Check your carb boot. Bend it in all axis while squriting starting fluid on the boot. If it revs you have a leak. Also make sure the carb is level in flight. An angled one is flowing different fuel streams into cylinder
I remember earlier videos when you mentioned the cylinder head temp issue … but so many other things were going on with your build that I never thought to ask, whether the mixture in that particular cylinder, is always leaner than the mixture in the other cylinder 🤔 - You can see where I’m going with this. Ps - Ava really is stealing the show 😊
There are a couple of ways to reduce your motor temps with 2T motors, but you should keep in mind that cooler weather will lean out your fuel/air mixture. You could use a premium synthetic 2T oil in your fuel, which will help keep temps down. Also you can adjust your carburetor, a richer fuel/air mixture will keep temps down. A third way to manage your temps would be to adjust your ignition timing, retarding the timing can help combat some temp issues. I almost never trust temperature sensors when it comes to 2T motors, because the material composition of your piston(s), piston wall(s), and ring(s) can also affect how hot the motor can run. Great little airframe, I enjoyed watching it fly!
Hello I had the same problem on my snowmobile it was the rubber boot that held the carburetor on it had a crack so it made one side lean and head temp was too high
Jonas, When I had my AirBike I replaced the Rotax 447 with the Hirth F23 50hp horizontally opposed engine, and it was perfect for the plane, and made flying it so much more fun! And reliable, too, no issues with it at all for three years until I sold it for a bigger plane.
Had a Rotax 277 powered Airbike but not for long. I bought it used. Trailered it home to the high desert. Got it flying and headed west to buzz a friend about 5 miles west and maybe 400' elevation higher. As I was going the ground was coming up to meet me and about halfway there I turned back realizing I wasn't going to make it before I flew into the ground. I had reached about 2800' altitude and achieved more than max service ceiling with that 1 cyl rotax vibrator. My heart was in my throat as I made the shallowest right turn in aviation history fearing contact with with a tall Joshua tree was in the realm of possibilities. As I got going back east the ground gradually started to fall away to my relief. Arriving safely back at home base at 2600 elevation, I started shopping for more power. I made a poor choice but that's another story.
Glad you finally got your bike Home. Thank you for letting us see your little girl, She sure is a cutie and i'm going up too fast Hope you and your family have a merry christmas.
Beautiful baby Ava, beautiful mama, beautiful family. Because I liked'em back in the sixtys, were it possible, I'd build one of the refurbished conversion Corvair engines and the plane around it. Changing the size of the carburettor needle jet will fix your problem. This jet is for cruise, the main jet full power and the idle jet for idle. For example If the needle jet is a 270 put a 272 in. The larger number indicates a richer mixture.
I’m purely basing this on what he said in that video. Which was cht increased when power was reduced. If he had egt fitted this would show an increase in temp also. This indicates the main jet size must be ok. Cruise setting mixture is set by needle jet size and needle type and position as it can be raised or lowered, which will change full power setting and cruise. I still maintain the needle jet is too small causing a lean mixture in cruise setting. Carburettors need to be tuned to different elevations.
Awwe, Ava is so cute. Btw, when I first saw that screenshot picture of Ava in your lap in the plane, my first thought was “Silvija is going to kill him if he takes her flying!” 😂😂😂 Cool plane!
Theres got to be one simple little fix with that over heating issue. Ive had nothing but fun flying with my 447... I love it! Ive let it sit for a year and she will start on the third pull.. always runs cool too. But like I said, it has the belt driven fan..

