@Jelly, Right! Just off the hook. I had like 3, "wait?! what?" rewinds just in the intro. Then Faruk followed that up with his usual data tests that break it all down. Fantastic.
I have other tests that I didn't include in the video such as heat and throttling.
Just like M1 Ultra Mac Studio, M2 Ultra Mac Studio didn't suffer from any heat or throttling.
I have another video about M2 Ultra I'm working on it is going to be included in that.
You did so many tests! It’s still hard for me to accept the fastest Mac is so small
It took me so long, I did all of the tests and I did them twice to make sure there is no mistake.
I also realized that the updates made the older models either render faster or with higher bit rate.
I have an Numbers document, after I finish my tests, let alone writing the numbers down, I also write the filesize and bitrate too.
So it is really easy to keep track of what is going on, but it takes sooooo long to finish.
I love your video because you also tested the apps I don't use.
I didn't want to include apps I don't use because I wouldn't know anything about them.
Oh you kids and your instant gratification, back in the 90s we had a $5000 catalyst card in our Mac and it would still take all night to render a scene done in green screen.
Oh man coming from sinclair spectrum to X86 intels, from 3D Max days to my one-day-internship at Silicon Graphics, from Quark Express on macs to html web designing, from flash animation to cubase I lived in the jungle! :))
I can't get over how incredible these machines are today. Just recently, the MacPro I recycled had two Radeon Pro W6900X MPX Module (6K each) in it, and it was nowhere near this M2 Ultra. MacStudio is insane.
I come get because of his video colours. It's so crispy, vivid so attractive as always.
I just ordered this last Friday, as my current Mac Studio and iMac don't have enough power. Apple rep recommended the new M2 Ultra. Looking forward to receiving it in a couple weeks

Great review, thanks for the speedy results. ! think the initial export time differences between the M1 and M2 Ultra are due to a problem with the pipeline in the M1 Ultra since they both have twice the number of decoders as the M1/2 Max but the M1 Ultras times are about equal to the M1 Max, where the M2 Ultra is almost twice as fast (~40% speed reduction). Most of the other times are probably just in line with the extra cores and processor speed - but still a great improvement!
My notes as an audio engineer and fan who has been lurking for years. 1 - your visuals are incredible but your audio experience is jarring, especially on headphones. Your voiceover sounds great and is panned in the middle, as it should be. But when you cut to you at the desk, I hear all the reflections of your room and you moving around in the stereo spectrum. Advice - film everything with the same mic pinned to you for a unified sound experience. Or at least make your unnecessarily stereo audio into mono and volume / eq match and eliminate reflections. This can be easily done in Izotope RX. You obviously put great care into the video. Put great care care into the sound too. It’s half of the experience. 2 - you look better without a big bushy white beard. Love your content. Keep creating.

3:16 Should be noted because a lot of people seemingly doesn't make this distinction, but taking 43% less time means it's 81.69% (nice) faster, because if something takes 50% or half as much time to complete, it's 100% or 2 times faster. AMD infamously made this mistake in the past on their marketing slides when introducing their Ryzen 7000 processors.

Speed: completing a tast in unit time. Hence, it is inversely proportional with time passed for a task. Main formula to find how much quicker the newer version is [(1/old time)/(1/new time)-1]/100 and it also equals to [(new time/old time)-1]/100.
Thank you for the nice first glance at the M2 Mac Studio. My question would be: how does the new machine perform when it comes to creation and rendering in Blender? I would be grateful, if someone could do some scientific research about that topic. Apple says, it is so much better, than on the M1 version, which was a bit disappointing to some 3d creators…
Far better to use a pc for 3D
So far thank you for your advice, but PC is a no-go for me. The only thing I am asking for is, to see, if it‘s acceptable for me. I am not interested in benchmarks, just if I can work fluently. I am also not gonna render for gaming or movies. I just wanna have some insight, what is a reallife application example when it comes to 3d effects for eg video additions. As I said, PC is not an option because of the software I use, coolers going crazy and on my nerves, plus silly power consumption. Just wanna see, if a creators‘ do-it-all machine like the M2 Ultra Mac Studio is an acceptable compromise for my needs.
It would be really interesting to see some complex Deep Learning models tested with this Mac. As most of the DL frameworks have Apple Silicon support now. The fact that the GPU can grab and use that unified memory really sounds interesting. Building a half decent Deep Learning PC is expensive these days and the form factor Apple provides make it worth considering. The gaming angle is also a plus. I wonder if Steam could give Apple Silicon the same kind of support that you get with Linux on AMD/INTEL so we can run Windows games (let me know if this already exists).

Going from an m1 Max(32Gb) to M2 Ultra (128GB) is gonna be great... thanks for this video, as couldn't find many comparisons that still mention the m1 Max.
Do you think there is really any benefit of getting the Mac Pro over a maxed out version of this? It seems like at the rate that Apple is improving its products, the Mac Pro will quickly be outclassed by whatever non-pro level computer Apple releases in a couple of years.

