CLEANEST Card Control // BLUFF Pass Tutorial
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 มิ.ย. 2014
- The Bluff Pass is hands down one of my favorite card controls. It may feel risky or bold at first, but after you try it a few times you will realize how convincing this card control really is. It is a sleight that allows you to control a card second from the top, while making it appear to be lost in the middle. In 1928, the move was created by Frederick Montague, who also gave us the term "Bluff Pass". The Bluff Pass, among other moves, was created as as alternative to the pass; an endeavor popular in the 1930s.
The original source is Westminster Wizardry which was published in 1928. Tommy Tucker later developed refinements to move that more resembled how we see the Bluff Pass today. He published his version of the move in "What Next!" in 1936.

FIGURED out a good way to make it really look like you took half the cards. If you hold the deck a bit higher off of your palm when you grab the one card you can just drop the deck flat on your palm to make it look like it got smaller @52kards
Hi Asad, I just wanted to say your tutorials are probably the most professional, clean and easy to follow tutorials on the web. I do however have a request / suggestion. It would be cool if, during the tutorial you showed a clip of yourself using the sleight in a real life situation. I personally I would benefit from seeing how a move is performed for a live audience. Thanks Asad Keep up the good work :)
Suggestion.. Always show the trick first at normal speed before explaining.. so we don't have to sit thru the full tutorial to find out how what you are showing us.. thanks.
He usually does but for the bluff pass you need an extra person to preform it.
One thing, unless this is being used to force the second card, you may want to just pull off the top half of the cards where they stopped, and give them the card and then replace the top half, giving them time to look at their card and then ask them to put it back and now do the move bluff. This way too they just suspect you are doing the same movement, which they have gotten used to. Also just a little less time with that one card in your hand.
That's a killer tip! Thanks
i like that you film the tutorial in this view! it' s a lot easier to learn than the views in other videos. thanks!
That’s such a nice subtlety to extend the fingers up. I think it’s all the little things that the subconscious pics up that you might not even notice that really makes the difference!!!
every time I watch anyone of your videos, I always learn something new, thanks
I can't believe I actually fooled somebody with this move! Nice tutorial, great teaching. You just got a sub.
Great control, i like it so much.
So cool, I appreciate your lessons, you are the GOAT of teaching card tricks!
Great vid! I love the Bluff Pass. It could be used as a great phase in an ambitious card routine.
Very classy pass , would be awesome to see a live performance of this
Wow - this is REALLY clever, I love it.
I am so happy, i try this control and its works!!! It is revolution!!! So clean!!! I love you man!!!
Daryl used this movie in his ambitious card routine! This is a badass move!!!
When I was watching this I was like "This is never going to work" Then I tested it out on my dad and it worked perfectly! I am abselutly going to use this in the future
Awesome control! Ill have to start using this! Thanks Asad!
Dude, I've watched your pen spins, coin tricks and card tricks, finger exercises, etc...
I still wonder how you know so much stuff. You must be a blaze at parties!
I freaking love his videos! So much that I just uploaded my FIRST flourish tutorial, I am really loving Magic!
I love this it worked for five times in a row
Great control to use for Here Then There. It's easy to do smoothly while they look at their card and puts it second from the top.
Nice video!!! :D
And I really want the Monarch deck, it looks really nice.
Fantastic tutorial sir
I've used this a couple of times now and it works wonderfully. I forgot to move my fingers higher and the spectator didn't even notice the full deck sitting in my hand.
Great deception. Thanks Asad!
Well this is a good idea ! And the tips with the fingers or the litlle part of the deck you take at the end are good convincer...
I'll use it and then I'll remove the first card showing that their card is not on the top.
Thanks a lot
good video! I want to add the subtlety of Roger Klause that he taught me to bevel the front edge of the deck so that it looks thinner from the front.
Wow this is really convincing and it works really well. Just goes to show how easily the lay person can be fooled.
"it just works" best description ever =3 haha but i learn a lot from you man your awesome
Great control
Wow that IS a Bold control.Never seen it before. That's Brilliant. I mostly use the Marlo Tilt, but I'm gonna try this. If this is convincing, and I think it will be on a lot of people. Gonna be nice. tyvm.
Nice tutorial good detail
Man you are great, it works pretty well
Extend fingers! Great tip! Never occurred to me!
That actually works great good vid thanks
Awesome. Thanks.
Learned this from Xavior, amazing i use it all the time
Xavier even showed the 'super-bluff pass', where he doesn't even lift the top card; It's the same procedure, but you swing your right hand in towards your chest as if holding the top stock (but your hand is empty), then come back with the right hand and riffle half the deck after the chosen card is replaced on the deck. It works!
@@daveedmunds4609 yeah its in the same video, i use that one too!
Man the second part of that vid where he does it without out any card is hilarious. It seems to be all about confidence, conviction, and allowing for a little messiness (D. Madisons "dirty b*tch theory" or "Soap theory").
@@lanceseaman88 The best part is that, it actually works, i've done it manny times, its crazy how obvious it is that i'm more important then the cards, my voice is higher then my hands
awesome worked first time for me
Thanks man!!
Very clean :)
I used it and it REALLY works!
