One thing that helped me to “start” was make your bed every morning & wash dishes every night. I was skeptical but oh my goodness I couldn’t believe what a difference it made in the way I saw my space and in my motivation to declutter!
Also please thank Diana for praying every week with thanksgiving. Enter His gates with thanksgiving His courts with praise and worship Him in holiness.
Thank you for your good advice!

I have always made my bed a few minutes after getting out of it cuz i want it to air out a little. I have renters and it is so nice that they wash their dishes every night too. So blessed for the great guys they are. Having clean clear areas are so calming. I am planning on moving but nit sure when but i painted the inside of my house took everything off the walls and havent put anything back up and i started that over two years ago. It just seems so clean and refreshing. But thats me. No one in my family does how i do. They are always telling me you need stuff. Nope i dont

I make my bed, get a shower, read my Bible, start my laundry, and do dishes every morning. And take care of our animals. Not necessarily in that exact order. This routine has helped me through difficult times in life. I usually pray while walking my dogs. I pray best when in motion. Thank you ladies and God bless you all out there!

I have to move from my home after 25 years and 4 kids, due to divorce. I have been watching decluttering videos and they just make me shut down and feel overwhelmed. After watching several of your videos something is clicking with me. It is easier (for some reason) to decide to minimalize than to say I'm decluttering. I've enjoyed hearing what you have to say! Thanks!

Here's how I deal with analysis paralysis: When researching I limit information gathering to five sources. I pick two sources to discard immediately for not being the best. This way only three sources of info rise to the top. I give myself an hour to study the information and then I have to get up and apply *something* that I just learned before I get another hour of study. Each of these steps forces you past natural stopping points to productivity. Once you actually apply something you just learned your brain will start to understand that actually achieving the end result is more important than finding out 24 different ways to achieve the end result. "Done is better than perfect" is the best tip out there and applies to just about everything.

    • @FilippaSkog
      @FilippaSkog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This is a brilliant and beautiful question, and extremely useful even when secularised: Do I trust that my life will be okay? Do I trust that I’ll have what I need? I decluttered about 80% of everything we owned six years ago and have yet to find myself in a pinch because of it. When I’ve needed something I’ve always found a way to get it: borrowed it, rented it, bought it cheaply second hand, or found that in fact I could get the same result with something I already had on hand (or could borrow). My family’s never been without what’s important. The simpler life is a blessing.

Decluttering and simplifying has changed my life thanks to all the utube women who take the time to video themselves. I’ve been obsessed with the cleaning and organizing videos for over a year and three mo the ago we moved into our forever home that’s twice as big and guess what?! I didn’t nearly fill up my cabinets and I don’t want to bc I can’t reach the top shelves anyway😂 my kids have decluttered, my husband has decluttered and it has seriously changed our life! It took me over a year bc it’s not an easy task especially when you’ve collected items from family members that have passed on and u think your kids might want them. But now I just ask them. They are 10 & 16 and if they aren’t going to want certain things when I’m gone then why the heck am I keeping them lol. We are moving on to a better, cleaner, decluttered lifestyle and my girls keep me in check when we go shopping letting me know I really don’t need this or that lol. It’s great. You just need one support system so if this online class is it for you I would definitely go for it. These women are great! I’ve been following like I said for over a year and they’ve changed my perspective and my life for the better! Love what you are doing for all of us and look forward to all your videos. I’m now just working in maintaining this clutter free lifestyle which is still work but very satisfying after learning what you’ve taught us 😘

My daughter in law got me to watch you in you-tube and you and your sister are amazing. My daughter in law has been using your tips in all the rooms in our home. I have also been doing it in my room. You make it so easy to understand and apply. We both have learned a lot. I have cleared out 50 percent of my closest and it felt so good. We have watched all of your you tubes. We like that your Christians and reading from the Bible and your prayers. We always look forward to watching your new ones. I used to go shopping and get things because maybe I will use them later and now I stop and think first do I really need it and usually I put it back on the shelf. I feel so much better now because I don't spend as much money.
God bless you both and keep up as God is definitely watching over you and your families.

I had more vases than a flower store because of birthday/valentines day flowers over the years. Just donating them one day made me feel better and keeping 3 nice ones. I feel bad when I clean out a lingerie drawer, sock drawer but it doesn't show and then I feel good, then bad. I try to give myself a pep talk before bed to combat it. It feels good to only have the socks I want to wear, underwear that isn't old, but it's not like cleaning off a counter which others see.

I have the same feeling regarding decluttering hidden spaces. I have gotten better at remembering to take a picture before. Then when I feel like the hidden decluttered space is not improved, I look at the picture and remember the great work I did. I have also found that after I declutter an area, that after a while it still feels too full and needs even more decluttering. I know Dawn has referred to this multiple times that as you get used to the space and simplicity you crave more space and simplicity.

