Was the first thing I added to my XTR before I even filled it up the first time. Make sure you really crank those screws down. It shouldn’t need any caulk to seal but doesn’t hurt to have it. Get yourself some pool socks for the skimmer. Learned the hard way on mine. That flow will pull in so much fine particles into the sand filter you will be backwashing more than ever without the socks. I even went as far as switching my sand to a more course filter sand from the local pool supply store. Only other thing I did different was completely getting rid of that intex shutoff valve and got a pvc ball valve from Home Depot. Got the adapter to screw it right into the Hayward and used the same Game adapter to screw on the intex flexible hose. It’s kept my water flawless all season so far. Great upgrade!
This is the best video I've seen for this skimmer. My pool is much smaller and and don't want anything i side taking up space. Ill probably do it beginning of next season.
Thank you. When you do install it, make sure you don't split your gasket in two pieces we did that and found out it was wrong. Even though we didn't have any leaks, we found out we made a small mistake. We love ours and occasionally we will use a skimmer sock and get even more good dirt in the basket.
Reason you had that leak at the bottom is because the gasket is suppose to go on the inside of the pool not the outside. But either way looks like it's working amazing. One thing I am on the fence about is the water level. Using one of these skimmers pretty much lowers the water level a little.
Actually, we know we installed it incorrectly. It's actually supposed to split down the sides and go 1/2 in and 1/2 out but stay as one piece whereas we split it in half. Lesson learned, but we aren't having any leaks! The pool level does not concern us as with a 52" pool we are o.k. with losing A few inches for the skimmer, it really doesn't make a huge difference to us. We are very happy with it.
@@MoverandShakerdon't worry cause I actually installed the butterfly gasket like u said and still had that same small leak. Used Flex Seal first and then a bead of silicone for extra reinforcement. Hopeing it works. Waiting for it to dry. I think because these pools arents solid siding its harder to get perfect seal cause they bend and give. But like u said I can deal with a drip but hoping what I said fixes it totally. Thanks for the video by the way.
Just finished setting up our internet pool with the wide mouth Hayward skimmer. Your info was spot on. Like you said installing and cutting out the skimmer opening was kind of scary. We did exactly as you said and now everything is a o k. I am glad there are good people like you guys in the world !!!!!! 😊
I’m about to put mine on tomorrow, however, I am putting Lexel sealant on first, to hold the standard butterfly gasket to the faceplate, and let it cure and even up with the holes perfectly.
I had a different skimmer it was best waves that hung over the side of the pool. Work good but when kids get moving around it would come out of the water then have shutdown pump fix it just a pain neck. yesterday I received my Hayward skimmer . I did it all by myself no leaks thumbs to me happy mom .😊
@@MoverandShaker No I didn't sell my other one. I gave to my neighbor She's a single mom and I know she couldn't afford to get one. she was impressed when she hooked it all up to her pool how all the bugs were gone. 👍😊
One step you missed..and so did we after watching several videos is you will need to purchase plugs for one of the two original intake valves. One was attached to skimmer. The other sife off the splitter valve never really did much in terms of intake in the first place off the pool a few feet away. If you try to run it off the original splitter valve, the suction will be weak. Totally agree use larger tubing directly into lower part of the pump with air valve.
Can you tell me what you used to plug them? I've just replaced with a Hayward and not sure exactly what to ask for when I go to the pool store. Thanks!!!
You shouldn't have cut your butterfly gasket. I know another of ppl do on their videos but when I did mine I left it alone. Mounted skimmer, cut hole out clean then removed to install gasket correctly. No leaks or issues. Sold that pool and bought a bigger one this year and going to install the wide mouth one the same way. I also cut out the original inlet and upgraded them to 1.5" because I have 2 pumps and use one for a sprinkler.
Sounds cool. Well we didn't mean to cut it. It was an accident ( long story) but so far absolutely no leaks and I guess if there were we could always get a new gasket installed. Thanks for the suggestions.
I've had three Intex pools and have put an in wall skimmer in each!! NO TYPE OF ADHESIVE IS REQUIRED ON EITHER OUTSIDE/INSIDE THE POOL WALL!! That's actually what the gaskets are for. If you install it correctly, per the instructions, you will not have any wall leaks - if "you install the skimmer correctly"!!
For our pool wall, there is no adhesive on the inside.. Clear silcone On the outside is actually extra protection For the long term. We always go to extra mile And look ahead as far as prepping anything. Wow three Intex pools you must be an expert by now. Do you have a pool channel? We're only on our fourth year of this pool. We hope someone will get it least three or four more seasons as we Plan to move Thanks for watching.
That's AWESOME. We just had to take out skimmer out of our pool because it was standing up on the water. I about flipped out. Lol Maybe we well try one of those. Thank you so much.
When it rains or if you backwash you have to adjust the bracket for the skimmer to stay level with the surface. If you do switch make sure you resell you old one because I still sold my used one for $30
Thank you so much for all your pool videos. They're awesome in the way you explain in detail how you added a skimmer. Just put up our 3rd 26x52" XTR. Because of your video we're convinced to do away with the old style skimmer. We have the Hayward skimmer, sand filter and chlorinator. However, I may have missed how you permanently plugged the holes for the two inlets. Please explain.
