loganbain90 No, the "C" in "GLC" is just to reference the C-class sedan, which is the small saloon version of this small suv. There's actually a non-coupe GLC 43, and it costs about 3000$ less.
ah my mistake about the c. I was confused because the "Coupe" just refers to the roofline and not the actual amount of doors, because they do not make a two door version. They do in fact make the version without the sloped roof. I thought they discontinued it when they started selling the "coupe" though.
I completely stopped watching after that part. I forgot how clueless the TFL videos could be. This is like saying that a 4 series convertible is not a direct competitor to a C-class coupe. No shit, then get a 4 series coupe, or just don't mention it all.
If I had the money I’d buy the Audi - they simply make the best interiors on the market and enjoy the driving experience. I’ve owned two over the years and they performed flawlessly
Drove both Sq5 and Glc43( non coupe), and Finally I ordered Sq5 to replace my Glc-300. The Glc 43 is really fast, but not comfortable as Sq5, no CarPlay, also interior feature is not nicer to use than Sq5.
Actually the GLC is claimed to have 4.8 seconds on 0-60 the sq5 is 5.1 seconds 0-60 and motortrend has always found the audi claims to be understated meaning motortrend was able to get 0-60 way below 5 seconds. Also the power band on the sq5 is at lower rpms its 1300 so the full hp and torque is available right at launch. I have the SQ5 and I drove the GLC43 before I made my decision and I found in dynamic mode the sq5 handled turns better and accelerated better overall and the peddle response and the play in the steering wheel was limited to give more exact movements. Lets pretend im totally wrong and bias and both manufacturers are spot on with their numbers .3 of a second difference between the cars is not way faster. On top of all that if price matters to someone at all you can get the sq5 for easily 5k cheaper than the coupe I saved about 8k difference and thats loaded up to same options. Please do some research before trying to shoot someone down with your words.
My friend, I said the GLC43 is actually feels way faster than SQ5 no doubt , but it is really not comfortable as SQ5 does. SQ5 is more refined and mature feel.
Truth, I think you just misread in your hurry to be mad. He said it was faster, but not as nice or practical interior. I know where I live, going fast is mostly prevented due to constant traffic and traffic lights. You can have a sub 5.0 60 time, but rarely will you get to use it and when you do use it, you'll see already crappy gas mileage (both these have bad mpg) will be down around 16mpg or so. I am definitely avoiding the RS or AMG models, the mpg hit is way too high for some novelty I will rarely get to use. With my luck, the few times I do get a nice open road, one of the plethora of local police officers will be sitting and waiting. No thanks. Now, if I move to wide open desert or rural mountain areas, who knows.
I drove both several times. The GLC43 SUV version drives better, has better sound, and better ergonomics inside. I didn’t think it was close. The October Car and Driver review ranked the Audi SQ5 last and Merc 1st which was my impression on test driving them. Car and Driver suggested the SQ5 was already outdated even though it just came out. Also the Audi hardly changed the exterior appearance from previous version of SQ5.
Not sure your point. Many on these threads just yell out one car or the other like fan boys. I actually went out and drove the Audi SQ5, Macan GTS, Jaguar F Pace, and Mercedes GLC43 SUV. I looked them over inside and outside while getting into back seats with the front seats at driving position. Compared the drives and gas mileage. All are very nice cars and there is no "bad choice". None blow the others away either. But IMO the Mercedes GLC43 SUV was the best in driving and interior. Exterior is in the eye of the beholder. I have not driven the new redo of the BMW X3 M40i which will be a competitor to these other cars.
Outdated? I guess if C&D suggested it, then it must be the way it is? I rarely agree with C&D and their writers aren't very good. From my perspective the SQ5 is more advanced in many ways than most of it's competitors. I really have my doubts about the acceleration times they published for the SQ5 as well. My dad has an AMG GLC 43, which I pretty much talked him to getting and I have a AMG C43, so no Audi bias here. If I were going to buy a car in this class today, I would be chosing between SQ5 or X3 M40i.
Jonas Schy thanks for the info. How do you feel the sq5 compares to the glc43. My lease is going to be up on my S3 and I’m looking at these vehicles. The glc43 is supposed to be faster but I’m really loving the air suspension and look of the sq5 while also leasing better and the performance is Almost same on paper. Thanks
