People seem to neglect these tracks when they do a "Best of Genesis / MegaDrive music but this is some of THE best on the system! Sometimes it's honesty hard to believe it's actually the Genesis.
Dare I say that the MK1 music by Matt Furniss for the Genesis is as good, if not better than the arcade, depending on the music you're in the mood to hear at the time. This music is amazing.
I was born in 1999 but my dad owned this amongst other games and I just to play it so much growing up!! Sonic the Hedgehog, Driver and Ecco The Dolphin were also my favs I was so lucky to grow up playing Mega Drive, Ps1 AND Ps2!! Great childhood
LOVE the percussion in here! People who say the SNES had the better soundtrack like to hear music coming from undewater (muffling) and inside a trash bin (reverb).
I prefer the re-composition of the songs by far with the Genesis version. Quite frankly the arcade music and SNES music sounded like they were playing every Asian instrument at the same time and hitting random notes with their feet while doing it.
Played this game with my older brothers when I was little. Now hearing this again, I never noticed how awesome the drums sounded! Those samples sound amazing, but when you play in game some of them get interrupted by other SFX which I guess is normal for that time haha. Thanks for the upload!
The word 'code' has many different definitions. The shaolin martial arts tournament is governed by a system of rules of conduct ...an ethical code. The combatants respect each other as warriors, no matter what degree of hatred they have for one another... a code of honor. Another type of code could be defined as an arbitrary system of symbols or letters for transmitting messages... a secret code. Mortal Kombat adheres to many codes, but does it contain one?
I was the first classmate to own this game for home consoles in my school classroom. I own the first 3 for the Genesis, but the original game to me will always be the best for the SG home console. Endless memories from years past when life was really good!!

It would be interesting to ask him to include the Megadrive/Genesis soundtrack in your version. Please make a suggestion in your project video.
It seems Acclaim took some of the Arcade tracks and mixed them up with the their own tracks. For example: 12:51 Is the Game Over track in the Arcade. 14:56 Is that jingle when Reptile wins. 15:07 Is the title menu in the Arcade.
I hear you! I think the huh huh huh huh huh oof huh huh huh oof sound effects made the music easy to miss how good this music is! I mean I'm blown away that the Genesis could sounds so good and play so many great sounding samples!
I'm putting together a drum medley for this, 2, 3, and the movie. Thanks for the reference material! I also did a Sonic the Hedgehog and TMNT with more to come.
Growing up with the Snes version of the game. I must say I would of much prefered the opening theme from the Genesis version. It sounds so much more tribal and fitting the animalistic nature of the combatants imo.
Dustin, wow!! Thank you so much. I commented earlier today asking if you had any plans for MK1-3 and you busted all 3 out already. That is really cool of you, thank you!!! My ears are in heaven. Thank you!!!!

It would be great to suggest to him that he include the Megadrive/Genesis soundtrack in his version. This way we would have a version with arcade graphics and our favorite soundtrack.
I like all three versions for different reasons. SNES because how laid back it sounds Arcade because of its sound quality Genesis because some songs are completely different and actually have a better melody in my opinion. Especially the short victory jingles. Or because they put more emphasis on the percussions.

Are you sure? SNES only has higher color count which could be displayed on screen. Everything else is more powerful on Mega Drive. Just remember that SNES had to use "Super FX" crutch to even run "Star Fox" when MD plays "LHX Attack Chopper", "F-117 Night Storm", "Mig-29" and Domark's "Formula 1" without any issues. Only ONE game on Mega Drive had to use expansion chip as this platform didn't need one to have something. Mega Drive has more powerful CPU, faster RAM and higher resolution.
ButcherGrindslam Nintendo fans get confused when they see colorful things. They think more color equals better games and graphics haha. They don’t see less slow down, better resolution, higher mhz

My sister figured out how to use Rayden's special move and to this day I still can't figure that one out. >_> Unfortunately my original copy broke, probably just needed to be cleaned but I was young and didn't know better so we threw it out. :( I need to replace it still but for now I have a Mega everdrive and Everdrive so I can still play it.
+sonikku1011 Better late than never! Too bad about throwing it out but I'm so jealous of your Mega Everdrive lol
Its down, forward, high kick. There, kick er ass.

