But what this shows is a failure of our democratic institutions. The countries which handled this pandemic the worst (US, India, Brazil, etc) all for some reason have a far right and conservative Governments. Our democratic institutions must have been stronger to avoid such demagogues from getting elected in the first place. Though I am not sure it is of any solace to know we are not alone in electing these governments, the solution surely lies in taking a hard look at how we let such people reach the helm in the first place.