Thanks for the review but why put the Coupe version GLC43 against the Audi SQ5? Mercedes also offer the extra cabin space with the non Coupe version of the GLC43, thats a more appropriate choice against the Audi SQ5
Which front seats are more comfortable if you were to take a 5 hour trip? Front seats are the #1 criteria for me, everything else a very distant second and lower. If the front seat is too hard, lumpy or if it has bolsters that painfully push into ribs or thighs, I immediately cross the car off my list, no matter how stoked I might be with say the engine or radio or design or features. I wish reviews talked a bit more about seats and how they feel to a few test drivers/peers. Instead we get a "the seats LOOK nice (who cares, I won't be facing them I will be sitting in them) and are comfortable (what does that mean, really comfortable or adequate or passable or what).
Having tried both, the Merc seats by a long shot if you are average height to very tall. Fantastic seats, the Audi seats are great too…but for comfort Merc.
I rather get the AMG better built vehicle. My sister SQ5 is always in the shop. My wife Q3 that we just bought it 4 month ago now and it's already in the shop at Audi for over 3 weeks now due to a dead ECM. I have own Mercedes for over 18 years now. I never have any issues like those Audi's. It always comes down which vehicle is more reliable.... That part you left out on your video....
Yea... about the turbos, Car and Driver got the SQ5 from 0-60 in 5.1s but from 5-60 mph it took 6.1s. The GLC43 they tested did 0-60 in 4.3s and took 5.4s to go from 5-60. I can understand the idea of downsizing and efficiency but I still miss naturally aspirated engines and them superchargers. In many real life situations the last gen SQ5 would probably smoke this new one.
Wouldn’t be upset with either in my garage but I’d enjoy the extra practicality of the Audi and I prefer the looks both interior and exterior but I’m not mad at the Merc either.
Thank you for pointing that out! I noticed that and didn’t like that part: fake exhaust posing as real! At least Audi owned it! Everyone else making comments on the exhaust are sheep!
Unless you get the Performance exhaust upgrade. It is dual back with a valved H-pipe section and input to the muffler with a butterfly valve, post muffler, to allow better air flow out through two pipes then to the unattached tips. The unattached tips allow for airflow from under the car to mix with the hot exhaust gasses therefore cooling them slightly as they exit through the fairing. Having a connected exhaust tip would tend to heat and age the fairing prematurely causing cosmetic issues that all car manufacturers do not want, especially higher end ones. Just get one and run some cherry bombs out the back because that would be cool, even bitchin'. But please name the ones that go through the fairing that are welded onto the exhaust pipe and note how much that makes a difference.
I prefer the look of the Merc...hands down..and it comes in a suv vs coupe body style....but leaned towards the Audi for the reasons you mentioned. The fake exhaust is an irritant of mine, and Audi needs to engineer that back into the equation. The Audi interior is about 2 notches better and felt more comfortable...I bought the Audi. Good Review Roman.
Roman you don't spend enough time in your videos describing how the car feels to drive. You spend too much time talking about things we can just see online and in photos like specs and technology and design.
Hasan Al-habbobi Yes. The Brilliant Blue metallic “that’s what it’s actually called” is actually brilliant and gives a great metallic and eye catching color option to Mercedes-Benz cars. I also respect other peoples opinions.
Finally a video where it is just Mercedes and Audi two German companies that represent luxury, BMW and Porsche are designed for performance but also include high end luxury models like the 7 series and panorama.
I got my sq5 2 weeks ago, its one of the best driving cars in the segment and you can change the settings to either run performance for speed and sharp turning ability or comfort where the ride will be more floaty over bumps etc.
Idk this is really tough. I've always been biased towards Mercedes but I love the interior of the Audi, it just looks so clean and modern. But I think I'd go with the Mercedes because of the coupe styling.
Hasan Al-habbobi fun fact those are still fake. The pipe is a duel pipe but the quad tips aren't real they don't add anything but aesthetics. They look good but don't serve a function

