If yes, then he must hold an important ministry (External Affairs, may be) (IF Congress wins in 2029). But he should not be the face of PM because He can not connect with General masses with his poor Hindi (what PM Modi is doing very well, with his catchy phrases in Hindi). Misleading & incorrect info. Nov 1969 Indira Gandhi was expelled from the original & old Congress party. The party split . Indira Gandhi formed Indian National Congress (R), which initially came to be known as new Congress and now is known as Congress. This Indira Gandhi's Congress is mistaken by many to be the same as Old Congress of Patel, Malviya & other great reformers n thinkers .

I am a Bjp supporter but today I support Shashi Tharoor for Congress president , he is a better choice in today's political scenario, his vision and way of convincing people with his talkings is very good. And I appreciate the decision of Rahul Gandhi to not anticipate in president election, he is working on ground level now to re-establish him as a political leader not as a president, it clear his image among youth also that he is self made political leader not any enforcing prince of Gandhi family. To start Bharat jodo yatra is a good decision of him, it will connect him with local people's emotionally and I hope he succeeded to transform them into vote percentage and gain experience on ground. And Mr. Shashi Tharoor is an extraordinary man , a wise person by these peoples congress definitely get a revival, which need now . If he got president position people's faith increase in Congress and get benefit in 2024 election. India is a multilingual subcontinent where Hindi along with English and 22 other languages are the recognized languages of India.
Shashi Tharoor isn't going to get much support from the Hindi belt but from 2/3rd non Hindi India. If you add religious minorities to the mix, then his support base increases to 3/4th of the population.

When I think of Congress Party for a minute, I can't think of someone other than Gandhi's themselves....such is the condition of congress.....they have totally made it their own dynasty party. I really hope someone a non-Gandhian comes into power and his/her decisions should be vision-based and not family(Gandhi) based. India needs an opposition that constructively criticizes the ruling party's decisions and not just creates hindrances in each and every decision. You didn't mention one more fact: that the current congress was made by Indira Gandhi after she was fired from the original congress party (12 nov 1969)on charges of violating party discipline. It was quite a bold and democratic step that the party president of that time took (S. Nijalingappa), and he was quite right in what he said, and I quote, "She is fostering a cult of personality." Just 6 years after that, she declared an emergency(25 june 75), but unfortunately, when they fired Indira Gandhi, most of the Gandhi loyalists also left the party and moved to the new congress she created, exactly like Shiv Sena in Mumbai right now, but in Indira's case, she got the name of the original congress and probably their constitution as well ( just an assumption, I haven't read more about the constitution the newly made congress adopted). This alone can reveal what Congress was supposed to be and what it has become after the party split.
