  • In this episode of The Muscle Memoirs Podcast, I am joined by Dr. Roy Taylor to discuss his research on type 2 diabetes remission, including the etiology of the disease, the personal fat threshold, and very-low-calorie diets.
    Dr. Taylor is a professor of Medicine and Metabolism at Newcastle University and Honorary Consultant Physician at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He was visiting professor of medicine at Yale University (1990-91) where he acquired new MRI methods to look into the human body. On returning to the UK, he established the Newcastle MR Centre. He also developed the UK system for screening of diabetic eye disease and is the author of over 300 scientific papers.

    I'm surprised there is so little advice on healthy eating with lots of fiber and more focus on these shakes. By bulking up with low calorie density foods you can still eat reasonably large amounts of food and lose weight. That to me at least sounds more sustainable long term to keep the weight off.

    • @user-fk8rb8ue5h
      @user-fk8rb8ue5h ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because if you are taking in the shakes, you're not having to worry about what to eat and then food can be taken out of the equation. Let's face it healthy, eating doesn't have an exactly fantastic track record when it comes to Weight loss and keeping it off. Do more reading Nicholas about Dr Taylor and educate yourself.

    So if I’m understanding this correctly, it’s probably not the sugar or fruits that is the cause of type 2 diabetes, but rather eating too many varieties of fats. It makes sense because sugar is our brain and muscles preferred energy source for food.

    • @yangtse55
      @yangtse55 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roy Taylor demonstrated that it's just FOOD. Excess fat, carbs or even protein are made into fat and stored. His shakes happen to be high protein for satiety.,.. but 800kcals per day is a short term thing..

      "Luck" ? But there are plenty of other good reasons to lose the weight. I was an active (daily cyclist) mostly WF vegan when I tipped over the threshold at BMI 32 but I carried it well until laid out by flu in 2019.

    I did not follow this plan. I followed my Grandmothers. She was an RN, died at 87 years of age in 1994.
    Her theory was Diabeties was caused by sugar and carbohydrates. Others reciently have added pressed vegetable oil and processed or manufactured food.
    4 yeas on, here are the changes. 300lbs down to 215 and slowly down. No more Angina, skin problems almost gone, lower extremity edima. HbA1c 5.9 to 5.1 liver Chem. from border line to middle of the ranges. Eat Salmon and 25 Hydroxy Vit D from 20 to 40 and still rising.
    Cut carbs and appetite will self-regulate as will weight.
    I now follow Dr. W. Davis, MD. UNDOCTORED. This book is a DIY for health maintenance. Much of this book my grandmother tried to teach me and I think she would approve of the rest.
    Fix the diet ( cut the Carbs) the rest naturally follows.
