of G. when I got older, my vocal range dropped.

Did you have to do any kind of setup on your Rickenbacker 12? I've had mine for a year and a half and I think the nut might need replacing because the strings sit a bit high towards the head. Great playing as always!! Cheers

I have found the 360/12C63 to hold it's tuning quite well! The 325s are another story though...
