  • In this video I take the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe over a 60+ mile mpg run while towing.

    You need to do a test on the FuelSave Pro that I saw advertised during this video. I’m always skeptical of anything that promises huge fuel mileage gains.

      I don't know what ads they play on my videos, so it is nice to hear occasionally what's playing. Donut Media tested one that isn't the FuelSave Pro, but probably does the same thing. They kind of debunked it without ever really testing it though, so maybe a better test is in order.

    Did you test the towing ability of the Jeep GC 4xe at highway speed up mountains after the electric battery was exhausted? (We currently have a Grand Cherokee diesel that we tow with and it handles the mountains quite well at highway speeds, and I believe the 4xe would as well except after the electric battery is exhausted it might not have the power needed ). What do you think? Did you test that?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EcoDiesel is one of my favorite engines. I didn't test it much beyond what you saw in the video. If you're worried about mountain grades, you can hit e-save on the flats and down hills. Then you'll have battery power to use on the uphills. Even in hybrid form (battery at 1% or less) it will help a bit with power, but not be at full power. I wouldn't be too worried about not having the power unless you're at the rated limit of the GC.

    Thank you for the video. I willl be buying a tow vehicle and then a travel trailer that weighs about 4900 lbs fully loaded. I have never towed a TT before. I am considering the Jeep Grand Cherokee or the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. With the 4xe, I need to know how long I can tow the TT before I need to plug it in. Can you help me understand please? Which would you suggest?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Either one will work fine. The 4xe works as a hybrid as well, so you never have to plug it in. It is more fuel efficient and powerful when fully charged. In hybrid mode you maintain most of the power, but don't get as good as fuel mileage.

      I'd love to get my hands on one. Subaru doesn't send many media vehicles to Utah and the only one I've been able to test was a family member's Outback. I'll see what I can do!

      @@Coloradohiker658 - I wish you luck. Back in 2018, my wife wanted to buy a new Subaru, and after showing her reports about CVT’s, I finally talked her out of it.
      I steer clear of those things. If you’re getting it for strictly driving in inclement weather on public roads, then perhaps you’ll be happy. If you’re expecting stellar performance off-road, think again.

    Is there any like hands free steering or steering assist?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not hands free, but it does have lane centering and adaptive cruise control.

    • @pdub422
      @pdub422 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EngineAdventures lane centering is "hands free", unless yours has another package that we don't have, ours is more of a lane departure warning, it just gives some input to put you back in the land if you start to drift. A true Lane centering feature you can just enable and it will do all the steering for you. (You still have to be touching the wheel/have some weight on it for the systems I've seen)

      I think I mentioned this at some point, but I was saying that lots of vehicles don't have such an easy to find button. I may not remember correctly as it's been a while. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Once you use up the battery are you then basically towing with a 4 cylinder engine and no extra electric power? I tow for 6hr trips with mountain ranges in the middle. Would I end up with no battery left and limited power for most of the end of my trip?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2.0 has 270 HP and 295 torque. Even with the battery depleted it will work in hybrid mode and add additional power here and there while regenerating energy on the downhill sections. For the flat portions of your trip, you could hit the e-save button to keep the battery charged up and when you hit the hills, go to normal hybrid mode for maximum power. If you're towing 4k lbs or less I don't see there being any problems, even with a drained battery.

    • @pdub422
      @pdub422 ปีที่แล้ว

      You still have electric power after the battery is "dead". There is a 10-15% reserve for the hybrid, so it doesn't actually deplete it to 0% in electric mode. Once it hits that reserve it will use and recharge as necessary to maintain that reserve for when you need it, so you still have all the HP and TQ available.

    I like those Grand Cherokees, but I’m not yet sold on that turbo-4 as far as reliability and durability. I don’t have enough experience with it to judge, but I would prefer the 3.6 V-6 which is an engine of proven reliability.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hybrids in general aren't there yet. Some things have done pretty well (Prius) while others have struggled (RAV4). Hybrids are great, but they create way more complexity than just a gas or electric drivetrain.

    • @sking2173
      @sking2173 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EngineAdventures - Understood, but that’s not what I mean. I would be much more likely to buy a Jeep hybrid with the V-6 than the Turbo-4.
      I don’t own a hybrid, and never have. For trucks, I still prefer a diesel, even with the DEF systems. But as far as petrol engines go, the 3.6 is a good one.

    • @pdub422
      @pdub422 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I cannot speak to reliability but as far as performance and just driveability the turbo 4 blows the v6 out of the water, no comparison at all

      @@pdub422I would agree. I test drove a few jeeps with the V6 and was pretty underwhelmed. We have 2 jeeps with the turbo 4; a wrangler and the GC 4XE. They are both quite fast, the wrangler is almost too fast for what it is.