So the strainer hole plugs or commonly known as the black hats are inside the two holes on the inside of the pool with the strainer basket covers on top. These keep the water from coming out of your pool. On the outside, we really didn't need to do this but we decided to use clear silicone inside the tubes and for aesthetic purposes we just put another set of black caps on there so it wouldn't look odd with the holes. Here is a link for the black caps amzn.to/3OkoOCr
@@MoverandShaker I’m contemplating doing this next season spring 2025 to our INTEX 16x48 xtr which is now 4 1/2 years old. We are still using the original sand filter (26 lbs of sand or half bag if you will) and original 2100 gph filter. Did you upgrade your filter and pump ? Can I just upgrade the filter? Thoughts, advice, tips all welcomed!! Also would you mind sharing the price to upgrade ? Also would like to go with that skimmer idea as well for vacuuming to get away from the smaller rechargeable volt vacuum that attaches to skimmer pole. Thanks for any help!!
On the inside of the pool, two strainer baskets that came with the pool package And two of these. amzn.to/3ViyhfK. Is all you need. You don't have to have the strainer baskets but it is a good cover If you think you may have someone that wants to pull on them, or if you just want them to look nicer by having a cover over them. They stay put and have been working for a long, long time
Thank you so much for the courage to do this, I needed that because I wasn't sure about this skimmer until I watched your video. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Hi Howard, It's a butterfly gasket it straddles the liner on both sides we just accidentally cut it in half to make two pieces and technically it comes together for most of the seams. We are not having any issues with it.
Hows it holding up? Doing mine tonight! The gasket though, its supposed to stay intact. It goes over the edges of the hold then gets sandwiched between the inner and outter pieces. Seen many done this way and works fine. Im going to leave mine as it came lol I know what you mean by scared! Im scared and Ive done something similar before... I actually cut larger holes for the 2" hose. Then used the other remaining small hose hooked up to the original paper pump that runs an intex light up fountain. Worked great and gave addition cleaning when needed. Ive been doing intext for 10 years. Just got a new one this year. I remember when these larger ones just had 2 2inch holes. One in and one out. I think they made it 2 small holes for safety reasons... so kids didnt get sucked and stuck by the one hole. If that were to happen, must be a hell of a pump! haha Good job!
Honestly once the face plate is screwed on...the cutting doesn't seem so bad because you have a traced out template all ready to slice! Lol. Good luck!
At 2:55 I was thinking, "Man, shut that woman up!" (Lol I'm seriously just kidding, it's just because you seemed to cut her off nearly mid-sentence). Also, I just watched a video where they recommended placing the skimmer on the end where the wind blows everything to. Then using a new vacuum hose run it to the pump, that way it catches EVERYTHING!
I'm glad the Intex strainer worked for you, but it was crap for me. We've had a pool for 5 years and I've been scared to death to cut. But this and other videos have made me comfortable about it. It's gonna happen this weekend!
Awesome news!! We'll we found that we had cut our gasket completely in half as opposed to it being a butterfly gasket, but it didn't matter we caulked it...tightened it and everything worked Also, when we took off our cover Our skimmer was yellow... And we were not happy about it But as soon as we got the chlorinator working again, oddly enough It turned back to its normal white color
@@MoverandShaker Good to know, thank you! I haven't bothered to even put the Intex up this year. I'm so looking forward to getting the Hayward in place. I am definitely going to cut them and use some silicone sealant (I've seen that too). As an engineer I see the concept of the butterfly seal, but in practice there are too many variables. Not the least of which is user experience and attention to detail. Again, solid instruction!
You used a 2 piece gasket (inner/outer). What about a single, butterfly gasket? How can you keep the gasket in place and the bracket, and not push the screws into the pool when the skimmer is pushed onto the gasket?
I'm not quite sure what you're talking about, but I can tell you that we accidentally split the gasket when we first got it and we didn't need to do that. It was a butterfly gasket. Everything worked out though it works fine.
Do you have a link for the piece you used to connect the 2” hose to the pre filter basket? Great video, thank you. I am putting up the same pool for the first time and want to start off by adding the skimmer.
Mover and Shaker I’m really thinking about going this route for next spring 2025 as we just lowered the water below our return for our INTEX 16x48 ultra frame for the winter and covered it yesterday. I have some questions as far as the filter and pump. Did you replace both sand filter and pump ? We’re still using the smaller INTEX 26 lb sand tank and 2100 gph pump that came with pool in 2020. But as you mentioned the flow is much better especially going from 1.25 intake to 2 inch but now is your return at the pump 2 inch too ?is the pump hardwired or do you plug it into outlet? How much sand does the filter take? In your other video I like how you doubled up the top hats to seal off the original intakes. I also want to vacuum through the skimmer as you. Your set up looks nice and clean and more efficient with the upgrade. We too have tried the INTEX hanging skimmer basket but just doesn’t get the flow with that 1.25 single opening. Can you provide the amount the pump, filter&skimmer upgrade cost? Again always love your tips ideas and suggestions!!
We did not use the eyeball jet that came with the skimmer because we already had the original one on there that came with the pool. However, they are very easy to install, the simply screw on to the inlet which is on the far left side of the pool.
