This man is just amazing.. . Since 1947, he's been doing this!!! Holy cow, Those TV show and movie vehicles are really something else... He just keeps going....Talent beyond belief.... He is now (Sept 2022) 95 years young, and he's still active in this.... Just an amazing person who really found his calling in his early years , and stayed with it....
Gene is the REAL DEAL..!! He built so many custom cars and rods. I met him in 1986 at the Turlock Show. He purchased some used auto parts from me and invited me to see his shop and collection
I worked for Gene many years ago when his shop was in Canoga Park. Money was tight. Work was plentiful. We started work early and worked late into the night. He didn't smoke or drink. I wish I could have worked with him longer.
20 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with MR Winfield at the Portland roadster. show. most people of his notoriety would have been a bit arrogant. but not Gene. He was a gentleman and always excited about cars and always open to questions. what a true humble man.
I used to hang out at Gene's Custom Shop across the street from Modesto Junior College In the 50s-60s. My mother would ask "Where have you been all day?" He had cars coming and going so fast every visit was seeing something different. What a legend this guy is and will always be.
A few years back I got to share a vendor's table with Gene at a Star Trek Convention in Vegas. He was selling various photos of the Galileo Seven Shuttle Craft and the Reactor. I got to look through his scrap book and talk cars with him all day.
Sci-Fi vehicles like the Star Car from The Last Starfighter and the police spinners from Blade Runner, and hot rods! Is there anything Gene can't do? All that coachwork is incredible!
I worked with my dad when he was building prototype cars for the Blade Runner Movie when i was in hi school. I can remember seeing the Back to the future Delorian in the corner there. It was pretty cool working with all of the Great Customizers of the 60s 70s 80s.
Gene Winfield wrote one of the first documentary books of television production in "The Making of Star Trek" in 1967. I still have my copy from the early 1970s.
Gene also built the "Jade Idol" and it belongs to a friend of mine up in Portland Oregon. This same friend (Tim) also owns a George Barris Custom that I used to own.....Ron Seaton's '55 Chevy Hardtop which was customized in 1959.
I'll never understand the logic of putting loud, crappy music in car videos, or videos were someone does a lot of talking. It's very distracting. If I want to hear music, I'll turn on my stereo.
@@hotrodray6802 Just like "beauty"...it's in the eyes of the beholder. "Good" to one person is not necessarily good to some others. Barris and the others like him were artists in their own right.
When I was about 14 years old, a few decades back, my older sister and her family lived in Modesto, CA. Her husband was going to college to be a phys-ed teacher (and cheating on my sister at the same, as I would learn later). He took me after his classes one day to see Gene Winfield’s shop in Modesto, which I think is where he got started. I think the building had a custom Mercury in the front window and he just walked in to the shop area, and started looking at the stuff. Turns out, he hadn’t asked anyone if he could visit with a teenage relative but he did know the brother of a guy in school. We stayed maybe 20 minutes and there really wasn’t lots to see. Winfield wasn’t there and no one seemed to care that we were. I didn’t see much that I remember except for the Mercury and I remember that the next month or so, I saw a new issue of Rod & Custom Magazine at the store and it had that car on the cover. I talked my mom into buying it for me, maybe 25Cents at that time. I’ve always been interested in his work although the stuff in this video is kind of marginally interesting !
If I had the money I would love to have the Reactor because of it's TV history, Batman, Star Trek, and of course Bewitched!! If anything, I'd be repeating some of the script from Bewitched, "better take off your shoes you're high heels will ruin the carpet, I'm not wearing high heels.Larry will flip when he sees this car. It was a gift from my mother-in- law and I had to keep peace in the family!!"
Funny, I know guys my age and younger complaining how they are "getting older" and it's harder to work on cars. I work on cars more now than in my 20s and 30s. I haven't slowed down one bit in my 50s and hope to be like Gene. I have not lost one bit of interest in cars or restorations, while some guys my age look like they could be my dad!
This is so weird, I randomly watched this video last night and when I turned on the tv this morning it was on the Logo channel (from daughter watching last night), the episode of bewitched was on with the car Gene built. I haven't seen bewitched in 25 years.
And if that was followed by the episode of Batman that had the Reactor in it ( the Reactor appeared as the "Catmobile", and it was driven by Eartha Kitt ) that would be mind blowing.
Very cool! Anyone know where the Last Starfighter car resides today? I've always wanted to see it in person. I heard a rumor that it was found in France, but I don't know if it's true.
Dennis Gage you are a wonder in your own right .How lucky you are to show us all this super NEAT vehicles. 😇

You’re so lucky to be able to meet people like this legend
This Legend has taught legends that have taught Legends. Mr. Winfield you one of the car gods in my book sir.
I agree! Movies and real life autos, The man isnt a legend but a GOD in the car world.

I did meet Gene in Graz ,Austria 2018, A 40 years old dream come true. An amazing man.
It's impossible to think about the amount of skill, creativity, and the thousands of hours that go into these things all at the same time.
Are you talking about the ridiculous moustache?
This guy is a living legend and an artist, and has inspired many with his original creations.
I met Gene at the Syracuse Nationals 2019. All I can say is wow! He's a living legend and such a nice guy. He even signed my Rat Fink T Shirt!
I worked for Gene when his shop was in Canoga Park. Good boss.
Gene is now 92... What a guy! what a life! Happy B'day Gene on the 16th!
Amazing vehicles. Videos like this are what make your channel so popular. Thanks Dennis!

met Gene and George Barris at world of wheels Winnipeg!
That must have been a real treat.

