Good morning. I myself feel happy and lucky on seeing the original hp amplifier (with the mini circuits in it) and the 0-120 dB step attenuator (apart from the 1dB ones) for $20+20. It's a great buy. The 2N3055 NPN Si pass transistor in the 12v linear regulated power supply can pass more than 3-5 amps, I am sure As you said it's all original factory build (unmodified) with all the miniature rigid coaxial cable with the "perfect bends" made precisely at the factory. Congratulations. They deserve to be treated well and maintained in your shack for a very long time.. Thanks for the share.
RF engineer's fidget spinner . . . spin the attenuator dial all day enjoying the clicks. Probably shorten it's life but it is HP engineered magnificence ;-)
None of those step attenuator knobs look original to me, though I might have just not seen their specific vintage before. In my experience they have a grey plastic knob rather than black plastic and metal.
Yes it was tragic. Keysight is still making great products. too bad they don't have the HP label I thought the HP name should have stayed with the instruments and the computer stuff get a new name.

If anything the enclosures are useful for other projects
Wow I didn't expect the 8591 to have 120dB of range!
she's a beauty. at 30Hz RBW it goes down to -130dBm !
Good score !

Tragic how a brand name once known for excellence has been splintered and sold off so as to be almost unrecognisable in todays market. RIP the real HP