I’ve tried vacuuming with mine but can’t seem to keep the air out of the pump. Maybe the pump isn’t strong enough to hold my vacuum plate in the skimmer? Any tips on this would be welcome. Before anyone asks, yes, I ensure all air is out of my hose/vacuum head prior to vacuuming. TIA
Please make sure you are holding the vacuum connection down as you turn the pump on. Yeah, that's the only thing I could think of. Our pump is a sixteen inch three thousand gallon.
I bought everything in your link to make this happen. But I can’t figure out what you’re holding in your hand at the very beginning of your video? The connector piece. Was I supposed to buy that separate? I didn’t see it in your links if things I needed.
It's a split nose plunger valve which is part of several types of Intex Valves available and it's not required it's just how we set it up. There are many ways you can run your hoses depending on what types of valves and hose set up you have. It comes with the pool, but you can purchase it online and you would also need 2 hose clamps. Intex part 11872 amzn.to/3NenWyV
What did you use to plug the 2 intake ports that are no longer used? I know they come with the little black plugs but I'm worried about kids pulling them off from the inside. Thanks for the video!
We have the same original strainer hole baskets that get screwed on to those 2 holes those came with the pool so refer to your pool manual if you don't know what I'm talking about but you should have them. And yes the black Plugs are still in the holes
Without a doubt. You no longer have to remove the skimmer hose to vacuum, and it works even better, especially with a skimmer sock. We would never go back. We love it!
I just purchased Hayward skimmer. I will be installing it in the spring. I have one question for you. I pretty much have everything that you have. Do you have any info on installing a pool heater with the salt water chlorinator. Love your videos they are very helpful. Thank you.
It already has the existing strainer hole plugs and the strainer baskets on the holes and for extra protection you could either a) put two strainer hole plugs on the outside and b) fill in the hole from the outside with silicone.
What have you done to keep frames and legs from getting rusted by saltwater? I'm about to put up the same Intex pool and it will be saltwater like yours. Thanks bud
It's fairly simple every time we get out of the pool we wash it down inside and out on the edges the Poles and is everywhere or water would splash Flash and that's the best you can do to be proactive.
I put one one my pool today but i didn't cut the seal in half like you. I think it's the better option because you get no leaks but it's a lot scarier because you have to cut without a border to guide you.
you could build a wooden casing around it or place something made of heavy-duty gauge wire to keep the dog from jumping on it. We are not sure. Our dog only wants to be on the pool deck all the time.
Awesome job,,, I’ve been on the fence about buying this skimmer and cutting the pool liner but I’ll give it a go ,,, also how did you plug the other 2 skimmer holes? Thanks 🙏
@@MoverandShaker I have the same setup as you guys do and I have to say, your thorough videos have helped a lot! I’ve been thinking about doing this as well, and literally texted my wife a link to the video and said, “My man did it, so now we can!” I recently put a pvc shower pan liner in and was wondering if I could pvc cement a couple of pieces of that material to seal up the old inlet openings. The black hats kind of scare me by themselves. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the compliments. Sounds good with Doing the videos. We watch videos too you know and couldn't have done it without help either from the pool community. We just found out it's gonna rain for aweek . So bummed out Those black hats have kept our pool Water in the pool since 2019. Since we got the Hayward skimmer we had 2 extra and we put them on the outside too just for fun but it's not really even needed. Do video on you pvc shower line to talk about your idea around it.
Thanks for the info....nice job! What pump and sand filter model do you have? I need to upgrade the under sized pump that came with my 18 foot intex pool and change to the Hayward Skimmer.
Hi, there. The cover goes right over the skimmer. It Gets tucked under and the hose gets disconnected. Sometimes when we uncover it, it's kind of Yellow looking, but the weirdest thing Is after we open up the pool. It starts to brighten up again and turns white.
I LOVE YOU AND YOUR WIFE CHANNEL! Quick question just purshased a Intex 3000 sand filter. We had 3 days of storms and no we have no power. Well it did come on after about 35 min and ran for 4 hours than shit off and no power again. Looked at than pushed reset over and over came on and shut off. Have any idea what might be causing this? Only a week old. Frustrating
Neither we lined the square right along the edge on the inside of the liner where the gray part meets the blue and white squares. Our water level usually has the water flower through 1/3 to 1/2 of the square space into the basket. I hope that makes sense.
We just added the skimmer to our pool and it started leaking around the outside corner ..we then put the flex paste and it was fine until this morning ..started leaking again ..we will try to add more ..did you have to add more after your first leak ?
Sorry to hear that. No we realized we shoukd have never cut our gasket in half as it was a butterfly gasket that was meant to go partially in and out but yes we sealed everything up on the outside only with kitchen and bath clear silicone and it held ever since.
@@MoverandShaker oh ok yea we didn’t cut the gasket at all , hopefully another coat of the silicone helps ..where do you have your water line ? Should it be halfway line of skimmer opening ? Noticing air getting in the tubes and we thought water level was ok
Good luck and congratulations.... the skimmer will not make it harder to close, you might want to get a cap for the bottom of the skimmer and maybe a solid cover for the front if you leave water in the pool over the winter.
