There has been increased sibling aggression of the oldest golden eaglet to the youngest for the past few days. This morning, eaglet #1 began its attack upon eaglet #2 as soon as Lucina left the nest for a break. It seemed that a light bulb moment went on inside the oldest eaglet today to do away with its younger sibling. I did not cover it in its entirety for this video due to the length of time it went on. On Lucina's third time away from the nest, the oldest chick inflicted serious injury on the youngest drawing blood and a large wound on its back. Lucina returned 50 minutes later and immediately grabbed the eaglet with her beak like she was picking up prey and she stood on it. The youngest eaglet's fate was sealed. What eaglet #1 started in cainism, Lucina finished in parental infanticide of the chick - feeding it alive to the other eaglet.
It was a very disturbing turn of events to witness - and even though the first hatch of the Golden Eagles are known to practice Cainism of the second chick on a fairly common basis (but not always), it is pretty rare to see parental infanticide take place like we saw with Lucina. Food shortages seem to precipitate more sibling aggression. Parental infanticide could be linked with making sure of the survival of the oldest eaglet. It also could be that Lucina saw that the youngest eaglet was severely wounded, exhausted & weak with no chance of survival and her apex raptor instincts kicked in at that point. I will say that this was very upsetting to watch and I am sure most of the viewers of this nest feel the same way. Even understanding the way nature works does not lessen the impact it has on our tender hearts. RIP little chick - soar high & free now. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for sharing.
💔🐥🪽❣️
I honestly had no idea that cainism was common for golden eagles. I made many lazy assumptions that they were just like bald eagles. I did not watch this video but thank you for putting it together and also for heartfelt explanation.
Same here...soar high, sweet eaglet...❤😢

I couldn’t watch this video, reading your description was enough for me, Thank you, Ladyhawk.
I could not watch either. 💔💔💔😩

I watched this earlier at the live stream (as much as I could before I had to turn away), and it was truly heartbreaking. I am relived the little one is suffering no more. Thank you for your lovely words Lady Hawk. I know this is nature but sometimes it's a hard pill to swallow.
Now, all of you who think eagles have human emotions realize they don't. Humans do not eat their young alive! These are animals. They have no compassion or love.
Oh man, that's so sad.
So sad.😢😢
As predicted for a lot us, I cannot watch this. I’m here just to say that. Poor little angel. Nature can be so awful sometimes. 😢
It is not an angel. It was an animal. Now, all of you who think eagles have human emotions realize they don't. Humans do not eat their young alive! These are animals. They have no compassion or love.
@@BillGraysons I realize everything that you were saying. It’s only an expression. I have never put human emotions on animals. I love animals, therefore I use human expressions, Bill Graysons. you think you’re teaching some I don’t already know? It’s a way of expressing sadness that this happened. I’m not a rock. I have emotions.
@CissyBrazil No kidding! We have emotions.Animals don't love or feel sad, etc. They feel physical pain. That's it !
@@BillGraysonswow for one, stop spamming with the same comment. two, show us on the animal doll where the animal touched you? Seriously, no one here will judge you. ❤️🙏🏻
@@rydndrtyllama Animal doll? What????
too be honest that eaglet didnt stand a chance and would have suffered bad no torment and pain anymore rip little one
Dear Lady your commentary says it all 💔 It's is unbelievable what Lucina did to seal #2 fate 😭 Even when we understand how the nature works what happened in this nest is beyond comprehension and explanation how the nature works 🛑 Cruel and brutal . These images will be haunting me for a long time 😢 😭 Poor wee little #2 RIP and fly high in a better place 🌈 🕊️ Dear Lady Hawk I hug and hold you tight to my heart my friend ❤ 💕 🕊️ 🤍 🌿🤗
Rip eaglet 2
😭 💔
So very sad 😔 As always, Lady Hawk, thank you for your detailed explanation. I came across this nest totally by accident when Eaglet 1 hatched and thought it might be a nest to follow as I've never seen a Golden Eagle before, let alone raise their Eaglets.
Something seemed a little off from the very beginning as there didn't seem to be much food for the babies and parent(s) were away alot.
So sorry this happened. ❤
Hello amazing Lady Hawk 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Lady Hawk for presenting this happening in the most balanced way. Let’s hope eaglet 1 will fledge and have a successful life.
I was watching live when this happened and was heartbroken for Chick 2 so much so that I cant watch this nest anymore at least not this season. Then to make matters worse my favorite little osprey Chick at Lake Murray was taken by a GHO in the middle of the night 😢 I might have to take a break from nest watching for a while.