Nice man
great vid m8
This would be great to use with two spectators; control the card to the 7th position and then say you want another spectator to select one also, but do the 7th position force. Gonna try this
Cool, can't wait to try this out on someone.
thanx the reminder. a good technique indeed.
That finger extension is legit!
I love this controll so much its da best
That finger subtlety is smart.
really nice trick
I LOVE IT
That's genius. Like the Marlo tilt.
best tutorial for this move yet
Emmanuel Trikilis You haven't seen how Daryl taught this.
ooooh my brain hurts from this. Its such an easy thing to do and it will totally fool anyone. When you showed the riffle at the end I allmost got noseblood and screamed out loud. I am soooooo going to use this one. My god I will enjoy the shit out of every second im doing this=) Small nerdgasm over here
Thanks now I know another control
Very good
Asad is the greatest cardician/teacher on TH-cam!
I actually let them take it out by riffling down and then when they say stop,I ask them to take the card and while they're taking it out and memorizing, I just drop the rest of the cards except the last card and ask them to put it back in the middle and slap that first card on it.
amazing better than what i learned
Great tutorial, thank you! Off topic question...I see a lot of magicians with a ring on thier index finger as you have. I'm very new to card magic and magic in general...Is there something to that or just a coincidence that many magicians like to wear rings on thier index finger? Just curious...
Thanks again...
Thank you!
And you can do the dribble without reaching that half ot the deck... You just lift that half with your left thumb, like Shirley A cut...
we are so easily fooled!!! I bet you could even say "here is where i'm fooling you; put your card in; here is where I fool you again." and probably still get away with it.
so sad and so true 😂
Hey Asad, for contest giveaways next time can you post a video on who wins or put it in the description or the comments section below? Thanks!
Great!
You have a lot of card controls like this one, but can you give me some ideas for a reveal? Your tutorials are very good.
I think Brad Christian mentions dropping the deck in the palm so fingers extend more above the deck in one of his DVDs from Ellusionist.
very good
I WISH I Can like it twice, thanks
Fucking best video I have ever seen! Keep it up brotha! So proud of this channel! Keep those videos coming!!!
Best magic around asad
Mr. Mullica adds a variation: he actually cuts the deck in half, and upon having the card returned, instead of adding the upper half to the top of the lower half, he turns the whole deck upside down and adds the upper half to the bottom of the lower half. Now that is bluff!
I suggest a thumb riffle to ask spect to stop you at any point for his card selection at first to mimick the later on riffle before the false pickup . This way , the spect. is seeing the same handling. And another subtlety, tell spect. to memorize his card just as you openly show them that you're riffling to the center and actually pick up half the pack at an angle so they can literally see the pack , then place it down at the same instance that you now only have thetop card in hand and say " go head, put your card here " ...
Good move
The rpm control is my personal favorite
If I had to choose, this would have to be my favorite card control. ESP to control it to the 2nd position - significantly like it more than the marlo tilt. The reason is bc w/ the marlo tilt, no matter how you choose to do it and no matter how convincing, you as the magician are touching their card. So if it comes back to the top, even if the audience has no clue what you did, they figure you did "something." With this move though, the spectator genuinely believes they chose where in the middle the card went - so in the ACR as an i.e., when it comes to the top right after, that alone is an amazing moment. Beautiful Control.
O
MT is highly deceptive Vernon fooled Houdini w it 3 times😂
First time I saw this trick was with Wayne Houchin! ^^
favourite video
Interesting! I still prefer Marlo, its good when do some tricks for my kids or in rooms with less lights.
Impressive
I knew this control but is the best, its sooo fucking good and you can do it easily!
oh my god this is perfect for the biddle trick.
I have used this move for many years, 40 plus, and it is a gem. Never even close to being seen.
Ellusionist suggested that you bend/buckle the top card in your right hand slightly, to create illusion of having
half deck in your hand... I loke this one and side steal.... Cheers
Now that I know how it works I'm shocked to realize how often I've seen this move before but didn't notice what the magician was actually doing 😂
Hey Asad, I've always wondered where i can buy that mat thing you use to spread the cards around (the green mat in the video).
I thought it easy and it is easy and it's pretty convincing
Nice
new to this channel and card handling as well! just a quick question, what type of cards are best for handling, plastic or paper? thanks
I actually thought he picked up half the deck at 1:30
Same 😂
nice video! :) btw could you tell me where did you buy the mat??
This is part of the Now you see me game on Kik.
You are the best teacher ever!! I rarely get things this fast! Respect!!!
Supper bro
Haha i like this smart bluff. Great job. Keep uploading
@Thuraya Taha, yes, I do this without a pinky break as well, do whatever is comfortable for you.
Thank u
Where is this close up pad from,
It looks great!
I use to do this move when I first started magic but I never added in the small things that makes the move look more realistic
Loool for some reason 2:42 activates my Siri on my Iphone trough "Hey Siri" function hahahaha
That happened to me too.
I didn't know anyone else knew about that.
Hey Asad, if you really like this control I would suggest you take a look at Aaron Fisher's Nowhere Pass. You will love it! :)
i just did a quick internet search about the nowhere pass and it seems epic. Magicians will probably have some ideas as to what is going on but an audience would not.
Hey Assad, can you do a video of this move from the front? I can't seem to get it right, and i need to have a front shot to figure out what i am doing wrong. ThanKyOuououou
I like this