I put the butterfly gasket on as it is designed, but looks scrunched up on one side. Appears to be leaking in that area now that I have the water level up. Will caulk take care of this or do I need to drain and try again?
I am not sure we split ours in half by mistake and we caulked the entire outside and it appears that it is holding up nicely on our 2nd season this summer. Personally it would bother me of it was scrunched up dud you tighten the face plate too tight?
@@MoverandShaker I'll back it off a little and see if that helps. Wasn't sure if long term caulk would hold yo as a seal for a slow leak. I'll see if I can straighten it out a bit and then caulk. Great video, made the install a breeze!
GAME 4560 40mm to 1 1/2 Inch Conversion Kit (For Intex & Bestway Pools) I am unable to provide a direct link per the rules for this brand but you can copy and past this into Amazon
We have a winterizing video you can check out. We throw a winter kit amzn.to/4494iKd in there drop the water down below the skimmer put a winter pillow in the pool and we cover it tightly and that is about it.
Nice video! Watching from France. I haven’t cut the seal. I screwed everything but I have a small leaking at the bottom right… don’t know what’s causing it. Any suggestions ? Thanks 🙏
Of course... They've been in the holes ever since we've had the pole. On the other side we really didn't have to but we decided to do it just for giggles. I guess but we filled the outside with silicone and put another black cap on top of it just so it wouldn't be a hole.
We just did this last night on our pool and we used the black plugs the cover the hole and put the strainer back on, but it’s leaking water out. Any advice?
You put the black plugs on the inside with the Strainer baskets that screw on and you pool is leaking from the outside? The strainer hole plug does not have a hole on it so the two tubes that come out of your pool should not be leaking any water at all.
@trevorlund4979 not sure what What do you mean the skimmer hose goes directly to the pump about three feet away. You don't need to those hoses for anything else. The waterfall is on the other side.
@@MoverandShaker Sorry for the confusion. What i meant is that I have seen some people connect the skimmer to the other two intake values so there are essentially 3 ways the water inflows. Seems like overkill but I was curious.
Inside of the pool the original strainer hole baskets are still there with the Strainer hole plugs otherwise known as The black hats on the outside we decided for fun to silicone the insides of the tubes that come out of the pool and then we just put 2. Other strainer hole plugs on the outside. We really did not need to do that, but it's just for aesthetic purpose
Just ran across your channel. We’re about to buy an 18x52 just like yours. Any tips I should know about right from the get go? I’m reading that the 2100gph pump that comes in the pool kit isn’t quite big enough? Should I upgrade and sell the one it comes with? Also, I’m reading/seeing I should add a skimmer. Hence how I ran into this video. Hah. Is that a must do as well? Thanks in advance.
Pump, yes, sell it (we did also) and get a 3000 gph, I just wanted more circulation, and it seems to do the trick. As far as the Intex skimmer, we really liked that one when we had it we just needed to go from the 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 for the Hayward skimmer install because of the vacuuming capabilities which is better than before. We used an adapter conversion kit that connects the bottom of the skimmer to those 1.5 Intex hoses. you might want to when setting up your pool make sure you get the area as level as possible, we have a video on that as well, it was our first pool video. whether you go with salt or not you will need to get your pool balanced after filling we have a local pool store just down the street to take our samples to for the supplies, we need to balance our pool. we decided to go to a saltwater intex system which we also made a video for. We enjoy the saltwater setup much better, for us we feel like it is easier to maintain.
@@MoverandShaker thanks for the reply. I’ve never owned a pool so this is all very new to me. What are the benefits of using a saltwater system over a regular system, besides not needing chlorine? Also this is mainly going to be for my wife and three kids. They’ll use it a lot during the summer when I’m out at work. I saw in one of your other videos you spray the pool frame down once you’re done swimming to get the salt build up off. My wife probably won’t remember to do this each time after they use the pool. Have you found that it’s necessary? Again, thanks for the replies.
So the pool comes with 2 strainer hole baskets that cover up the strainer hole plugs. So that is what keeps the water in. Now on the outside of the pool we really didn't need to cover them up with anything at all because the aren't leaking however for aesthetic purposes we had two other strainer hole plugs handy that we popped on the outside almost "just for fun"
Absolutely not. The skimmer is stiff and sits steady on the outside in fact all winter long it was covered up nicely and only the very bottom was poking out. No brace is needed. The skimmers hard plastic plates and ten screws keep this lightweight but durable skimmer completely sturdy.
On the inside of the pool there should be strainer baskets that are supplied with the pool, we use strainer hole plugs amzn.to/42g3DVD under those baskets, we also put silicone on the outside of the pool to make extra sure. No leaks so far. I also used 2 strainer hole plugs a.k.a. "black hats" on the outside just for aesthetics
Hi! Can i have some update on how the wall skimmer works since to you installed it? How long is it installed and is there any leak are damages on the liner with time? Thanks a lot 🙏 Fab
It's still working great. We only opened it up yesterday but it's been running ever since as we get the water prepped. There was a pop on cover that we never knew about that could cover up the inside face plate. It did make the gasket a little yellow. At first the face plate was also yellow but oddly enough as the day went on it turned white again I cannot explain. Other than that nothing is leaking at all and it's still working like a champ. This will be in its second season right now. Don't forget we put silicone around the entire skimmer as well just for that extra added protection.
