This band is the greatest live band I’ve ever seen. They’re all master musicians who have an almost telepathic connection. They never played a song the same way twice, and had enough balls to go by feel down new roads in front of thousands of people, leaving little clues in the music for each other hinting at what they were thinking and where they might go next. They never seemed to really get lost or stuck. Anything from ‘Live at the Fillmore East’, especially this song, shows what they’re capable of. “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”, “Dreams”, “Statesboro Blues”, “Stormy Monday”,….. it’s all greatness. They are definitely worth checking out. Thanks!
Great road trip playlist. Filmore East is an incredible experience. Gregg had that voice at such an young age. He was married to and had a child with Cher.
Not too many men out here haven't felt like at least part of this themselves at one time or another. This was on their debut album and it's still one of my favorites. It's on Rolling Stones 500 greatest songs of all time AND the whole album was recorded and mixed in just two weeks!
ABB ~ 🎼🐐 Saw them twice in the early 90's and each time they jammed for 3 hours! I've seen countless bands through the years and I can say with all sincerity that they were the greatest band I've ever seen.
Dwayne and Greg Allman are names in Classic Rock that few other brothers achieved the heights of greatness they did. Their live shows are the stuff of legend. JM, you can be very proud of the names you have added to your playlist... AWESOME... TOO COOL again. 134
Yes, the Allman Brothers were one of the top three or four live bands when Duane was living, and their shows remained top echelon for most of their career after his passing. I especially love the Warren Haynes era and recommend "Soulshine."
Thanks for checking on my recommendation from the Livestream so quickly. Keep up the great work. All of the live performances are fantastic. 45 years Allman Brothers Band were together. Soulshine is my next favorite
This dude's happy face legitimately looks like a plucky happy-go-lucky comedic relief Anime character.... and I don't even watch Anime (except for the 1988 masterpiece "Akira" ...because obviously).... LOL😂😂😂
The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (founder, slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards, songwriting), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Subsequently based in Macon, Georgia, they incorporated elements of blues, jazz and country music and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals.
Does anyone buy CDs anymore? I sure do. If you're interested in an entire CD to take you into a Southern Rock and Blues world, please consider the Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East 1971. Put that CD on while you're relaxing or working around the house or out driving. Whipping Post is an 11:23 second banger. Fantastic show!!!
Hey JM, one of my favorite artist Boz Scaggs with the lead guitarist from this band.......AWESOME tune..... Duane Allman & Boz Scaggs ~ ''Loan Me A Dime'' 1969
Good call on Gregg's character in his voice. No wonder Cher married him. I mean he's got soul! Check out their live versions, which have more to offer by way of percussion. Also Frank Zappa's cover of the song is one of the best covers in history. Formidable video of the performance too. Great soul there. I could tell you were feeling this song. Have you been there as well? I think I have.
More to check out from the Brothers Leave My Blues At Home Stormy Monday (Fillmore East Album) Stand Back Jelly Jelly Pony Boy Southbound Wasted Words Black Hearted Woman In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed(Fillmore East Album)
Great choice! Duane Allman is one of the greatest rock guitarists and his brother Greg's vocals make this song a classic. The band's other guitarist, Dickey Betts, is almost as good but he's not the icon that Duane became. Also, I like your extended commentary. It was fun streaming with you last night - you got some good recommendations. :)
"One Way Out"... "Stormy Monday"...."Midnight Rider"...."Melissa"..."Jessica".... "Dreams"..."Southbound"...."Blue Sky"..."Statesboro Blues"..."Ramblin' Man"..."Wasted Words"...... all legendary songs, Just to name a few.
"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed"...and speaking of "One Way Out", that is the title of an Allman Brothers Band biography that is a real eye-opener that is told primarily through quotes from anybody and everybody that was in the band or associated with the band including contradicting versions and points of view which makes for a really entertaining read.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this great, great rock band. IMHO there is no better blues rock band. I recommend One Way Out by them next. You’ll see why Duane Allman is considered one of the best slide guitar players of all time. IMHO he is the best and many people also think so. (Derek Trucks who is related to one of the drummers joined the band years after this song was recorded is also a top tier slide guitar player).
It’s always enjoyable seeing you enjoy a song, especially when it’s a band that’s new to you. I didn’t follow the Allman Brothers beyond radio airplay, but this is some good stuff. ❤
Dude, you just opened the door...next reaction, anything from Live from The Filmore East ...voted consistently , one of the top 10 greatest love performances, the past 40 years.
The original six of this band could be argued as one of the best American rock bands. Fate dealt them 2 heavy blows with the deaths of Duane Allman 1971, and Berry Oakley 1972, in motorcycle accidents. They were always a great band, but the original six were special.
Gregg expresses well his ill feeling regarding his girlfriend using him like a tool. Somebody actually tied to the whipping post in any country, ship, or century must have felt much worse.
Great choice Brah; give Statesboro Blues, Stormy Monday, One Way Out, or In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed a try since you enjoyed this. The Allman Brothers' "Live At The Fillmore East' is one of the best live albums ever recorded. I'm telling all my friends about JMBOY TV and to subscribe. This Reaction channel is to good not to have more subscribers.
I got another Reactor (7 so far) to watch... "Pedro de Pacas".... "Anthony "Man" Stoner"...... Legends.... Cheech and Chong - "Up In Smoke".... the guy said he nearly died from a heart attack laughing. So, Don't die laughing JM... enjoy the funny.
"Whipping Post" I've been run down and I've been lied to. And I don't know why, I let that mean woman make me a fool. She took all my money, wrecks my new car. Now she's with one of my good time buddies, They're drinkin' in some cross-town bar. Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel, Like I've been tied to the whippin' post. Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post. Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin' My friends tell me, that I've been such a fool. But I had to stand by and take it baby, all for lovin' you. Drown myself in sorrow as I look at what you've done. But nothing seemed to change, the bad times stayed the same, And I can't run. Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel, Like I've been tied to the whippin' post. Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post. Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'. Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel, Like I've been tied to the whippin' post. Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post. Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'

Good Old Southern Rock Allman Brothers! Keeping comin'!
One of the first bands to feature two drummers. Such a unique blend of multiple genres of music.
AND 2 lead guitarists

they do a tune called "old friend ", unique a must hear

"Whipping Post"
I've been run down and I've been lied to.
And I don't know why, I let that mean woman make me a fool.
She took all my money, wrecks my new car.
Now she's with one of my good time buddies,
They're drinkin' in some cross-town bar.
Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,

Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'
My friends tell me, that I've been such a fool.
But I had to stand by and take it baby, all for lovin' you.
Drown myself in sorrow as I look at what you've done.
But nothing seemed to change, the bad times stayed the same,
And I can't run.
Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I've been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.
Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I've been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'