Fair enough, but my 16’’ MBPro M1 Max is perfect for my needs (and pretty good according to your benchmarks).
Will consider a 3nm M3 Ultra in a MacStudio in 2024-25 with a LOT of unified memory.
Why mac studio M2 ultra has the CPU single worst score ? (1631 when M2 max on macbook have 2060).
I'm a musician so I don't care about video editing, i'd like to see sometimes tests under Logic pro.
The main problem under Logic pro is the single core overload when using big Kontakt instruments (i.e.).
So it seems M2 Max macbook pro will be better than Mac studio M2 ultra in this case!

just ordered an M2 Max 1TB 64GB Ram model for my music/video production space. It will replace my old Mac Mini (late 2012). So I think it will have a "slightly better performance" 😅The only thing I'm scared of - my audio interface is a firewire interface and I'll have to use a few adapters. Plus it's latest firmware is from 2019. So I might have to replace that one as well.

Nice, all the geekbench and other little numbers in test. But how come i STILL am watching "lost frames" when i playback a 6K file?
The video is so clean so I'm thinking you are using the Sony a1 with 8K and export it to 4K (and compress the noise to nothing)?

Slow device sometime make me think about more possibilities and corrections I haven't thought of yet too, but I prefer and want faster machine I can get because it allow me to think faster and more at same time without dragging me down! :-D
What I’m mega mega interested in is. Is it worth buying the M2 max Mac Studio over the M2 pro Mac mini!?. Here in the U.K. it’s now £1300 from Amazon and the M2 max studio is £2,099 so is it worth spending the extra £800!?. I’m mainly going to be using it to edit videos probably between 15-30minutes long occasional upto 60mins long with colour grading, titles, some effects and I’ll be likely using davinci resolve studio!.
the m2 max is miles and miles ahead of the m2 pro. Hell, even the m1 max is better than the m2 pro. Just depends on your needs, but sounds like you could probably get away with the m2 pro mini based on your workload

Good stuff. It would have been great with real-world comparisons to Intel Mac including the MacPro.
I have the times written down, but since the OS and the apps are updated, I had to redo all of the tests and then to make sure I re did them. The results were quite different from what I have written down from previous tests. Some faster, some with higher data rates. That's why I didn't include old results.

Hello, it is Razor Raptor (the previous generation 144hz one) It is nowhere near Studio Display other than its refresh rate which is much higher than Studio Display.

Great video. The ‘headroom’ point is really important. So many times I’ve been editing with my spec’d up M1 Max Studio, and it starts chugging, and I then proceed to edit with a mindset of doing the absolute minimum, just to get the job done. I will be saving the $$$ to make sure I can get the M2 Ultra next.
With the new Mac Pro accepted an Nvidia RTX 4090.
Thanks for this review, but did anyone else notice how the M2 Pro Mac Mini significantly outperformed the M2 Ultra Mac Studio in some of the benchmarks? In Cinebench R23 Single Core the Mac Mini was 27% faster than the M2 Ultra Mac Studio. In Geekbench 5 Single Core the Mac Mini was 19% faster than the M2 Ultra Mac Studio, and in the Black Magic Disk Speed test, despite having 4TB SSD the M2 Ultra Mac Studio’s Read speed was edged out by the Mac Mini. I realise it’s a different picture when one looks at some of the multicore benchmarks, however, there are still a range of applications where single core performance is more important than multicore.
If you were to buy two 27 inch monitors to pair with the studio, what would you personally buy? Just looking for suggestions to look at as I am about to buy the Mac studio.
Budget? If you can afford it, the easy answer is two Studio Displays.

I think Apple should have shrunk the Mac Pro for maybe up to 3 PCI slots. Apple has been pushing everyone to go to TB4 for so long that manufacturers are delivering those devices. Now they want to reintroduce the concept of PCI cards?? Apple is going to Apple

The way I see it, this is not the Mac Pro Mini. It's the real Mac Pro. The full size Mac Pro is now just a Mac Studio in an alternate chassis for people who really need PCI-e. This is the successor to the Mac Pro.

A Mac Pro without RAM slots and PCI-E that you can't just put any card you want, sound useless to me.
The thing with m1 chip is that is still underpowered.. nvidia is far better graphic option and apple is trying revenge but still sucks in the graphoc department and so it does in the processor the more they have .. the little the changes in performances.. i hope they will fix something with the m3 3nm design .. m1 and m2 are doomed .. even if they have a wonderful power efficency.. i am a mc user.. but there are some things that i am not happy with... the hype with m2 is out of control.. it's a minor change ..so ciao m2 lets' see with m3 what is going on.. and intel and amd they are catching up..