@@MoverandShaker Thank you so much for the info... Where did you put the silicone exactly? Under the seal plastic cover or just around the plastic cover? Normal seal for sink is good?
It has a circle piece which is a vacuuming attachment. That has a 90゚ elbow which you hook your vacuum hose to And then use whichever vacuuming brush attachment you would like. We also have a robotic vacuum That picks up small stuff from the bottom if we were in the house. And we have an intex stick vacuum That is recharngable For quick cleanups.
We used The strainer hole plugs "the black hats and the original strainer basket cover and on the outside we used the black hats again just for cosmetic purposes but we put silicone all in them first to prevent water leaks if they would ever happen
We used The black strainer hole plugs but more for aesthetic purposes just to make it look decent we didn't want the white Hose connectors sitting there wide open but we did put silicone inside of it just as extra protection to keep the water leaken out and then we discovered it with The Strain hold plug. On the inside of the pool, there are strainer hole plugs with the strainer baskets on top of that
At the time we did the switch the water was fairly high we didn't want to drain any more water out so we used the original return that came with the pool as opposed to the Hayward return yet. We ended up selling that..
I’m losing my mind with this!! I’ve been trying for weeks to install my skimmer and still no success… I can’t find for the life of me the adapter I need for the bottom of the skimmer to go to the hose. You would think this would be easy but no. I bought a part from the hardware store and when I screwed it into the hose, it screws on fine but the hose wiggles. I’m ready to burn my pool! Does anyone know an adapter to attach the hose to the skimmer???
So you can purchase any standard vacuum hose and various attachments and connect them right to the skimmer using the vacuum attachment that comes with the Hayward skimmer. For us we purchased this hose amzn.to/3N91KWE and this Vacuum head amzn.to/43Hjn5n. they are what we use for more thorough cleanups. Now on the other hand we use two other types of vacuums one is for quick cleanups and that would be this one amzn.to/3IWh8mz and lastly we do have a robotic one that we use to get smaller particles and it runs by itself while you are in the house and that was is here amzn.to/42nTs1g. That is it. That is what we are currently using to vacuum.
We aren't familiar with summer waves pools but I don't see why not. I would suggest trying to find a video that someone with a summer waves pool made installing a wood scream
No. They do make skimmer socks for fine particles but you have to have a pump in order to provide proper circulation of your water and for anything you add to your pool whether you have a saltwater pool or chemical pool. There is no way your going to be able to not invest in a pump as part of the main equipment in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of your water.
@@MoverandShaker oh okay because I just bought a very similar new filter/pump upgrade for my pool and it is 1.5” hoses, our old one and the fittings from the pool are 1.25”, guess you have a different model using 2”. I did mine too last year. Was nervous as heck but it works great, no leaks and no issues. Now we can vacuum the pool normally also. Great job!
Great Info thanks!
I did the same thing from how it sounds. Couldn’t be happier!
Very good, thanks for sharing, i need to look for this when i adapt this to mine, i have a have a Summer Waves P20012331 12ft x 33in
What size adaptor did you use for the ball valve? Am I correct in thinking it is a 1.5 MNFT TO 1.5 MNFT?
@harrison0550 would you provide a picture and the adapter you used for the ball valve instead of the intex shutoff valve?
This is the best video I've seen for this skimmer. My pool is much smaller and and don't want anything i side taking up space. Ill probably do it beginning of next season.
Thank you. When you do install it, make sure you don't split your gasket in two pieces we did that and found out it was wrong. Even though we didn't have any leaks, we found out we made a small mistake. We love ours and occasionally we will use a skimmer sock and get even more good dirt in the basket.
@@MoverandShakerrandom question …what brand pool salt do you use ?
Because of your video I was able to have the courage to put this skimmer in and it works amazing . Thank you for your help
Omg we know exactly how you feel ! Awesome. Vacuuming is easier too. We have a video we planned to put up about that
Reason you had that leak at the bottom is because the gasket is suppose to go on the inside of the pool not the outside.
Awesome! Thank you! It's so much nicer!
I’m about to put mine on tomorrow, however, I am putting Lexel sealant on first, to hold the standard butterfly gasket to the faceplate, and let it cure and even up with the holes perfectly.
Good job!
Awesome! Give us and update later in the summer and let us know how it's going. Thanks for sharing!
O.k. will do.

Yeah!!!!!! I hope you sold your old one and even if you didn't you can still sell all the parts.
@@MoverandShaker No I didn't sell my other one. I gave to my neighbor She's a single mom and I know she couldn't afford to get one. she was impressed when she hooked it all up to her pool how all the bugs were gone. 👍😊
Sounds Great that someone you knew could use it.
Thank you both!! I am less nervous to try ours!
We Understand!!!!
We forgot to show it but we did plug them both off. Everything works amazing!
Can you tell me what you used to plug them? I've just replaced with a Hayward and not sure exactly what to ask for when I go to the pool store. Thanks!!!
