    They just don’t make music like this anymore. No auto tune, no nothing. Just pure talent. It’s the quintessential sound of southern rock. Love it.

    Duane Allman.. 24 years old or younger when this was recorded. Tragically died in his mid 20's. Can you imagine what a talent that never really was allowed to grow?.. So sad. but the music is there to Enjoy !

    The amazing part of this is the fact that Gregg was 21-22 years old when they recorded this. Hell, all of them were early-mid 20's. Without ABB, Southern Rock may not even be a thing today.

      In the documentary Muscle Shoals (on TH-cam) one of the studio musicians tells the story of how Duane Allman reworked Hey, Jude for Wilson Pickett. Duane does a thrilling guitar fill at the end, "...and suddenly there was Southern rock."

      I'm not from the UK but I'm shocked to hear that you never heard of The Allman Brothers. Perhaps it's a generational thing? They came out in the late 60s and became one of the most iconic American bands in rock music history. Their style is usually labeled as "southern rock" but, truthfully, they were so much more than that. They had elements of blues, soul r&b, country, and jazz. The Allman Brothers were known for some of the most incredible live performances, where they showed a mastery for jamming improvisations. Highly recommend you check them out.

      @@lindazee Thank you for that information.Have just done some more investigating and found out,'Ramblin Man' was the most popular song here in the U.K. and having listened to it, have indeed heard it before ! Oh baby! Gregg Allmann…and the brothers. It cannot be topped in the sexy guitar that thrashes in this song, and his voice as well is just sexy as fuck!…they are just bad ass altogether. As far as the song, my closest friends are men, and they have said this song is how they have felt. Couldn’t let go of one specific part of that woman, so they took it til it couldn’t be handled anymore!
    And I’m used to the sports references at this point…used to bug me, but I’m passed it. Love you boys too much to not watch over sports analogies.

      I'm even further away from the Deep South - in the UK - and I've been listening to the Allman Brothers and other southern rock bands, like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Atlanta Rhythm Section since the early 70s. [p.s. my musical taste is very eclectic - prog rock being a staple for me, but also jazz, jazz rock, classical, hip hop, heavy metal and motown, but Southern rock will always be in my collection].

    The best is watching their live version at Fillmore East where they do jam. The guitars, two drummers, Gregg on organ and vocals. The long hair, dress but most of all watching them up close squeeze everything they can out of their instruments. Enjoyed your reaction. I don't know if Gregg ever learned. He was married to Cher for awhile if that helps.

    I believe this is the first version of this song. It is only about five minutes long whereas the Fillmore East live version is over twenty minutes in length. The Fillmore East is a double album with Whipping Post taking up one entire side. This is certainly, if not the first, then one of the first "jam bands". On the "Eat A Peach" double album two sides were called "Mountain Jam".

    The absolute greatest American band ever. Survived everything a band could, and always outshined every other. Gregg has a once in a lifetime voice, and his writing ability was on par with no one else. The catalog is immense, and not a bad song on any album. Live at the Filmore East, is regarded as the single greatest LIVE album ever. And that's to this very day.

As we pulled away my mom was yelling he's to young to go with you! Lol she knew what was gonna go on on the trip and the concert! When we got there they were about to play whipping post and Greg prefaced the song by saying this is a Swedish wedding song! Lol those were the days fellas!

    Crocodile Dundee on the right needs to stick to Miley Cyrus. The ABB is one of the greatest blues-rock bands ever. Duane a top 5 guitarist, Dickey a top 50 guitarist, and Gregg had a top voice in rock. They were all younger than 25 here, Gregg 21. Just Amazing.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd are what most rock fans think about first when they hear the words "Southern rock," but The Allman Brothers Band are also top shelf.

    • @dwanpyrtle3134
      @dwanpyrtle3134 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Southern rock. According to Gregg Allman, that's doubling up. All rock is Southern. That's where rock came from. Elvis, Jerry Lee, Little Richard all were from the South, and so were the Allman brothers Band. One exception, Berry Oakley was originally from Chicago, but he immigrated and was playing with Southern bands before the Allmans.
      Gregg was not one of the founders of the band. It was Duane. He brought them together and called for Gregg to come back from CA to do the singing. Over 40 years of material came from this band in several different member makeups.
      Live recordings show their true abilities...and anyone else's really.
