Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Statesboro Blues", "Melissa", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man" etc. One of my favorites is their instrumental "Jessica" which was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter.
Founded by brothers Greg Allman (singing and playing keyboard in this one) and Duane Allman on guitar. He's famous for playing slide guitar..or was before he died RIP.
The Allman Brothers were Blues, Country, Jazz, and always Southern Rock. Gregg's iconic voice, one of the best Rock guitarists Gregg and Dickey Betts, two drummers, a bass, and so much tragedy tied to the Allman Brothers. Watch their live version at Fillmore East, since it is one of the best live performances of any Rock band.
They were, and still are, ICONIC. But I think you missed the mark calling them "ironic". They did not use words or phrases that meant the opposite of what they were trying to convey.
My brother, I really enjoyed your reaction to this great Allman Brothers song. You are right, the singer, Gregg Allman, wrote this song. Also, you are spot on when you say you can feel his pain. The pain and hurt of this song really come through loud and clear in his voice, the lyrics and the guitars. IMHO The Allman Brothers are the greatest blues rock band. Gregg Allman is arguably the greatest blues singer and his brother, Duane, is the greatest slide guitar player of all time. I recommend One Way Out (make sure it’s from their Eat A Peach album) by them next. It’s live from Fillmore East in 1971. They have many great songs to explore!!
this band can not be pigeonholed as one genre. Southern rock is how I labeled them growing up in the '70s, but I heard jazz and blues the more I listened🎹🎶
I was fortunate enough to see this Band in New Orleans many times as they basically made New Orleans their home away from home. They were the most talented and masters of their instruments I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many. Top that with Greg’s gritty, soulful, bluesy voice and it didn’t get any better.
If you think you are hearing something distinct and different it;s that the Allman Brothers mastered the art of playing dual synchronized lead guitars! They were really something!!! Hell yeah! They are incredible live! I could go on and on, but I'm sure someone either has or will tell you more about the "brothers".
Greg got the idea for this song in the the night and when he woke up he couldn't find a pen or pencil so he wrote the lyrics on an ironing board with burnt matchsticks
I was turned on to these guys way back in 1971 during my tour in Vietnam. Best Blues Band ever. Duane Allman's slide guitar was the best in the world before he was killed. Brother Greg, on the keyboards and lead vocals, has so much damned soul in his voice. They are greatness.
Truly one of the greatest jam bands of all time. When they perform live they can turn an 8 minute song into a half hour long display of musical genius. Such a deep and wonderful catalog. Dive deep and enjoy. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
One Way Out Live at Filmore East is an amazing song that really showcases their blues sound and Greggs voice as well as Dickie Betts and Duane Allman's slide guitar playing , Well worth a listen
Sir. Having listened to this version and apropos to your "roadhouse" comment, I highly suggest listening to the live version from their Fillmore East album. You will not regret it.
I actually saw them many years ago.A very tight well rehearsed show.Great musicians all. There are only two left from the original 6 members. The ones that have passed on are all buried together.
The Allman Bros were a totally new fusion of blues, country, and jazz whose legacy still lives on. Sweet Melissa might be a good place to go next from them. Great reaction, and glad to have you back, Mr Boyd!
There definitely is a Live performance from just after that song came out...1970 I think.....every bit as astounding as the studio version....maybe even better frankly. Wouldn't mind a reaction to that at some point.
They came to Little Rock often in the 70’s-- always a long jam session. Wish I’d been mature enough to truly appreciate them-I was but a teen rocking out with friends.
You want live? You got it! Check out One Way Out from their performance at the Filmore East. It's mind blowing ❤ Another favorite Allman Brothers tune is Melissa. Beautiful. There's a video with lyrics done in a similar style to the one you just watched. And I think you'd really enjoy one of the brothers, guitarist Duane Allman, along with the exceedingly talented Boz Skaggs, playing Loan Me a Dime. (However, as much as I'd like to see your reaction, I'd really rather you listen to it off-line without interruption so you can get lost in all that delicious sauce.)
Best Southern Rock band ever! You should listen to the live version. Yes Gregg Allman, singer and keyboards wrote this on an ironing board cover so the story goes.
The vocalist is Greg Allman. His brother was Duane Allman, an outstanding slide/blues guitarist. Lookup Duane Allman. Tragically, Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident far too early.
There is a FABULOUS cover this song by an artist called Jesse Kinch. He absolutely slayed it. It's one of the few covers I think is done just as well or even better than the original.
Now days most people call their style Southern Rock. But that descriptor wasn't even coined until a few years later. They considered themselves a blues band. And the lead singer, Gregg Allman, was only 21 years, 8 months when he recorded this. His older brother, Duane, was the leader of the band and played slide guitar. He was killed in a motorcycle wreck about 15 months later.
If you want “live”, then you should listen to the entire “Live From the Fillmore East” album. It is considered to be the best “live” album of all time, of any artist. (Possible equal “live” performance: Queen at the Live Aid concert).
2 rules to show respect of the music during reactions, don’t pause during solos (you ruin the experience for yourself and annoy your audience) and always play the song to the end, which you didn’t in this case.
Two drummers. /. Two lead guitars /. Two brothers. … . To good. Thanks for sharing your reaction. ,,, I’m not stuck in the 60s /70s…. I’m just not done listening to it.
The movie Roadhouse featured The Jeff Healey Band. They have songs on the soundtrack but my favorite song fron them is Angel Eyes. They are worth checking out, the singer/guitar is blind!
How TAF do you get "seems like he feels he absolutely deserves the punishment that seems to be happening in his life"? I mean, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, DUDE?
Greg Altman was married to Cher and they had a beautiful son together. The 70s was a wonderful time for humanity in America even though we were going through great changes it was because of the music and the camaraderie that so many beautiful movements came into law.
The clueless reactor, with his odd F.M. Voice! It’s the blues DUDE! Oy Vey! 😂 He’s what? No he is tired to it, not it! You’re not that bright, he ain’t sayin he deserves it! Dude put your mind in gear, before you put your mouth in motion!
That opening bass line is so iconic in the genre. If you want to hear them live, anything from Filmore East album is going to be great.