@Mover and Shaker what do you use to plug those 2 holes
I also plugged both holes off but any time i need to backwash my level goes down so much that i get air into the pump. How do you work around that?
@@MoverandShaker with just the standard black plugs that come with the pool?
This is the reply I was looking for ! So happy you replied . Thank you. I was confused
Lol
Maybe we well try one of those.
Thank you so much.
When it rains or if you backwash you have to adjust the bracket for the skimmer to stay level with the surface. If you do switch make sure you resell you old one because I still sold my used one for $30
Nice job and good, clear presentation. Thank you for the video. I’ve been researching, and I’m definitely going to that skimmer👍
Thank you And you will be so glad. It's so much easier vacuuming from the hayward skimmer than it ever was with the intex skimmer.
Originally found your video on Amazon, decided to subscribe here, lol.
Excellent video! Much better than the instructions that came with the Hayward skimmer. I hope to be doing this in the next couple of weeks.
Congrats! You will love it!! We found you don't have to trim the butterfly gasket into 2 pieces you could keep it together if you want.
1 1/4” hose to 1 1/2” hose. Not 2”. Great video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you. You are correct
Great video !! Can you please explain and possibly provide pictures of how you plugged up the existing 2 intake holes of the pool?
On the inside of the pool, two strainer baskets that came with the pool package And two of these. amzn.to/3ViyhfK. Is all you need. You don't have to have the strainer baskets but it is a good cover If you think you may have someone that wants to pull on them, or if you just want them to look nicer by having a cover over them. They stay put and have been working for a long, long time
@@MoverandShaker dumb question, but you put the plugs in on the inside, and then the strainer screwed back on, ya?
Thank you so much for the courage to do this, I needed that because I wasn't sure about this skimmer until I watched your video. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Glad I could help!
If I am not mistaken. I believe the gasket is supposed to go on the inside of the pool liner and not the outside of the pool.
Im going to leave mine as it came lol
I know what you mean by scared! If that were to happen, must be a hell of a pump! haha
Good job!
Honestly once the face plate is screwed on...the cutting doesn't seem so bad because you have a traced out template all ready to slice! Lol. Good luck!
lol... That's why I wait till my wife's at work before I start a project 😁
1. Together for 21 years...yep we both talk over eachother. Lol. 2. Great idea!! We love it.
@@MoverandShaker Yeah, 40 years here so I know what you mean. Thanks again for the video.
Fantastic video. Thank you!
You're welcome
Thank you very much for the video !!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching
Can you show how you installed and connected the eyeball jet that comes with the skimmer?
Thanks your video is the most straight forward. Gonna give me the confidence to do it tomorrow.
Thank you. We are so glad! You can do it!!!
Hello ,first of all great job. But how do you perform the aspiration? where do you connect the aspiration hose? Thank you
I bought everything in your link to make this happen.
I understand the 2 black plugs but how do you use the strainer grids with those on cause the strainer grid has to have the other part to screw into ?
All 3 go together like a sandwich. You have the permanent wall piece, then the strainer hole plug, and then on top the strainer basket.
Could you video that part?
I put mine in from the outside and sprayed it with Flex Seal. They leaked when I tried them from the inside but this works perfectly.
What did you use to plug the old intake hoses? Please forgive me if you covered it and I missed it. Thank you and great video!
amzn.to/4dPk56c
Are you still glad you switched skimmers? Just set my pool up and I'm trying to decide.
Thank you.
Great! And no we don't. We researched it very briefly. Let us know if you settle on something in particular to heat the pool we woukd love to do that!
You don't explain what you used to plug the original 2 water outlets from the pool to the pump. How did you plug those 2 holes?
It already has the existing strainer hole plugs and the strainer baskets on the holes and for extra protection you could either a) put two strainer hole plugs on the outside and b) fill in the hole from the outside with silicone.
What have you done to keep frames and legs from getting rusted by saltwater? I'm about to put up the same Intex pool and it will be saltwater like yours. Thanks bud
It's fairly simple every time we get out of the pool we wash it down inside and out on the edges the Poles and is everywhere or water would splash Flash and that's the best you can do to be proactive.
How did you close the existing holes? I have the plugs but I need something more permanent
There is no need for anything permanent. We've had those plugs in there, and they have not failed us one bit. They work perfectly
Thanks for the helpful video
Thanks for watching!
Did you not put the new discharge “eyeball” on that it comes with? I’ve heard you get more movement for better circulation with it
No we didn't because the one we have was sufficient enough it seemed.
I put one one my pool today but i didn't cut the seal in half like you. I think it's the better option because you get no leaks but it's a lot scarier because you have to cut without a border to guide you.
We cut it by accident and realized later it wasn't supposed to be that way. it's still worked nicely still.
@@MoverandShaker You guys are not the only ones, most of the skimmer videos do it that way 😀
I want to do that but I have a very playful dog. Maybe if I somehow barricade the skimmer in with some sort of a cage.
you could build a wooden casing around it or place something made of heavy-duty gauge wire to keep the dog from jumping on it. We are not sure. Our dog only wants to be on the pool deck all the time.
How did you close off the 2 1 1/4 return holes that you are no longer using??
