CLEANEST Card Control // BLUFF Pass Tutorial

  • The Bluff Pass is hands down one of my favorite card controls. It may feel risky or bold at first, but after you try it a few times you will realize how convincing this card control really is. It is a sleight that allows you to control a card second from the top, while making it appear to be lost in the middle. In 1928, the move was created by Frederick Montague, who also gave us the term "Bluff Pass". The Bluff Pass, among other moves, was created as as alternative to the pass; an endeavor popular in the 1930s.
    The original source is Westminster Wizardry which was published in 1928. Tommy Tucker later developed refinements to move that more resembled how we see the Bluff Pass today. He published his version of the move in "What Next!" in 1936.

      FIGURED out a good way to make it really look like you took half the cards. If you hold the deck a bit higher off of your palm when you grab the one card you can just drop the deck flat on your palm to make it look like it got smaller @52kards

    Hi Asad, I just wanted to say your tutorials are probably the most professional, clean and easy to follow tutorials on the web. I do however have a request / suggestion. It would be cool if, during the tutorial you showed a clip of yourself using the sleight in a real life situation. I personally I would benefit from seeing how a move is performed for a live audience. Thanks Asad Keep up the good work :)

    Suggestion.. Always show the trick first at normal speed before explaining.. so we don't have to sit thru the full tutorial to find out how what you are showing us.. thanks.

      He usually does but for the bluff pass you need an extra person to preform it.

  • @d_e_a_n

    One thing, unless this is being used to force the second card, you may want to just pull off the top half of the cards where they stopped, and give them the card and then replace the top half, giving them time to look at their card and then ask them to put it back and now do the move bluff. This way too they just suspect you are doing the same movement, which they have gotten used to. Also just a little less time with that one card in your hand.

      Xavier even showed the 'super-bluff pass', where he doesn't even lift the top card; It's the same procedure, but you swing your right hand in towards your chest as if holding the top stock (but your hand is empty), then come back with the right hand and riffle half the deck after the chosen card is replaced on the deck. It works!

    Mr. Mullica adds a variation: he actually cuts the deck in half, and upon having the card returned, instead of adding the upper half to the top of the lower half, he turns the whole deck upside down and adds the upper half to the bottom of the lower half. Now that is bluff!

  • @WaldoWizard
    @WaldoWizard 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I suggest a thumb riffle to ask spect to stop you at any point for his card selection at first to mimick the later on riffle before the false pickup . This way , the spect. is seeing the same handling. And another subtlety, tell spect. to memorize his card just as you openly show them that you're riffling to the center and actually pick up half the pack at an angle so they can literally see the pack , then place it down at the same instance that you now only have thetop card in hand and say " go head, put your card here " ...

    If I had to choose, this would have to be my favorite card control. ESP to control it to the 2nd position - significantly like it more than the marlo tilt. The reason is bc w/ the marlo tilt, no matter how you choose to do it and no matter how convincing, you as the magician are touching their card. So if it comes back to the top, even if the audience has no clue what you did, they figure you did "something." With this move though, the spectator genuinely believes they chose where in the middle the card went - so in the ACR as an i.e., when it comes to the top right after, that alone is an amazing moment. Beautiful Control.