Roman, you guys make great content but I always cringe when you say "pound foot of torque" in every single video. It's pound FEET of torque or foot pounds of torque. Anything higher than 1 lb/ft of torque is plural.
I don’t. I think it’s pointless. I happen to think the traditional SUV shape is more handsome. Even then, the rooflines on the GLC and Q5 slope in the back, making their cargo area not nearly as useable as one would think
This guy definitely favours the amg. He is ok with fake noise on the inside(sounds better but not the real thing) He isn't ok with fake exhaust tips on the Audi(looks better but isn't the real thing)
You can't just say one transmission is an 8 speed vs a 9 speed. What's the difference between the two? How many under drive gears vs overdrive gears? What are the ratios? Educate us, don't baffle us. The total number of gears isn't all that important. What each gear does is.
My first car was a 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero it was amazing bought it in September 2nd unfortunately on October 2nd I had to get rid of it I’m very sad it’s gone their very rare to find well my parents let me choose the cars that I want the car I have now is a 2016 Kia Optima Sxl turbo very happy about it
So I traded my Audi for the Amg Mercedes coupe. All I have to say is the wife went back demanding the Audi back... of course the Audi sold within three days verses the coupe took a whole week to get.. q8 here she comes. I’m keeping the coupe lol..Audi’s interior just speaks to the wife
the latest Audi designs are sharper - for me duller... the previous designs were the peak for the brand: a combination between understatement and elegance which included infinitely both of them.
Roman, why am I looking at your video for 7+min if all added value you have to say at the end is "If you are an Audi guy, get the Audi...etc? Is that all? Seriously? It's all around the brand?
Ery informative review. I have been a fan of the sq5 and the interior is gorgeous and that real leather smell wonderful. But I will go drive a glc amg. 60k is doable f look r my budget. And yeah mb finally got it they have to give the American drivers what they want f ok r interiors, plush and luxourios.
To me the MB is just heads and tails better looking. It’s also faster. It has less interior space and I think it’s gets less MPG as well I believe. I hate to sound like Roman cause he gets paid to make a decision and really should have but it does boils down to are you a MB person or an Audi person. All these people saying this way or that way...it’s a matter of opinion. There is no right answer. Realistically if you got the money for either you are only dealing with first world problems.
The first generation sq5 is far superior in my opinion, the designer must be straight out of college for the second generation especially when it has come to the wheels and those stupid excuses called blank plates for exhausts!!!! Come on Audi this is a car with an “S” badge for heaven sake if it belongs to the “S” family it needs real exhausts, on that I would vote for the merc
Motortrend trend just did this comparo with the Macanudo gts thrown in.. Mercedes-Benz won.. Then porsche, then the Audi.. They did real aggressive drive testing and the Audi wasn't sporty at all
how many days in year you drive sporty? these big cars made for comfort...and they called with those AMG,RS tags only to show they can speed up faster then regular version! If you want sport but a real sport car..not a family SUV
I just bought my audi sq5 2 weeks ago after i test drove the glc amg43 first the interior quality of the audi was better when comparing apples to apples and you got alot more for the money. The sq5 sticker was 63k with additional money off etc the coupe mercedes was going to run close to 70k with no incentives and interior was not as good.
tonyg41 i have worked for both companies and even tho the audi's sometime look like they are better quality, they fade faster over time and start breaking a lot inside. To many time i was confronted with broken armrest, faded buttons, buttons that came off, or seats that ripped and the cars where no more than 5 years old. In the long term, mercedes is much more rigid. The only problem i've seen sometimes are with the c class seats ripping.
Audi all the way. Im also a sucker for that virtual cockpit. But I'd also be happy with the Mercedes. Love the exhaust note.
Get the normal GLC 43 instead of the "coupe" version. Dilemma solved.
Nicholas Smith this is the only version, the c in glc is the "coupe" part even though it has four doors.
loganbain90
No, the "C" in "GLC" is just to reference the C-class sedan, which is the small saloon version of this small suv.