They have the original strainer hole plugs "the black hat" and we filled the holes up on the outside with clear silicone.
Awesome job,,, I’ve been on the fence about buying this skimmer and cutting the pool liner but I’ll give it a go ,,, also how did you plug the other 2 skimmer holes? Thanks 🙏
Thank you. We plugged the two holes with the strainer hole plugs ( the black hats) no leaks.
Do video on you pvc shower line to talk about your idea around it.
so you don't need the other 2 intakes no more since you put the skimmer on i will be putting my skimmer on soon
That's right!!
What size pump do you have? Mine seems to suck all the available water out of the skimmer and cause air suction.
amzn.to/3zdV98E
Thanks for the info....nice job! What pump and sand filter model do you have? I need to upgrade the under sized pump that came with my 18 foot intex pool and change to the Hayward Skimmer.
This pump is similar to the one we have amzn.to/3oKTF0T the one we have is unavailable but they are both 16" pumps. 3000 gph
What does everyone do when covering the pool for winter ? I don't see a cover covering this ?
Hi, there. The cover goes right over the skimmer. It Gets tucked under and the hose gets disconnected. Sometimes when we uncover it, it's kind of Yellow looking, but the weirdest thing Is after we open up the pool. It starts to brighten up again and turns white.
@@MoverandShaker very cool. Thanks so much.
Frustrating
Did you fix the gasket? Supposed to be on both sides..
No. It hasn't leaked we siliconed everything tight
What dimension is the pool, im from Europe and i did not see a pool like this ever.
Thanks

Did you place the skimmer at the highest water point of your pool or the lowest water point???
Noticing air getting in the tubes and we thought water level was ok
what is the name of the shut off valve you have connected to the Tube from your skimmer called? Could you leave that in the description?
I think you are talking about this: amzn.to/3KEb9V3 we have several of them and we love them.
What kind of sealant did you use around the outside of the skimmer? Great video! I love watching y’all! Always informative and fun to watch.
Flex shot waterproof sealant from Lowes.
I just ordered my pool, salt water system, and Hayward skimmer. Wish me luck.
Will the skimmer make it harder to close the pool?
Good luck and congratulations.... the skimmer will not make it harder to close, you might want to get a cap for the bottom of the skimmer and maybe a solid cover for the front if you leave water in the pool over the winter.
How do you close off the two outlet hoses?
You use the provided strainer hole plugs that come with the pool or you can get them here. amzn.to/4b2UpS4
What is the other device next to the sand pump?
It's an Intex Salt Water Chlorinator amzn.to/3x15Rib

Thanks 🙏
What did you use to close off your two inlet holes? I am struggling with using those plastic plugs unless I am not doing it correctly
Hi there, we used the strainer hole plugs. amzn.to/49DGeRR
Great video thank . What about the original holes did you use the black caps on them?
Of course... They've been in the holes ever since we've had the pole. On the other side we really didn't have to but we decided to do it just for giggles. I guess but we filled the outside with silicone and put another black cap on top of it just so it wouldn't be a hole.
Thank you
We just did this last night on our pool and we used the black plugs the cover the hole and put the strainer back on, but it’s leaking water out. Any advice?
You put the black plugs on the inside with the Strainer baskets that screw on and you pool is leaking from the outside? The strainer hole plug does not have a hole on it so the two tubes that come out of your pool should not be leaking any water at all.
How do you plug the other two intake holes? I can’t tell from the video and don’t see a link for any type of plug
Hi Trevor you plug the with these. amzn.to/3QWQfTq
And why did you chose to plug rather than connect to the two other intakes? I have seen it done both?
@trevorlund4979 not sure what What do you mean the skimmer hose goes directly to the pump about three feet away. You don't need to those hoses for anything else. The waterfall is on the other side.
@@MoverandShaker Sorry for the confusion. What i meant is that I have seen some people connect the skimmer to the other two intake values so there are essentially 3 ways the water inflows. Seems like overkill but I was curious.
How did you block the 2 holes for the old filter and pump?
Inside of the pool the original strainer hole baskets are still there with the Strainer hole plugs otherwise known as The black hats on the outside we decided for fun to silicone the insides of the tubes that come out of the pool and then we just put 2. Other strainer hole plugs on the outside. We really did not need to do that, but it's just for aesthetic purpose
Do you have a link or info were I can buy those adapters for skimmer?
Which adapters are you referring to? Everything for the Hayward Skimner comes in the box.
Thanks for the video. We have the same skimmer on our intex pool. To winterize, will you drop the water level below the skimmer?
Just below yes.
I also can't seem to find anything to convert the 1 1/4 inch hose to 2 inch.....I found the filter conversion kit that you have but it's 1.5 inch...?
Is that shut off valve for the skimmer basket the one on Amazon with the frequently bought
What did you plug the original suction holes with?
So the pool comes with 2 strainer hole baskets that cover up the strainer hole plugs. So that is what keeps the water in. Now on the outside of the pool we really didn't need to cover them up with anything at all because the aren't leaking however for aesthetic purposes we had two other strainer hole plugs handy that we popped on the outside almost "just for fun"
@@MoverandShaker ok thanks. I’m actually filling the pool with water now and haven’t gone through all the equipment yet.
