    Metallica is probably more popular today... but Priest is easily the bigger band in metal. The whole Leather and studs fashion in metal came from the singer Rob Halford.
    When he came out as a gay man the whole metal community replied with a resounding "Lol, you thought we didnt know?" Then went back into headbanging

      It was really a "Surprised Pikachu" moment before the meme existed. The biggest question at the time (my mom told me because I was like 2 at the time) was would he perish like Mr. Mercury did. No one, not once, ever questioned his sexual preference. Kerry King even said something to the effect "Does the dick change who you are or what you mean to these people? If not, then who fucking cares."

      The way he came out was funny as hell! In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine. The interviewer was famous for asking every interviewee "If you could have sex with any famous person in the world, who would it be?" Halford didn't miss a beat and said "HOWIE LONG" (famous football player and sportscaster)! The interviewer about fell out of the chair because Halford had never before publicly admitted to being gay.

    You're gonna have to do A LOT of Priest reactions....
    The earliest I know Priest is 1975......they're music was a lot different than Painkiller.
    JP actually has many different stages and variations of their type of music.....
    Their heyday was the 80's (meaning commercially successful)…..and their 80's shit is great...
    So is their 70's stuff....
    And then comes the album Painkiller....
    Every song on this album is worthy of a reaction.....

    Some of the greatest bands of all time in both rock and heavy metal are from england, ozzy, motorhead, judas priest, iron maiden, diamond head, deep purple, pink floyd, led zeppelin, rolling stones etc etc.. But there hasn't been too many bands lately from england in the heavy metal scene that have made a big impact like the bands i mentioned. 80's and 90's a lot of american bands came to the rise.. we got thrash metal, anthrax, metallica, testament, dark angel, megadeth.. we got death metal, cannibal corpse, obituary, death..even canada (where im from) brought in some big bands during 80's and 90's... right now metal is in an awkward stage, there isn't too many heavy metal bands making an impact.. a lot of whats popular is this new "metal" that people are listening to, deathcore and post hardcore and that sort of stuff.

    Pretty much every song on this album is high energy in-your-face power metal/speed/thrash metal with few exceptions. A 10/10 album in my book for sure. One of the best albums of the era for this genre.
    Am glad ya felt this one.. it means you will like the majority of what you hear in the future
    Peace

    Great reaction once again. There's a reason Judas Priest are called metal gods. Some more great songs by them.
    The Sentinel, Battle Cry, The Green Manalishi ( with the two pronged crown ), The Hellion followed by Electric Eye, Victim of Changes and Beyond the Realms of Death. Also Out in the Cold and Blood Red Skies.

    I love all these reactions nowadays especially people coming around to rock and heavy metal which for most of my life that’s all I listen to I went through my country and wrap stages but grew out of it and went back to my roots. Cool how people are trying to break down the songs meaning and stuff but really who gives a shit it’s the music in the feeling you get from the instruments in the vocals that makes us love metal

    Priest were sort of "forgotten", their star was sinking, a new generation of metal bands was about to take over - and then Judas Priest dropped maybe the album of the century when it comes to metal. And kicked everybody's ass and showed the new generation how it's done. The drummer here is Scott Travis and this was his Judas Priest debut. Can you imagine a better way to introduce a new drummer? That machine gun intro gets everybody's attention immediately and Painkiller is the album's first track. So this is literally how Scott introduced himself. And yes, it's Scott Travis, not Travis Scott ;) BTW. Priest have dropped an album in 2018 that many see as the metal album of the year. Their first album came out in 1974. It's just insane.

      Howcome nobody ever talks about the drum part at the end of the song...i mean scott ran a whole steam engine there....amazing amazing track. Pure metal perfection! ❤

    • @saschaschneider6355
      @saschaschneider6355 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@koihaiavailable probably because Rob Halford holding the note over 20 seconds is so damn distracting ;) But yes, Scott Travis' drumming is the star in this song. It's one reason why I vastly prefer the original over e.G. Death's version: No cover version ever came close to Priest when it came to drumming. Hard and fast af, every beat sounds like a freaking gun shot

    • @koihaiavailable

      @@saschaschneider6355 Ah yes that...but then literally every freaking second of this track is simply epic in my opinion 🤪
      Btw do check out blackbird by alterbridge if you havent already...myles kennedy does a similar type of thing holding a note....not sure but i think its some kind of record...

    • @saschaschneider6355
      @saschaschneider6355 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@koihaiavailable I hadn't so I've just listened to it and I haven't found any note that came even remotely close to what Rob does at the end of Painkiller. Bruce Dickinson on the other hand does something similar at the beginning of Hallowed Be Thy Name - but that's at the start of the song and not after having sung a complete tour de force like Painkiller.
      And yes, Painkiller is epic in every regard. Incredible song - it has to be if it was able to outshine Priest's career of over 25 years at that point

    Another awesome reaction. I was born in 1969 and so many artists and world changing events were happening that year. I’ll be 50 on the 27th of this month and I am riding with you on this journey. Your energy and appreciation for the music I grew up with and the newer music of today. I listen to everything and it keeps me grounded and determined to appreciate everything for what it has to offer. I’m still gonna ask you to check out Stevie Ray Vaughn on Texas Flood live at el macombo. If you like guitarist on the next level you’ll love this. 👍👍👍👍
