Hailan making moves on her own without ruyi is the best character development. She was weak at first but now she's a savage.
Hailan doesnt make her own move. They all planned it together with Ruyi when she found out she only has 3/4 months left. Also with Dowager Empress too thats why the mistress plan to kill Chunchan

I always felt Hailan was in love with Ruyi but understood it wasn’t reciprocated
Chun chan was a good servant to yanwan, she never once complain or held a grudge towards Yanwan despite them coming from the same backgrounds as servants. I can imagine the betrayal. Chun chan would have never betrayed her because they came a long way back but she tried to kill her.

My favorite scene in the whole series , when Hailan tells Wangchan to treasure his life, and he falls to his knees knowing he is the next witness to die by Yanwans hand ....So well played !

Side note whoever incorporates the soundtrack to this series really did a good job

I never cared for Chunchan but I guess she had to obey her mistress. Ling putting that lipstick on her was one of the most pitiful scenes for me. Something about how innocent she looked, not knowing the woman she lied for, even at the threat of death, would do her like that.
Most servants are in with the schemes of their respective mistresses because without irrefutable proof, they cannot expose them or call them out on it. Instead, they would bring punishment (including banishment and even execution) on their own heads for being disloyal and also for defamation.
She must have Learned on what happened to Arou as long as she doesn't have proof, betrayal to your mistress is a big offense she's a maid so her words would count for nothing unless she has proof
At the beginning of this series Hailan looked meek and very timid as a deer towards the end she became a tigeress with a touch of dragon
She finally cracked and wanted revenge after yongqis death. I could tell her personality changed right after. Angry and vengeful
She would have made a formidable Empress.

Hailan , second strong Lead after ruyi. Loved her transformation. In the end she was the senior most and loyal concubine surviving . She looked after the Harem in the end. King lost interest in everything after ruyi .
Ruyi really a legend
Hailan took Ruyi's words to heart, that she had to become strong without Ruyi's protection. The concubines made a fatal error by forcing Hailan to show her teeth. The women also underestimated how extremely intelligent both Hailan and Ruyi actually were. They may have had an inkling as they feared the day Ruyi was released from the Cold palace. Had they been of a mind to scheme for the Emperor's favor, it would have been utter chaos and the concubines wouldn't have seen death until it was sitting down to tea.

I don't think so,, when I watched it I thought Chunchan felt moves because she really believed that her mitress cared for her. She went to collect the flowers after happily. Later when she started feeling sick then she realized what her mitress has done

Lancui died off screen along with the Mongolian consort yu after they tried to frame Ruyi with ling Yunche boots.. lancui was in charge of that frame and when it failed ling left her in prison but had wangchan kill her so she wouldn’t talk

Maids have to keep shut to save their jobs. She did what she was told. It was as such only a part of a work was done by one person. Such as poisonous mushroom, someone got them , next person, third sent to kitchen , next person cooked ,. Someone else gave it 12 prince ruyi son.
So only master knew what was happening.

This! Chunchan wasn’t any better than yanwan. She even had one or two scheming ideas of her own. Had yanwan not betrayed her she would’ve happily continued on harming others. I sincerely hoped it was her turn to get her retribution after yanwan’s death.
Chunchan was eventually executed by the Emperor in the novel.
Always had a feeling that Chun Chan Knew What was Bound to Happen The Min Yanwan Offered to Put Lip Tint On her. Her Face Said it All. It’s Very Sad to Be Betrayed like this. If Yanwan Was very smart about this, she probably would’ve gotten away with it if she just didn’t try to kill her most loyal maid. A maid who knows everything about everything that includes her. It wasn’t a smart move. But she deserves everything she got. I just wish the emperor; who clearly aint shit would’ve gotten his too. I understand he’s all depressed after Ruyi died but I honestly don’t think it’s enough. ESPECIALLY with all the kind loyal loving women who truly were good and did nothing but love him. (Concubine Rong doesn’t count. She didn’t give a shit about him but she did deserve better) 🙄 this whole show had me in an angry chokehold.

Knowing that in real life the harem was disgusting in terms of personal hygiene but actually less of a scheming cess pool is kind of ironic. Everybody wanted favour, yes, but they were also trained to obey the Emperor and Empress implicitly and only the real-life 'Ruyi' was disobedient to the point of cutting her hair. In truth people were killed at the wave of the Emperor's finger so staying alive long enough to have children was the focus. Those hairstyles stayed in for months at a time, people rarely washed and often didn't change their underwear for a long time either. People's kids dropped dead in the street at young ages and it was also impossible to prevent sweeping numbers of deaths from waterborne diseases. So everyone kind of focused on staying alive any way they could!

While this personal maid KNEW of her mistresses wickedness & had even often been her 'hands' in the perpetrated evil, this personal maid (attendant) believed in her heart that she, herself, was the one & only person her mistress would never harm, that she & her mistress shared 'one-heart,' closer than sisters.
After her mistress attempted to murder her, even using her own finger to apply
the poison to the lips of the maid she knew loved her. Only because this maid
lived was she able to see her mistresses true face...otherwise, she would have never believed this could ever be. Ruyi & her team dealt that mistress a killling blow to the head...

いつの時代も勉強や教養って大事なんだなと思う。ヤンワンも元々、どこかの貴族の娘で幼い頃から勉学だの教養だのを教えられてたら、こんな思考にはならなかっただろうし仮に悪だくみが成功したとしても、ここまでひどいことにはならなかったと思うのよ。今でもそうだけどさ、生まれ育った環境って本当に大事だと思う。そう考えると、ヤンワンもある意味「被害者」なんだよなぁ。悪知恵の働く人にそそのかされたりしてさ。まあ、一番のクズは陛下なんだけども(笑)。