Congratulations 🎊👏💐🥳🎊
What sound with the original inlet holes?
Can you rephrase your question?
@@MoverandShaker what did you do with the original inlets? But I think I asked too soon into the video
@@Ghurst2002 I use amzn.to/4eerCeV these on the inside and the outside. The outside is mainly for aesthetic purposes but it's really not needed.
Do you have any problems when people get moving in the pool and shake the skimmer all over the place?? Do you support it with a brace or a bungee cord
Absolutely not. The skimmer is stiff and sits steady on the outside in fact all winter long it was covered up nicely and only the very bottom was poking out. No brace is needed. The skimmers hard plastic plates and ten screws keep this lightweight but durable skimmer completely sturdy.
What did you use to block off the 2 other intakes on the pool?
The strainer hole plugs that came with the pool
Does having a more powerful pump create more suction for the skimmer?
Without a doubt
What did you use to plug the extra hole?
These right here. amzn.to/3x7EPWh
Thanks!
Can I ask what you used to close of the other two return holes?
On the inside of the pool there should be strainer baskets that are supplied with the pool, we use strainer hole plugs amzn.to/42g3DVD under those baskets, we also put silicone on the outside of the pool to make extra sure. No leaks so far. I also used 2 strainer hole plugs a.k.a. "black hats" on the outside just for aesthetics
Thank you, I will give it a try. 😀
Hi!
Can i have some update on how the wall skimmer works since to you installed it?
How long is it installed and is there any leak are damages on the liner with time?
Thanks a lot 🙏
Fab
We just put it around the outside perimeter only of the entire skimmer. It is standard issue clear bathroom caulk.
Thank you 🙏
And how do you vaccum the pool with the skimmer installed?
Where to plug the vaccum hose?
It has a circle piece which is a vacuuming attachment. That has a 90゚ elbow which you hook your vacuum hose to And then use whichever vacuuming brush attachment you would like. We also have a robotic vacuum That picks up small stuff from the bottom if we were in the house. And we have an intex stick vacuum That is recharngable For quick cleanups.
How did you cover the other 2 inlets?
We used The strainer hole plugs "the black hats and the original strainer basket cover and on the outside we used the black hats again just for cosmetic purposes but we put silicone all in them first to prevent water leaks if they would ever happen
I can’t find 2.0 hoses for this set up
It's 1.5"
It's probably a little late and I apologize but we have these hoses, and they are sturdy well-built and work better. amzn.to/3N882pr
How did you block off the 2 other holes that you replaced the Hayward skimmer with?
We used The black strainer hole plugs but more for aesthetic purposes just to make it look decent we didn't want the white Hose connectors sitting there wide open but we did put silicone inside of it just as extra protection to keep the water leaken out and then we discovered it with The Strain hold plug. On the inside of the pool, there are strainer hole plugs with the strainer baskets on top of that
How about the Hayward return jet?
At the time we did the switch the water was fairly high we didn't want to drain any more water out so we used the original return that came with the pool as opposed to the Hayward return yet. We ended up selling that..
That’s good make your pump feel powerful
I’m losing my mind with this!! I’ve been trying for weeks to install my skimmer and still no success… I can’t find for the life of me the adapter I need for the bottom of the skimmer to go to the hose. You would think this would be easy but no. I bought a part from the hardware store and when I screwed it into the hose, it screws on fine but the hose wiggles. I’m ready to burn my pool! Does anyone know an adapter to attach the hose to the skimmer???
The link to it is in the description of our video.
How do you vacuum the pool?
Can you post the items you bought
Did you buy them on Amazon
Where did you get the turn off valve that you attached to the prefilter basket and end of the hose?
I’m looking for the same thing online myself, did you happen to find it? Thanks
Curious about what you mentioned adding to the skimmer!
Interesting, i have a Summer Waves P20012331 12ft x 33in, will this work on it too?
We aren't familiar with summer waves pools but I don't see why not. I would suggest trying to find a video that someone with a summer waves pool made installing a wood scream
@@MoverandShaker Thanks, i had been looking around, will keep looking.
Can this be used as a skimmer and a filter?
@@MoverandShaker ok, thanks so much!
You installed the gasket incorrectly. It goes on both sides of the liner. There is a groove in the outside of the gasket. It is like 2 pieces.
We do have a gasket on both sides of the liner. I guess you didn't see it. We realized it's saddles the liner after the fact we had split it
It meant to go in as one piece...maybe that's why it leaked on the bottom. If you cut it in half. Thanks for the video!
Is it 2” or 1.5” hose?
We're using a 2" hose with that adapter that we bought that fits to the Hayward skimmer separate piece
@@MoverandShaker oh okay because I just bought a very similar new filter/pump upgrade for my pool and it is 1.5” hoses, our old one and the fittings from the pool are 1.25”, guess you have a different model using 2”. Anyways great video and we have been thinking about the Hayward skimmer and doing our research and think we are gonna do it now, still nervous
@@derek5 Yes we were nervous too but we wish we had done it sooner
@@MoverandShaker perfect we are just getting all the parts together for next season, so thanks again..hope it is still holding up, keep us updated if you can