Hi Jonas, I had a Fly Products Paramotor that was 2 stroke, I had set up EGT & CHT on it & I found that it didn't like being held at a constant RPM and actually ran cooler at full throttle or if I played with the throttle up and down . I also had a Yamaha 2 stroke enduro back in the day that was the same way . on a highway run it would heat up if held at a constant speed for more than 5 minutes but if you varried the theottle up and down like you were off road it worked fine and did so for the 10 years that I owned it.. anyway maybe its just as simple as playing with the throttle while flying , just like yanking and banking ..
AVA is soo cute...does the air bike have folding wings? love to seee someone do a 4-stroke conversion, like the thump-air 460 from badlands aircraft or the 4-stroke v-twins like kohler or gaokin
mine is actually not an airbike, its a one off airplane copied off the airbike and the wings do not fold but they pop off fast and has holders for the wings on the fuse in a folding looking state. not sure if the airbike wings fold. i dont think they do
Just get a CV carb for it, the one it has needs to be jetted for altitude, temperature all the time. A CV compensates for those conditions. A little research will get to the right CV for that application. A carb much like those used on the Rotax but sized to the two stroke. Just a thought, enjoy your videos.
There may be two separate problems relating to your high temps. I flew a Kolb firefly with the Rotax 447 for a few years and although the top end tuned up nicely, the EGT’s would spike in the 4,000-5,000 rpm midrange. I worked with a knowledgeable Rotax engine guy that told me that the Rotax 447 was a bored out 377 and the port timing was off enough to cause the high mid range temps on the 447’s. It certainly was the case with mine however I have not flown any other 447’s. The top end high temps may likely be a separate issue. Just some thoughts FWIW. BTW, the baby is adorable.
My 63 Sporster always ran two different sparkplugs to adjust the heat range. The back jug on a Harley doesn't get the cooling the front jug gets so it's normal to run a cooler range plug in the back. Has anyone experimented with different heat range plugs on a two stroke?
This would be a great candidate for an electric conversion. It looks like Top Rudder is going to be making an electric version of their 103 Solo. I'm looking forward to seeing electric ultralights in the future!
I'm flying with a 1/2 VW in my Hummels ultra Cruiser and just love it. I have almost 1800 hours. They do shake but burn only around 1.8gph. Think about it....
Yo... fellow Airbiker. I was running the 443 and like you, I'm tired of starring at my EGT/CHT gauge. I've decided to put an Aeromarine v-twin 4 stroke on it. You should look into it bro.
It’s great to see you in the air again! Why not get a rotax 503? Those are proven reliable little power plants… or maybe a 1/2 VW? I’m on this heated jacket…. I have an open cockpit biplane and a heated jacket would be great!
I really haven't had that much time on them. with the weather getting cold. And landing at the house is so different than at the airport that its hard to compare. I did notice that i needed more back force on the stick on take off, kinda like when you deploy flaps. I still need to add vgs to the tail also. So that will change things up. Ill report back on what i find. The swept wings is such a pain. im not sure if im putting them in the right place. that was a brain cluster to think about.
love your videos on the airbike i have a Cyclone AX3 my self and with living in the uk it gets a bit cold 4-5 months of the year tho im planning on getting my ppl this year keep up the great work with the videos
pretty sure the cht is fairly accurate. as it does change as I mess with the baffling intake. I think its just a bit on the lean side and I need to forget the rotax chart and just put the jet size in that works.
Could you move the cht sender to a different cylinder and compare the readings ? And I guess you should rule out the wiring also . . Thanks for sharing your beautiful family Jonas. Bob

Hi mate. Great to see the family. Looks like Ava will be a pilot. All the best for Holidays.
Changing the size of the carburettor needle jet will fix your problem. This jet is for cruise, the main jet full power and the idle jet for idle.
For example If the needle jet is a 270 put a 272 in. The larger number indicates a richer mixture.
@vinceburling4613 Others have suggested this and Jonas has tried a number of jets, bigger, smaller and it hasn't helped.
I’m purely basing this on what he said in that video. Which was cht increased when power was reduced. If he had egt fitted this would show an increase in temp also. There may be two separate problems relating to your high temps. I flew a Kolb firefly with the Rotax 447 for a few years and although the top end tuned up nicely, the EGT’s would spike in the 4,000-5,000 rpm midrange. My 63 Sporster always ran two different sparkplugs to adjust the heat range. The back jug on a Harley doesn't get the cooling the front jug gets so it's normal to run a cooler range plug in the back.

It’s great to see you in the air again! Why not get a rotax 503? Those are proven reliable little power plants… or maybe a 1/2 VW? I’m on this heated jacket…. I have an open cockpit biplane and a heated jacket would be great!
Can you not just take a few shims out of the fan pulley to tighten up the belt? That is what we always had to do with the 503's for better cooling
Snowmobile engine we ran dual carburetor with different jet in each carburetor
huh, that is interesting! Yeah maybe I should get the dual carb kit.
comment on the VG's and how well or not they worked???
I really haven't had that much time on them. with the weather getting cold. And landing at the house is so different than at the airport that its hard to compare.
I did notice that i needed more back force on the stick on take off, kinda like when you deploy flaps. I still need to add vgs to the tail also. So that will change things up.
Ill report back on what i find.
The swept wings is such a pain. im not sure if im putting them in the right place. that was a brain cluster to think about.
thanks for your reply. Looking forward to that. You have a lovely family!!!@@JonasMarcinko
Question about your Airbike. Is the horizontal "ladder" in the fuselage to stiffen it up so you don't need the cables going back to it from the wings?
Not sure. I wouldn’t think the cables are necessary but the builder included them so I fly with them.
Get the plans and build a 1/2 VW engine 🙂
I still need to find the old TEAM Aircraft promo video. I had it on VHS and converted it to an MP4
Great Video!
love your videos on the airbike i have a Cyclone AX3 my self and with living in the uk it gets a bit cold 4-5 months of the year tho im planning on getting my ppl this year
keep up the great work with the videos
Nice
Like Colin said. " you're living a dream " our dream . . . have you ruled out the cht sender ? Thanks, Bob
pretty sure the cht is fairly accurate. as it does change as I mess with the baffling intake. I think its just a bit on the lean side and I need to forget the rotax chart and just put the jet size in that works.
Could you move the cht sender to a different cylinder and compare the readings ? And I guess you should rule out the wiring also . . Thanks for sharing your beautiful family Jonas. Bob
There's Jonas livin' the _dream_ !
Merry Christmas to your amazingly beautiful family sir! I'd say knowing you and your sense of adventure look for the highest horsepower Rotax you can find and slap it on there!
