    I have a 1999 Dodge Roadtrek 190 Popular that I have been living in for the last 3 years. I LOVE IT!!! The best part of my van-life is; if I don't like the neighbors, I turn the ignition key and change the neighbors!
    My Roadtrek 190 Popular is a rust bucket from bumper to bumper that leaks water every time it rains but I still LOVE IT!!! Thankfully, where I live, it doesn't rain very often.
    Now that I have saved a lot of money (On Rent), I am going to buy a Newer one.

    Cast Iron pan: I have 2 sizes, cook almost all of my meals in them, including toast. Only problem is when I forget to put them away and they get flung onto my custom inlaid teak floor and put big dings in it.

    Hello! Really enjoy your videos. When you paddled the St Regis area you were 4 miles from our house.
    I bought our 07 RT 190 Pop 4x4 to use as an all-weather ambulance for my disabled wife. I bought an Access Unlimited Multilift to move her from her wheelchair to her seat. The RT provided all she needed for many long trips to the doc or short trips to the ER-- electricity to power her feeding machine, the bathroom, frig for her food, etc. We carried her wheelchair inside and her Team Hoyt Racing Chair on a rack on the back. We mostly camped in it when visiting family & friends who could not accomodate her special needs, but other times, too. It was also convenient for caregivers to be able to get up from the third seat and care for my wife even while we were driving, if necessary. My wife died of her disease recently but I am keeping the RT because it is so useful and it always brings to mind fond, if difficult, memories of my wife.
    Please keep up your excellent videos.

    You have a 21' roadtrek you have even more room for adding more LiFePO4 batteries, a bigger converter that is compatible with them and larger gauge wires to the batteries and your new 45 or 60 amps converter. Then you can use a nice pure sine inverter all night and you could look at a dc to dc charger to charge it while you're driving.

    I just got a 2004v roadtrek, I’ve a million things to learn! It’s overwhelming but I’ve all winter to figure them out. I love your videos. I’m definitely going to change my mattress (I just watched that one). Question on the canoe, How durable is it? I’ve a lab that I’d like to take with me & im worried he might pop it. Im also going to get the bike rack. Thanks so much for doing this!

      It's quite tough material. Very similar to a whitewater raft. If the nails are trimmed, it should hold up well with a dog. Trek on!!

I'm thinking of buying a drivable smaller RV (at first I was look at VW's...Vanagon, Eurovan, Westfalia) and just so happened to see a RT for sale online and I think I'm hooked and I now think that makes more sense (and space) and am currently on the prowl for one here.

    Hi there! I enjoyed your video. I wonder what tips you have for staying warm on those chilly nights in New England and not using too much battery power.

    • @OldManofNewEngland
      @OldManofNewEngland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Patrick - the propane furnace keeps me plenty warm and doesn't use a lot of battery (I have two.) I have more than enough power for two nights on a cold weekend (teens and twenties). Opening the bathroom door/wall makes the bedroom space a bit smaller and easier to warm up as well. The downside with the furnace is the on and off sequence. It takes a bit of getting used to so it doesn't wake you up. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    Great video, these are great hacks. Thanks for sharing. On the Thermocell... I bought several of the good ones in the past from Bass Pro and they worked great for a little while and then it just stopped working. Are they still working for you ?

      @OldManofNewEngland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Papasight - I’ve got two that use the fuel cartridge like in the video and I also bought a rechargeable this spring. All are working. My original is 4 or 5 years old and even has a bit of rust on the top plate.

    I am thinking about the canoe. I have a class b (Winnebago Solis PX). I was wondering if you still like it and recommend it. I have come to the conclusion that I am really only a canoe 🛶 person and NOT a kayak person. We have a pop-top so an inflatable is the only way I am going to get a boat on my class b adventures.

    • @OldManofNewEngland
      @OldManofNewEngland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We still like it. In fact, we just got back from a trip in Maine and used it twice for about 10 miles of stream and pond paddling. It’s not as good as the Kevlar canoes we have, but it’s pretty sweet to have this along with us. Be sure to get the pump. It’s a back saver.

    Thanks for all the great tips! Couple questions... How does the 4x4 do on gas millage? Is it selectable or full-time? Lastly, I'm curious to know how many miles your van had when you purchased it and how many miles you've driven since owning. Thanks much!

    • @OldManofNewEngland
      @OldManofNewEngland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I hope it was helpful, Richard. The 4x4 is real 4x4 with 4 Hi and Low. There’s a dedicated shifter in the cab. Overall mileage is only 14-15 mpg. Lower when using 4wd. We got it about 5 years ago with 60k. Up to 90k now. We’re in Western Maine now dry camping for the eclipse. Video coming out soon.

    Hello, thanks for sharing your experience with your Roadtrek. We have a 2004 170 Popular, that we just got a year ago and are loving it! Getting ready to go on our second trip with it. My husband is very interested in the bike rack that you have. Would you happen to have a link you can share or the brand name so we could check it out? Thanks in advance. 😊

    I wanna ask you a question I have a road track also and I’m 70 years old and that tire in the back on the door , it’s a pain ,like you said it hard to get in the back doors that tire is so heavy for me to put down. Do you think it’s possible to put a swing arm get it welded somehow on the side so it’ll be easier for me to swing it out instead of putting it down did you ever see it done that way?

    • @OldManofNewEngland
      @OldManofNewEngland  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve seen people put a swing arm on, and I’ve also heard of a retrofit with springs to make the existing carrier easier to lift. Not sure who makes it, though, unfortunately.

    Add a couple of usb charging ports to your 12 volt electric system for charging your phones or iPad that way you can charge everything without using inverter

    Inverter for USB charging? WTF why would you turn 12v dc, into 120 ac, to turn it into 5v dc? Just put 12v to 5v usb jacks in, no load except the actual thing you are chargeing. And get some solar, first and best mod I did to my 190 popular.