What a sad outcome for this poor baby😢
RIP precious one,you didn't have a chance to survive !
Older sibling is attacking her/him and Mom took her for food😢
Hopefully life will be better for the only sibling..I do pray for this family 🙏🏻
Thanks Lady Hawk for sharing..hugs and blessings to you always❤
Hello Dear friend Kawaii Pack 😇💞💟 A very sad outcome indeed 😢, The pain and Attack was Horrific 💔😪 Thankyou always for your comments and presence Dear friend 💜💫❤, let's hope things turns out better for the remaining chick ❤Have a wonderful day be well and safe, My best Regards 😇🤗💫🐥❤🙏
Now, all of you who think eagles have human emotions realize they don't. Humans do not eat their young alive! These are animals. They have no compassion or love.
Isn’t the male missing from this nest
Love your comment Kawaii, 🧡Heartbreaking tho but that's how nature works!
Hoping they can get food for this aggressive sibling and he/ she may thrive and fledge🎉
See you later!🧡
Precious one? It's an animal! They behave like animals. The mother ate her baby!!
omg! I am never gonna understand a parent of any bird species to want to kill their baby and then feed it to their other babies. I have learned that it happens on a White Storks nest in another Country and it is so sad too. God bless this baby and may you fly and be free of pain and suffering too.🙏🪽😢😞🦅❤️🤔❌⭕️
💔poor little thing.
😢😢😢😢
Thanks for warning.
I understand that this happens.
The laws of nature are like that too. My heart doesn't accept that
I am too sensitive.
I am sad😢
Yep they do that sometimes. Cruel world. No I'm not watching. In most cases the youngest don't stand a chance. It may make it to get out of the nest and things may look ok but it's so malnourished it just doesn't make it. I'm talking Bald Eagles too not just Golden Eagles
😢💔. RIP little one.
I can't watch this one Lady Hawk. Thank you for the warning. I knew that Cainism is common practice for Golden Eagles, so I was half expecting it, but do not want to watch it happening. I'm a real softy when it comes to injured animals of all kinds. I don't hold it against them though because this is "in their nature"
I can't watch this! I follow this nest, but will probably no longer follow because this happened. I know it's nature, and it's due to food shortages, but to think that Lucina fed her youngest to her oldest has me not wanting to watch anymore.💔😢
I actually saw the attack on live at this same time I was watching it. I knew that the poor chick didn't have a chance at survival and yes there is a major food shortage here I saw the live earlier today and it still looked as if there is no food on the nest.
Они каждый год убивают младшего в этом гнезде. 😢
Do they just not have enough food?
Food was plentiful at the time of the hatchings but since slowed considerably.
@@ladyhawk have you ever known any eagle or bird in general to eat it's own young if they couldn't find enough food for themselves and the chick?
I will not watch. Thank you for the disclaimer and in-depth coverage. Very sad news 😭 Rest in peace little one 🐥🌈👼💖
It is always a question of consistent food supply. Chick #2 was mighty, fought until the end, but unfortunately had too much against it. Soar high on Angels wings, precious little one. Callman and Lucina are great. Parents and food just was not available in quantity. Thank you so much l Lady Hawk 🦅🎁🙏
😢 I'm so sorry about the little one 😢 I didn't even know that this happens. Fly high in heaven sweet angel ❤
Gotta love the nature.
This is not uncommon in raptors...it's a harsh reality in their survival.
Correct - siblicide is not uncommon but parental infanticide is pretty rare even for the Golden Eagles.
I never understand this-
Don't watch stork nests then
I prefer not to see it, what happened is horrible. totally cruel
Not cruel, it's nature
I remember watching another nest once- ravens did the same thing to young osprey chicks
Seems like the same outcome for the golden eagles for the last 3 years or a hawk swoops in and takes the chicks.
Eaglet #1: "Thank god, mom's home!"
Eaglet #2: "Thank god, mom's home!"
💔🌈😢
Your comment on lack of for and survival of remaining chick is most likely true. And yes very hard to watch,- life in the wild.
Bald eagles don't do this, right?
le coucou a fait un mauvais présage.. 🐦😮😢💔🌈🕊️💚
I don't understand why people should be watching these tragedies of the wild. Better to leave them in peace!! Life is so hard out there...there should be no cam at all, especially this one no new at these events... I find this to be a shame...it is also no use for educational purpose as what implies is that the strongest always wins with all the due consequences...☹️💔
Many will disagree. These cams are very educational and more than often, necessary for many reasons.
@@rydndrtyllama Not this one at least...