I can’t stand the look of any coupe like SUV. It just reminds of a pear 🍐 fruit and I like my pears👍🏼
The GLC comes in 2 body styles, traditional "suv" and "coupe".
no shit?

Audi
Definetly the SQ5
there is also a glc 43 amg suv. Did you even know that before you even made this video?
Enough about the exhaust on the Audi already, every reviewer has commented on it over and over! enough man, just enjoy the sounds.

Exhaust note coming out of the speakers... LOL! One way to fool yourself.
In the UK the previous model SQ5 was a 3.0 six cylinder DIESEL!!! Only in the face lift have they made the TFSi available.
The Mercedes exhaust tips are also fake. It's not a quad exhaust. It's a dual with 4 tips stuck in the bumper.

3:14 Turbocharged 3 liter what? 3 liter V10? 3 liter V8? 3 liter V6? Don't just leave it open ended. Say how many cylinders are in it.
Maybe the exhaust caps on the Audi are for a tailwind?? Venturi effect?

Audi for me!
The paint on the Audi looks much nicer than the Mercedes.

yes, i like the Audi Drive Select, but for myself, i would rather the Mercedes-Benz.
it is nice, but i prefer the Mercedes.
why review the coupe? why not the standard suv shape?
It's like comparing Apple and a somewhat Apple. I thought you guys would compare with the GLC 43 AMG SUV instead of Coupe body style.
I like that the SQ5 has an adjustable air suspension... Just seems to make sense on any/all SUVs/Crossovers
They both had air suspension. Both adjusted height based on drive mode.
Love this channel, and of course roman and nathan
My choice is Audi for sure.

Idk this is really tough. I've always been biased towards Mercedes but I love the interior of the Audi, it just looks so clean and modern. But I think I'd go with the Mercedes because of the coupe styling.

Henning Vaule Berntsen i agree 100% i hate blank spaces or fake things. Makes the car seem less special and cheap.
the tips on the Mercedes are also fake, just a fact for you
Jaikar Chatha did you watch the video Mr. Fun fact?
3:46
Hasan Al-habbobi fun fact those are still fake. The pipe is a duel pipe but the quad tips aren't real they don't add anything but aesthetics. They look good but don't serve a function
Hasan Al-habbobi like I said it looks good and I understand they protect actual exhaust but the pipes don't actually go into the tips on the back
audi sq5 ftw
Why didn't they use the mercedes glc , the crossover one
Ugh... those white inserts in the seats 💺 on that merc looks like a hassle to keep clean.

Joseph Saric no its not lol x6m is a twin turbo v8
the gle63 is more like x6
Watch out world, these performance crossovers will replace your sport sedan/hatchback.
The shape and That sound of GLC waw !
Audi guy here!
It kinda bears mentioning that you can buy a regular GLC version of the Merc AMG...
Why don't you compare the Audi with the GLC43 SUV instead of the coupe? :|
This guy definitely favours the amg.
He is ok with fake noise on the inside(sounds better but not the real thing)
He isn't ok with fake exhaust tips on the Audi(looks better but isn't the real thing)

2018 X3 M40i is the best. Hands down. No comparison
Can you test the new KIA Stinger please
Will do. Please stay tuned!

Mercedes-AMG GLC43 all the way! MERCEDES-BENZ for life!
Disappointing you used a MB coupe. The regular hatch is available….
Why didn t this guy use the GLCAMG 43 SUV which is much closer to the SQ5
Should've been a GLC 400 but Mercedes decided to put AMG badges all over!
Audi isn't a driver's car. The Mercedes-AMG is. Why didn't they compare the AMG GLC43 SUV. It has more space and headroom and costs less.

Both very good vehicles as to what one its a personal choice....
I own the Benz and an Audi
This is my last Benz. They truly jumped the shark, it’s over for now.
yoo the Audi is the best
BMW X3 M40i>>>
For a high traffic YT car review channel, audio quality of your videos are below average.
SQ5 all the way
Don’t compare it with the MB coupe, compare it with the MB SUV variation.
have no idea why he's comparing apples to oranges here. probably fishing for comments like this.
SQ5 for me any day despite the fake exhaust pipes.
Audi definitely better those taillights are fire
The first generation sq5 is far superior in my opinion, the designer must be straight out of college for the second generation especially when it has come to the wheels and those stupid excuses called blank plates for exhausts!!!! Come on Audi this is a car with an “S” badge for heaven sake if it belongs to the “S” family it needs real exhausts, on that I would vote for the merc
NO RACE???
I don't think Tom Tom was out in 1990, lol. More like the early 2000s
Both are very good.
It’s annoying that the Audi interior material of the Dashboard is made of plastic whereas Mercedes uses leather
Or get the regular glc 43 for more space.
Mercedes and BMW at it again with calling four door vehicles "coupes"...... COUPE = 2 DOORS
I test drove both. Audi is a better car in my opinion. Mercedes seems to be very small inside. SQ5 wins.
Because it is smaller car
The Mercedes interior is a direct rip-off of the Mazda interiors.
Motortrend trend just did this comparo with the Macanudo gts thrown in.. Mercedes-Benz won.. Then porsche, then the Audi.. They did real aggressive drive testing and the Audi wasn't sporty at all
Joel Brand gross.. Showing its Volkswagen roots
how many days in year you drive sporty? these big cars made for comfort...and they called with those AMG,RS tags only to show they can speed up faster then regular version! If you want sport but a real sport car..not a family SUV
Not possible
Come on Roman you cheated ,which one would you buy ?
This Audi Competes with The MB GLC man.. Wrong Video. I love you guys.. Wrong comparison this time.
Should gotten the glc43 not the coupe or instead of the Audi get an x4m60i