I'm so glad I found you via another TH-cam channel. God knew I needed simplicity in my life being a disabled Veteran and Single Mom of a "differently abled " teen. Starting to follow some tips, I was able to recently donate to a homeless warming shelter that I used to personally be involved with years ago. Although the pictures I received had people wearing masks, I could see and feel the smiles they had on their faces carrying in the 50+ bags (yes probably more) of food, clothes, hygiene items, snacks, food items and more. My heart is full today receiving the photos from the person who picked up the car full of items to drop off for me. I have wanted and needed to feel like I am fulfilling my purpose in life which has been to serve others since I was a child. 💕

I watched many of your videos which gave me such inspiration. We have lived in our home for 29 years. Our kids are grown and living on their own!!!!!! So this Jan 2021, I decided to minimize our home. I had saved everything including my cloths from size 14 to woman’s 20. I talked with my husband and he was all for it. So in one month, I have minimalized every closet, pantry and room including garage and shed. My husband and I are so much happier. Finished, no. I believe it is an ongoing effort. Plus I am saving money as I think twice, no more, when I add anything. Thanks. And love the Sunday video as your sister gives me even more inspiration. Note: I gave everything to charity and did not ask for a receipt. I wanted this to help others and not us.

So, you are telling me that watching a huge number of videos on decluttering and making a bunch of lists is not getting me where I need to be??? OK, I have gotten most of my kitchen inventory reduced and I am pretty excited about that. Recently widowed I don't need place setting for eight (not that I needed them before). I loved your comments on the pot holders! I came to that realization just the other day. Not sure I had 12 but I now only have 3. And, I want to share with you a friend's reaction to me getting rid of 1/2 my dishes and and pots and pans. She basically said that's great! What are you going to use the empty space for? When I said "nothing" it stopped her thought process. She got kind of a envious look on her face.... Now at the point she does not have the luxury of down sizing, she is living in a four generation household. But I think when she gets her home back she is on board too!

I agree about Fasting. We, Muslims, fast once a year for 30 days in the month of Ramadan and like you said it is NOT easy at all. It doesn't mean that one can't manage it. Rather it comes with practice. I have been fasting since I was 13 years old. And some times it can be tough. A big thing is the mental aspect of it. One has to be mentally prepared to not eat and neither drink from sunrise to sunset and even be able to manage what one eats in the eating window. Slow energy releasing foods and whole foods are the best. And with fasting comes amazing mental clarity. 30 days of straight fasting is not easy. The last 10 days can be mentally exhausting and at the same time they can be the best if we manage them right. Also got to be careful not to burnout. Pacing oneself is extremely important.
Last year I made the mistake of not stopping coffee a week before Ramadan and got nasty headaches. Not going to repeat that mistake ever again. I personally have 3 to 5 Dates and a glass of cold Whole milk for breakfast and then a very light meal to break my fast and then have a large meal an hour after breaking my fast. And drink LOTS of water during the eating window.

The timer went off at 1/2 hr. but I didn't hear it because the shop vac was going. I came up over 2 hours later! I love the timer. It gives a set time, that I find once I get started, is never long enough, but it can be if that's what you want. Washing sheets, drying and putting them back on your bed is such an amazing concept. I do have 2 sets but the extra is upstairs put away and I don't have to deal with folding that fitted sheet.

The # of towels, dish cloths, pot holders depends on each family. For example, I am a single 61 year old woman but the washing machine is in the basement of the apartment house and we pay to use it so I might have a few more of these items than say someone else who access to a washer 24/7. Same with lingere, pants and so on.
However I have been working on reducing those items I really don't need. It feels good to have released those items

I loved hearing Diana speak on fasting. Before I had to take medication, I would fast as Diana explained how she and Princeton did Mondays-Tuesdays. Now, since my medication requires to be taken with food, I do a Daniel's fast. Several years ago, (When I was still "regular " fasting) the Lord spoke to me about doing a 40-day Daniel's fast. However, it was from December 2nd- January 10th. This meant not a single Christmas cookie or any of the delicious holiday treats. I obeyed. I stuck to the fast, and that year I felt amazing; grew to a new dimension in prayer; and witnessed true miracles. So, I highly recommend this type of fast if you know anyone who must take medication. Due to budgeting issues, I wasn't able to enroll in the course today, so I was extremely happy, Dawn, when you announced the course would reopen in April!! Thanks again for all you do!

This is so good! I can say I like to do things perfect. I will gather and gather and gather information before I start to make sure I do it right. My motto has been if you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over.... John Wooden....
I've soften my stance on perfection a little. Done is better than procrastination. I completed a Shutterfly album for my dad who just lost his brother, that he had a now regretful falling out with, and a scrap book project that I wanted to do for my mom. It paralyzed me for years. No matter how perfect or not perfect, my mom was going to love.
What has made things easier is that I know, if for some reason I have gotten rid of something that I needed, I can get it from Amazon, Target, a thrift store, easily. There is so much out there. I've been telling myself, It will bless someone else.
My dad is a hoarder. I just tell him I'm paying the thrift store to store it for me.
I am enjoying this group so much. Love your support.
