When the two arms and claws fell off of the "picture perfect blue crab" I lost it. 🦀
Same here. I could be wrong but I think I recall a video where Luke explained that crabs can detach their claws to try to escape a predator. Then they grow back. I wonder if that crab felt like " Oh sh*t this giant is going to kill. Activate claw detachment mode, then run😅" or if it was because he was so soft from literally just molting that the claws fell off from the body weight of picking up the crab. 🦀

Had my first soft shell crab sandwich in 1985. We were on a family vacation, inner harbor Baltimore. All these years later and it is still one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Hello Brad I enjoyed this video but I wanted to let you know you can eat that whole blue crab face on and dead man fingers in it you don't need to clean it I know it's a personal preference but the soft crab is at its purest and cleanest moment as it is in the molting process. If I fryed you up a blue crab you wouldn't know any difference other than you can see the face on it. Please let your viewers know it's completely safe to eat the blue crab with the dead man fingers in it and the face and Eyeball still attached. My grandmother was born in 1911 and as a young boy my grandmother would cook the whole family soft crabs and we would eat them every summer during the 80s and early 90s and my grandmother is from Maryland just across the river in Prince Frederick MD. But overall you have a great video and you sure do know how to cook God bless you and tell old Captain Luke we said hello.

As a Chesapeake native the most Maryland thing about this is the fly on the bread cooked in a rigged up kitchen on the water. Maryland has this wierd mix of south and north that only people in maryland understand. Most people see Baltimore and think its the whole state, the eastern shore (the right side of MD) is like 90% farm.

I want this. All I can get for soft crab here really is from sushi joints in a spider roll. This gives me some confidence to buy some frozen crabs to make at home. They’re not cheap!

I did my culinary school internship in '95 at Citrus in Hollywood and they had a soft shell crab dish on the menu. My dad would wait up until I got home around midnight to feast on the leftovers that I'd bring home which usually included soft shell crabs. Good return on investment.

If you haven't had soft-shell crabs on the grill, "you ain't no crabber"...Just put some horseradish under the flaps and some oil or melted butter on them and throw them on the grill for some crispy goodness...You can put some wood chips on the fire as well for some smokiness.
