  • Last Voyage of the Lusitania. What really occurred on May 7, 1915, when a German U-boat torpedoed one of the largest luxury liners in the world, killing two-thirds of the 1,959 people aboard? Dr. Robert Ballard, the discoverer of the Titanic, investigates one of the most mysterious maritime tragedies in history. Martin Sheen narrates.

My great uncle was the ship’s assistant surgeon on the Lusitania . My mother told us he had been asked at the last minute to take another doctor’s place . He had only just qualified as a Medical Doctor - and another thing is -the family used to often go to fortune tellers - he was told by the psychic that he would have a chance to take a trip and was told he ought not go . We have a photo of him standing in 1910 in his military uniform with his brother on his brothers wedding day ( my grandpa ) they were from a big Irish family - I have the letter his mother wrote someone about this terrible loss - if he had survived he would
Have been sent to Africa to fight in the war and his mother tried to comfort herself knowing if he had gone - it would have been terrible or worse than what happened on the Lusitania . We were also told he gave up his seat in the life boat and died helping others . It’s a well done documentary and I had never seen this before - thank you for posting . His name is on the memorial in Cork . Dr Joseph Garry . So sad . My mother always called him Uncle Joe .

Such a horrendously sad story for all those that needlessly lost their lives - a part of history that I hope will NEVER be forgotten! Hauntingly beautiful documentary - thank you for posting......😢

i seen in another lusitania documentary that possibly her starboard boiler in boiler room #1 exploded as i believe the torpedo hit behind the bridge by number 1 funnel.
