He saved the last empress, he saved Ruyi countless times, he saves her AGAIN from being STABBED, and he tortures both of them. The amount of power and stupidity this emperor has is ridiculous.

She called it out in fear of the snakes, pain in the fire, with happiness in the Kunnaning Palace Gardens, and a whole lifetime of other ways, but right there it was like the chirp of a bird, gently and full of a love she refused to acknowledge. It has a note of her desperately wanting to keep him beside her.
Ling Yunche's love transcends into such a powerful bond with Ruyi that both Wei Yanwan and His Majesty saw that they were each other's "CONFIDANTE" and they were just ENVIOUS and COVENTOUS of their KINSHIP.
Ruyi condemned Hailan for killing Ling Yunche. He was innocent but even if Ruyi had proved the mushrooms poisonous/tainted which the Dowgar Empress later did, the emperor would never have let Long Yunche live in peace. He was going to destroy him one way or another, sooner or later. The emperor was jealous of the fact that Ruyi held any man in high regard other than himself. He refused to acknowledge that he destroyed the regard she had for him by his mistreatment of her. There are many tragic figures in this story but I believe Ling Yunche was the most tragic. He was ordered to befriend and protect Ruyi in the cold palace which ultimately lead to his death. Had Ruyi realized what his fate would become due to her, I believe she would have sent him permanently to the Mulan hunting grounds or somewhere else outside the Forbidden City to protect him. Of course if the emperor thought she was protecting him, his jealousy would have had him zeroed in on him sooner as someone to be destroyed. Ling Yunche never had a chance, just like all the other characters used as pawns by the elite.

This I believe is one of the most heartbreaking episodes in series. Ruyi is alone, guilty, sad, helpless….he was her true friend now gone. Great acting. Cry every time. Music perfect.
It's karma that Yawan's sons died the same night Long Yunche died. She was so set on destroying Yunche because he recognized she was no good and wanted nothing to do with her. She succeeded, but the universe decided to punish her for her acts.
I don't think so the death of her kids had any effects! She was hell bent on destroying ruyi and wanted to be empress and have her eldest son to be crown prince
