  • In this video, I'll do a full teardown of a HP ProLiant ML300 G6. During the process, I'll be going over all components. Once complete, I will rebuild the machine and perform some upgrades. This includes memory, CPU and adding disks. At the end of the video I will also perform some benchmarks and compare the results.

    I have this machine as gaming PC with similar CPU, 24GB RAM, 3x2TB disks in P410 RAID and 1 SSD for system and Asus GTX 1060 Strix. After replace old noisy Nidec fans for silent Noctua it's still great piece of hardware :)

      I love how it looks as well. It just tells you it's a powerful machine. Replacing fans is a must for regular desktop usage I believe :)

      I recently got my hands on one. How did you change the fans and still get it to boot up?

      @@CB2202 I just connect 4pin connector to the edge of 6pin connector.

    Great video! For a second CPU would you need to upgrade the power supply to the 750w?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I get it right, the 750W is a redundant power supply (so you can swap it while the server is on). As far as I see, there is no need for that one for dual CPU. The TDP of a X5650 is 95W so with two of those and a bunch of drives it might be on the limits though.

      @@jensdbe I actually run this machine with 2 x X5675 (highest it can go), 12 x 16 GB = GB192 GB RAM, a Geforce GT 710 (PCIe x1) and one single 500 GB ssd with the 460W PSUs. Even when doing rendering in Blender, the machine doesn't complain about power issues. When filling up the hdd slot, that might getting tight, though. Therefore I just bought two cheap used 750 W PSUs, which will be installed soon, so I have headroom for more hdds and/or a beefier GPU.

    Nice video.One Question,Are you Using iLO2 on a LInux?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did try it on Linux but had to install Firefox and enable some older TLS version to access this device's iLo2 webservice.
      There isn't really much you can use it for as most interesting features required an additional license (like KVM, monitoring,...) which this machine didn't have (anymore).

    very nice build but the only thing i would have changed is the ram. is a pity not to use the triple channel

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with you but I had to make the choice between 16GB in single channel or 6 in triple. But if you can, using all channels is always more performant as long as you have enough in total.

    Hi :)
    It's interesting how the servers differ by region.
    I have the same model, but it has;
    Xeon 5620
    16GB ddr3, reg, ecc
    3 fans in the front
    Hotswap PSU's
    FIXED HDD Cage

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe these were fully configurable at the time. So during order you could choose what should be in it (amount of RAM, disks, video card, amount of CPU, disk controller,...)

    Currently the fans are at 100% and it makes a lot of noise

      Don't remember where exactly but I believe there are settings for this in the BIOS.

    • @jensdbe

      You could put some more in the 5,25" bays using a bracket and an additional SATA/SAS controller to connect them