This guy just keeps moving forward . He truly sets a strong example .

I'm thinking "Dudes been chopping these cars since they were new... Legend" and THEN he starts talking about all the movies he's done? Double Legend.
Man, I used to love watching this show during the weekends on SPEED , what a throwback
he is far more then just a hot rodder,, a true craftsman and artist,,
What a mind Gene Winfield has, true Renaissance man.
What a cool guy. He's a true craftsman with a good eye for color and lines. Very innovative.
this was filmed in 2007 so gene was 80 yrs old in this video, born in 1927, just amazing
I worked with my dad when he was building prototype cars for the Blade Runner Movie when i was in hi school. I can remember seeing the Back to the future Delorian in the corner there. It was pretty cool working with all of the Great Customizers of the 60s 70s 80s.
Wow, he looks n moves great for his age . The love of cars kept him youthful
Gene is the absolute car guru ,, it's amazing how young he looks , looks like he's 55 maybe ...
good guys rod and custom is one of the best car shows ive been to, glad to see the sticker on the thing
Gene Winfield wrote one of the first documentary books of television production in "The Making of Star Trek" in 1967. I still have my copy from the early 1970s.
I had that book too-gene wrote it??? Damm
Worked for Gene in Modesto, California. Tully road shop, while attending Modesto Junior College...
excellent episode Dennis Gene is a total Guru of the car world ! i was hoping you were going to put the old bus in as well
What a genius! I wasn't familiar with him till now! And a gentleman!

This Guy is unreal!!! What a Life well lived! Wonder what the neighbors think?!? Wish I was one..
A legend. Still trick af.
I took a 2 week class at Genes shop around 16 years ago and learned what being a master was all about....
Man oh man I love what this guy creates
Great video thank you for sharing
Gene and Darryl Starbird...owned the 60's. On the cover of HOT ROD, CUSTOM CARS..a jillion times.
Wow, thanks for a nice special video!
When I grow up I wanna be like Gene I'm 53.
He's a legend for good reason
Artist, engineer, kind man, legend!
Thank you. Flowers in the desert.
Can't tell what Gene's saying half the time because of the music. Trust me, music interferes with so many videos during videos on You Tube.
I'll never understand the logic of putting loud, crappy music in car videos, or videos were someone does a lot of talking. It's very distracting. If I want to hear music, I'll turn on my stereo.
scary movies same duh duh duh duh scream
The only interference is your ignorance. Music conveys emotion 99% of professional media uses it, trust me you are the ignorant 1%
Jeff , I agree, where did this notion come from that you have to play crappy loud music during videos????
@Michael Aldredge-Greenwell Try Rabbits used cars intro... lord I can't be the only one that mutes till he starts talking!
I first met Gene Winfield in 2013 he is the salt of the earth it's fitting you found a big chunk of salt in his hot rod God bless new Gene
My 2 favorites as a kid were Gene Winfield and Ed Roth aka "Rat Fink."
Don't forget George Barris....
the good barris stuff anyway

Gene is a national treasure
These are great ideals. Nice job.
Such a Legend!!!!!
what a practical designer! nice vid!
A great car builder and his historic cars
Gene is the man!
Gene Winfield is absolutely amazing for any age person, but I sure would like to know where his fountain of youth is located.
When I was about 14 years old, a few decades back, my older sister and her family lived in Modesto, CA. I wish I looked that good at 90!!
Mr Winfields is an artist for sure, I do not like American stuff but his work is fantastic!
Biggus Dickus should remember, We Americans don't need you around anyhow
(Stupid disco-muzak at 13:20 is totally not needed. A 427 makes all the music ya need. ) Great, great cars from one of the all-time great builders.
Gene will treat you like long friend the first time you meet him
Full blown documentary is needed for posterity
All I can say is WOW!

met him at Syracuse very nice guy..
Love the reactor!
What about two of his ‘60s customs, the Jade Idol and the Solar Scene? Are they still extant?
I love these multiple car videos. Is it possible to just add "multiple vehicles" add to the titles that have lots of cars in them? Or "collage"etc?

1949 dragster, a real pioneer
Before cyberpunk there was Gene Winfield
Wow bladerunner - Shuttle for Startrek - BTTF - 6.06 love the Maybaline ?
How long is that Caddy? about 36 feet? Great video!
Wow, absolute legend.
OK Dennis when do we get to see your classic car ?
All my cars and motorcycles are twenty-footers. From 20 feet away, they look pretty good. But they sure are fun to drive/ride!
@@MyClassicCarTV LOL mine are 50 footers but they do give lots of pleasure . thanx I always tune to your show

that 427 sounds AWESOME

He also made the 6000SUX from RoboCop. Bummed we did see pics of it.
A priceless car and he lens on it, classy.
I would love to go see them and own them if he allows.
He looks the same now as in 1948!!!
