I miss the 360 era. I had tons of Halloween fun playing cod zombies, l4d, dead rising and using the Netflix party back when it functioned as a theater with the avatars on the xbl party
F.E.A.R. and Condemned were a massive one-two punch from Monolith around that time. Such great games that still play extremely well. It would be awesome to have remakes of them using UE5, but they still look quite good apart from the character models/faces considering their age. Same goes for Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, which released a year or two before these, and right on the heels of Doom 3. What a great time. I mourn the loss of some of these studios but Trepang2 is basically a love letter to F.E.A.R. and Butcher's Creek gives off some tasty Condemned/Manhunt vibes, so there's some hope.
It holds up so well too. Can't believe how old those games are. They came out when I was in high school and I still like to boot it up every once in awhile
The 1st few times I played Dead Rising, I had no idea what to do either. Then I went to a friend's house who had an HD TV, and I realized you were supposed to be able to read the text in the game!
i grew up watching my uncle playing condemned. i can say that it’s my all time favorite after beating it. the atmosphere and graphics are just perfect for the tone of the game.
Great video, I'd also add FEAR to the list. Monolith Productions was awesome back in 2005. Recently found out Dying Light 1 was going to release on Xbox 360/PS3, but those versions were cancelled. Wonder how those would've been like as they ported Dying light to the Nintendo Switch.
I need to play the Dead Space remake, I've heard that it's not only a graphical improvement, but that they improved the game and game play as well. Condemned was a game I was always interested in but never played, I may need to give it a shot. But I played a ton of Left4Dead and Dead Rising, love those.
Commended was so good. Recently replayed it on a emulator and had such a good time! Also left for dead 1 as a Christmas gift was such a memory. Spent all of winter vacation split screening it with my cousins.
You should do a video with some of the last 360 games released. Forza Horizon 2, Titanfall, Rise of the Tomb Raider The games that look like they couldn't run on a 2005 system but somehow do.
Alien isolation and the Alien campaign in AvP. Nothing like being stalked and literally "nothing" you can do. All the worst when running into a hive den with 11 rounds and your radar is constantly going off.
Condemned Criminal Origins, Dead Space, Alan Wake and Dead Rising really impacted me. When it comes to next generation horror games, and Condemned in my opinion is one of the most unique horror games I've played. I really love the mechanics of this where we solve crimes using gadgets, and the mannequin enemies really scared me.
Condemned is still so scary and has some of the best first-person melee combat to this day. The atmosphere is still incredible and it's honestly one of my favorite horror games. So understated.
I always felt that Calisto Protocol was an unintentional homage to Monolith's Condemned games and it was unfortunately misunderstood at launch(due to marketing selling it as a spiritual Dead Space successor). It had a similar visceral meaty crunchiness to the combat and a similar dodge + counter attack simple Punch-Out style combat with increasing complexity as you progressed. I don't play too many titles like this. Zeno Clash from ACE and Breakdown from Namco on the orginal Xbox are a few others I can think of.
My favourite part is how influencers like Suzi the Sphere Hunter and especially Pyrocynical still try to insist that Callisto was a bomb that killed the developers.... But the game was a moderate success that spun off into a franchise beginning with a roguelike action spin-off called [REDACTED] this year. Callisto is flawed, but it's still pretty fun and the marketing could've done a better job at marketing its actual gameplay.
@@NebLleb A lot of influencers had it in their heads that it was a survival horror experience similar to Resident Evil but it was just not that kinda of game. It had some shared DNA with Dead Space but I liked that Striking Distance was trying something new with it. There was already the Dead Space remake around the corner, so to me it made sense not to just rehash the same game

Great list! Condemned has such a disturbing setting and while it may not have aged well in the graphics department, it makes up for it everywhere else. Also can't go wrong with Dead Space and Alan Wake for the ultimate single player horror experience! Left 4 Dead was fun in co-op but often frustrating due to the brilliant AI. Definitely challenging at times... Still need to go back and finish the first Dead Rising! Would love to hear your thoughts on F.E.A.R., the Silent Hill games on Xbox 360, and Deadly Premonition.
If you have not played condemned I really suggest that you do! Sequel is also good. Definitely play it! As always great video! My birthday is in October and I love horror/ Halloween
No way new video. I love listening to your content while working from home. Just hit my lunch break but I can’t wait to check it out when I get back to work. So excited for Halloween so this is a perfectly timed video!
I’ve always wanted to play Condemned, and Dead Space. I know; haven’t played either yet. L4D and Alan Wake are on my favorite games of all time list. Though I would say L4D2 is the better overall game, the 1st one has enough differences that it’s fantastic in its own right. Alan Wake and its sequel is a marvelous set of games. Lastly, Dead Rising is a must play experience with an open world setting and the feeling of freedom. All of these are excellent choices to include on a video like this!
I miss Monolith doing fps games now they are stuck doing Shadow of Mordor games. They used to put out really banger fps games, Blood, No One Lives Forever 1 and 2, Contract Jack, FEAR, and Condemned.
You should talk about the game Murdered: soul suspect next time :) I just started my play through of it on the 360 and it’s so far it’s a neat story with some interesting gameplay elements! The frame rate can be a bit choppy at times it’s still pretty fun :)
Alan Wake is an ABSOLUTE GEM. Idk if the remake is any good, I mean, I imagine they ruined all the licensed music but still everyone should play Alan Wake however they can.
Dead Rising is great but I'd struggle to call it a horror game. It's hard to imagine now, but seeing that many enemies on the screen at one time felt ground-breaking in 2006.
It’s not necessarily traditional horror but more of a campy action game set in a horror like universe but I’d recommend giving lollipop chainsaw a whirl. It’s an ode to the classics. Also FEAR is a must play horror shooter on the 360. Gears of war 1 is a bit of a stretch like but I like to consider it part horror. Finally Dante’s inferno is also a game that isn’t a horror game but it has all the elements to make its setting have the feel of horror
For Alan Wake i still need to get the Sequel one day :) Also i would like to see your talk about American Nightmare as well :) And maybe Alice Madness Returns? :)
The Condemned games are a funny one, I love them both just as much as they frustrate me. Played them both through a load of times, but I always wished 1 was more like 2 and 2 was more like 1 😆
Most of these games are on PC as well. So most of that list I have on my Steam library. But I do know that the games on the list did first come out for XBOX 360. I am glad that the original Condemned, Alan Wake and Dead Rising games were released for PC as well. I do enjoy playing Dead Rising, but I would highly recommend using an XBOX controller for that game, since it's easier to play with it, then with a mouse and keyboard. Condemned also works really well, thankfully it doesn't need a strong computer to run it. Alan Wake sadly does, my laptop can run some XBOX 360 games, but not all of them. It makes me glad that some 360 titles were released for PC, so that PC players don't feel left out on the 360 experience.

I loved the 360, I hacked the hell out of mine, and was apart of the COD modded lobbies scene for a while, made a lot of money off it. But my biggest pride and joy was COD Zombies hacks, because I could make it so people who just had a burnt drive could use it, they didn't need a JTAG, so a lot of people were using the zombies cheats. Fun times. Condemned was definitely my favorite game on the console by far.
Anyone on TH-cam stating a video game is "dated" has no idea the amount of work that's required to create a video game because they're not in the industry. The gameplay today is functional like it was before and just because technology evolves and newer games or remasters/remakes are made that doesn't mean they're automatically better.
