As a professional artist in the games industry, no big game company cares about what you use if youre a 3d environment artist.

It can definitely be a big player that's for sure and I am fan of competition because it brings innovation do hopefully this pushes other 3D softwares to do awesome things as well

IMHO. If you're a beginner, start with Blender for 3D. It's great for learning animation, modeling, lighting, etc. Your skills will improve, and later, you can explore more standardized tools without worrying about the artistic aspect. Studios often provide training programs, and if your skills are solid, the software you use becomes less crucial. It's an advantage, but expertise matters more.

The main thing about Blender is that it's free, that's it. If we put a price on it, it loses some of its appeal. We all love free things, but let's think for a moment about the people who put effort into developing each tool - they should earn something. Nevertheless, I'm not saying it's a bad tool. I've used both Maya and Blender, and both are very good. Although I still slightly prefer Maya. What's true is that Autodesk should change the game a bit when it comes to pricing, as millions of users complain about its cost. It's the same case with Unreal, which is also very powerful. The first word users mention about it is "FREE," and then all the other aspects follow. This is where companies should aim for a broader audience since not everyone has a lot of dollars for a license. It should be much more accessible if they want to compete with free software.

If that was the case, Blender would have been always popular. However veteran people in the industry (esp gaming industry) have switched over to Blender. I personally prefer it because if its speed and visual feedback

you are saying developers or blender dont earn nothing? Man, they are paid for developing the software xD, it's a company of 40 ppl with more users working remotely

My friend all gaming engines are nearly free. You have to pay then a percentage of ur game etc once it reaches a specific turnout.

Honestly, I think they’ll end up both being used together by many artists. I don’t see Blender phasing out Maya completely any time soon and I don’t see it slowing down it’s adoption either. I think there will be tasks artists will prefer in Blender and they’ll do that then ship it out to Maya to do tasks they prefer to do in Maya. Similar to how Substance and Mari is. Many texture artists (more so film than games) use the features they like of one then bounce to the other. I think until people who were raised on Blender open up a studios I don’t see Blender becoming the main DCC within the industry.

It is definitely a strong software and there are a lot of production houses that uses it however I have seen it become more of a niche pick in the last couple of years.
Its definitely on the top 5 of 3d softwares for entertainment along with Maya, Houdini, C4D and Blender I would say

Beyond the issue of being industry standard, I'm just wondering if maya has any features that make it worth the price tag, compared to blender.
If it be God's will, I want to make anime with 3d software, and maya has that pencil+4 addon, used in movies like dragon ball super: superhero. That's a pretty solid point in maya's favor.

as long as I know, Maya has Ziva for realistic muscle system. Blender has X-muscle but it's not easy to use. also Maya x-gen is better than blender's hair system.
but if you just want to make stylized models, blender is enough

@@christophemortier5878use maya for 4-5 years then you will understand how well it is structured. There is no point in being superficial about it, you wont get any answers this way.
Maya gives you a more indepth control of what you are making.

I'd say learn Blender for beginners. Blender is pretty good to start getting into as it is free but it also has a lot of built-in tools to help you get into things. Maya, whilst industry standard, does take a bit more work and it's probably easier to adjust from learning Blender to go to Maya than it is learning Maya than going to Blender as you're losing options rather than adding especially without plug ins.

I agree that the price is a steep entry point. Maya does have the Idie license and it is way cheaper , but blender being free is a huge point on favor it.
One thing that I often recommend is making sure that the industry or studio you want to join has a blender pipeline. If they do then blender is the clear winner

I started out in Blender just making Lightsabers ten years back as a hobby. I have, quite frankly, refused to move to Maya as I love my work flows and ease of use with Blender. I only make 3d models, and the like, so the company I work for now don't care thankfully - Just as long as things are modeled fine and exported correctly they are as happy as larry!

Blender started life as a prunny software with a niche and quirky controls... Nowdays Blender is a BEHEMOTH , no Seriously... Blender is literally wiping the floor with Autodesk as a whole in terms of features.