Back back front
When I hear Entrance I get chills hearing it for some reason, so good
He did composed any Chip Tune really great and i like the Music Type from Matt Furniss on any Game, where he was involved on the Music Department.
Hello, channel user "Tru Fun Games" is programming a version of the first Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar system, could you please ask him to use the soundtrack that Matt Furniss made for Sega Genesis? If there are many of us, maybe he will listen to us. Thank you, greetings.
Court yard theme. The definitive mk theme. Ever
Agreed
People seem to neglect these tracks when they do a "Best of Genesis / MegaDrive music but this is some of THE best on the system! Sometimes it's honesty hard to believe it's actually the Genesis.
This is unquestionably and blatantly Genesis and that's what makes it timeless
So true! I think the crap tastic voices overshadowed the killer soundtrack
Dare I say that the MK1 music by Matt Furniss for the Genesis is as good, if not better than the arcade, depending on the music you're in the mood to hear at the time. This music is amazing.
Waaaaay better
I was born in 1999 but my dad owned this amongst other games and I just to play it so much growing up!! Sonic the Hedgehog, Driver and Ecco The Dolphin were also my favs
I was so lucky to grow up playing Mega Drive, Ps1 AND Ps2!! Great childhood
So eerie and sinister like, the genesis’s original music is so much better than the muffled super Nintendo’s attempt of the arcade soundtrack.
I always loved Goro's Lair and The Entrance
LOVE the percussion in here! People who say the SNES had the better soundtrack like to hear music coming from undewater (muffling) and inside a trash bin (reverb).
The SNES OST is more "arcade accurate", but it sounds like shit on various stages, distorted, muffled and too much reverb.
I typically prefer SNES soundtracks, but this is indeed a great Genesis one.
I prefer the re-composition of the songs by far with the Genesis version. Quite frankly the arcade music and SNES music sounded like they were playing every Asian instrument at the same time and hitting random notes with their feet while doing it.
Loved the genesis version ost. But hated the voice tracks.... They were garbled
Farty trumpets too.
Played this game with my older brothers when I was little. Now hearing this again, I never noticed how awesome the drums sounded! Those samples sound amazing, but when you play in game some of them get interrupted by other SFX which I guess is normal for that time haha. Thanks for the upload!
Thank you for Goro’s Lair, Dan. ❤️
The best soundtrack this version
I agee! To me, this music is one of the Genesis's best ever! I would even say the samples are easily the best on the system!
The Pit is crazy good I love how it switches up at 8:08
The word 'code' has many different definitions.
This game has an awesome soundtrack. The Courtyard, The Warrior Shrine, etc. Flawless.
Hello. You should know something important: the user of the channel "Tru Fun Games" is programming a version of the first Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar system. It would be interesting to ask him to include the Megadrive/Genesis soundtrack in your version. Please make a suggestion in your project video.
Sega always had an awesome version of everything.
With the exception of the Doom 32x OST.
It seems Acclaim took some of the Arcade tracks and mixed them up with the their own tracks. For example:
12:51 Is the Game Over track in the Arcade.
14:56 Is that jingle when Reptile wins.
15:07 Is the title menu in the Arcade.
Came back to listen to this ahead of the movie arriving this week. This soundtrack is fucking incredible.
sounds great. takes me back to the 90s
My small tv back then did not give this soundtrack justice. I can't get over how good the Genesis version sounds!
Nostalgia at its finest. The sega genesis has such a dark and creepy tone to it and I love it like that
Such logic and talent. With such lofi and constrained options he had back then !
Thank you!!!!
goros lair after 23 years is still cold as fuck, i need kendrick lamar to spit over that
Why does it for every game the music always sounds better on the genesis than the arcade versions.
It doesn’t sound better than the arcade though. Not even close.
@@TheWaynelds I think it does
The blood code was a reference to the album/song by Genesis called Abacab. I was in love with this soundtrack my whole life.
Sega had the best MK 1 soundtrack
Friend, the user of the "Tru Fun Games" channel is programming a version of the classic Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar system. It would be great to suggest to him that he include the Megadrive/Genesis soundtrack in his version. This way we would have a version with arcade graphics and our favorite soundtrack.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. This is going to be my ringtone from now on
Entrance victory was my fav!
I like all three versions for different reasons.
SNES because how laid back it sounds
Arcade because of its sound quality
Genesis because some songs are completely different and actually have a better melody in my opinion. Especially the short victory jingles. Or because they put more emphasis on the percussions.
Those beautiful victory jingles are awesome but sometimes no announcer voice will be boring
MegaPhil?! What are you doing on Dustin's videos???
...Ummmm.... something something Mega Man Unlimited Tw- ok, I'm just kidding.
I like the music in this version better than the arcade.
Hi. User "Tru Fun Games" is programming a version of the first Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar system. It would be great to suggest to him that he include the Megadrive/Genesis soundtrack in his version.
that goros lair music, sounds dark af
God, I sucked at the game but the soundtrack is still amazing.
Same
I found this game easy the one that was hard for me is mk 3 mk 2 was hard at the beginning but i master the game now and play it very hard
Been the most useful playlist while doing college work. But also now wanting to have a Sega Mega/Genesis to play this game the original MK games are so fun
This soundtrack represent when a professional player plays at first start of mortal kombat in a (pvp mode) that he knows he will never lose to anyone and make it all the way {end} & survive the black dragon tournament
better than the movie theme
One of the bests GAMES EVER MADE
Entrance is my favourite
MK OST, we meet again
I didn't really like the Genesis soundtrack of this game and MK2 until now. Both Genesis versions have pretty awesome custom songs.
?
@Macro Aggressor: The Titty Baby Killer Oh shit, I didn't recognize that quote. I've seen that movie a thousand times, but I forgot that quote for some reason, sorry. XD Yes, my picture is Leon.
@Macro Aggressor: The Titty Baby Killer Oh okay :D
the opening title and main menu theme has been etched in my brains since I first heard it..... :-)
7:51
What we all are here for.
can remember when my older bro came home with a brand new copy on the day of its release like it was yesterday
Goosebumps! Thanks friend next door who knew the blood code, _and_ owned the Genesis copy! Sorry I broke your finger playing _Power Rangers_ , but I waaas the White Ranger.
SNES is superior hardware wise, but the music here is objectively better
@@ButcherGrindslam Yes Sir. The Mega Drive was more powerful than the SNES and PC Engine.
14:58 iconic sound
The genesis MK1 soundtrack is underrated, it's way more memorable than the arcade and SNES versions.

The song for the Courtyard was always my favorite. It feels like it should be a boss theme.
Awesome music score on this whole game in my opinion. ESPECIALLY "The Pit"..:)
Many Thanks :) The 'Courtyard' theme is very inspired by the BloodSport OST composed by Paul Herzog.
I may enjoy the arcade more for its arcade feel, but man, by the time I played MK on the genesis on my rom, it has some great beat with the music that I just lay my hands dead on the table and just enjoy the beat.
7:52 ...The Pit!!!
Dad72hthorn gorgeous
Back in 1995 when my parents bought my Sega Genensis, this and Sonic 1 was the 2 games who came with it.