They were founded by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, Dickie had to talk Duane Allman into getting his brother to join.
I’m so glad to see you enjoy the great southern rock phenomenon that is the Allman Brothers Band.
There is a legendary live performance of this song at the Fillmore that is a must see.
Not only 'LIVE' audio, but LIVE video as well!
Allman Brothers were great! Ramblin Man, Midnight Rider and Melissa are my favorites.
Seconded! 🙋🏻 Especially Melissa.
Loved them so much. Saw them once before Duane passed. Several times later on. Their music changed me - for the better, I believe.
Sweet

Haha you should have played the 22 minute version. They were a beautiful fantastic ironic band. Southern rock and soul
They were, and still are, ICONIC. But I think you missed the mark calling them "ironic". They did not use words or phrases that meant the opposite of what they were trying to convey.
It was a crazy, wonderful and exciting time to be alive. ❤️
One way out, Statesboro Blues & Jessica are my favorites!!

One of my favorite bands ever
You need the "Live at Fillmore East" version. If only for your own enjoyment. Gregg Allman was about 21 when he wrote and performed this song.
I believe he had a dream about this song, woke up and couldn't find anything to write with so he wrote it with burnt matches on his ironing board.
FYI, Chris Stapleton covered this live with Gregg Allman in the audience. It’s on You Tube.
One of the great rock bands. Maybe the top Southern Rock band. They pretty much invented the genre.
If you think you are hearing something distinct and different it;s that the Allman Brothers mastered the art of playing dual synchronized lead guitars! They were really something!!! Hell yeah! They are incredible live! I could go on and on, but I'm sure someone either has or will tell you more about the "brothers".
The iconic Live show would be Fillmore East. One song that can Not be missed is In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. I agree with the Roadhouse feel.
Greg got the idea for this song in the the night and when he woke up he couldn't find a pen or pencil so he wrote the lyrics on an ironing board with burnt matchsticks
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 The best version I have heard is from the Fillmore album.
Gregg Allman was a great singer. He has some great songs on his own like "I'm no Angel" and others.
I was turned on to these guys way back in 1971 during my tour in Vietnam. Best Blues Band ever. Duane Allman's slide guitar was the best in the world before he was killed. Brother Greg, on the keyboards and lead vocals, has so much damned soul in his voice.

✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Lead singer is also in the Hammond organ- Gregg Allman!
One Way Out Live at Filmore East is an amazing song that really showcases their blues sound and Greggs voice as well as Dickie Betts and Duane Allman's slide guitar playing , Well worth a listen
Lead singer is Gregg Alman, and yes, he is the songwriter
One of the All time best songs ever. If you like blues and southern rock then you will love this incredible tune!
Find Statesboro Blues live. A must see/hear. 👍
Live is the way to appreciate Them at their absolute best
I was born in 75 and grew up to this area of music. I Love it of course. It will never die.
"Jessica"
The "guy" who is singing is the greatest White Blues singer of all time and the Band is one of the best ever to come out of America!!!
Sir. Having listened to this version and apropos to your "roadhouse" comment, I highly suggest listening to the live version from their Fillmore East album. You will not regret it.
Gregg Allman is he singer/songwriter. Dwayne Allman on one of the guitars. Two drummers. Southern Rock at it's best.
one of my favorite bands ! they do one called "old friend
', not a hit but unique ! another hit would be "blue skys "
Please do Gregg Allman's I'm No Angel!!!
Gregg Allman has that voice! Slip Away is great by him!
There definitely is a Live performance from just after that song came out...1970 I think.....every bit as astounding as the studio version....maybe even better frankly. Wouldn't mind a reaction to that at some point.

Saw them new years eve 73 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Great night. Peace ✌️
Best Southern Rock band ever! You should listen to the live version. Yes Gregg Allman, singer and keyboards wrote this on an ironing board cover so the story goes.
Two drummers adds to the time signature variant
There is a live concert performance of this at the Fillmore East in 1970.
This is art and life in motion
I'll be back for the live version🙋
This is one awesome song. Saw a guy tear this song up in Karaoke lol.
Saw them 3 times. Great shows.
Allman Brothers are one of the top three bands from the 60s along with the Monkees and Sha-na-na.
Oh, you're going to love them live 😊
The vocalist is Greg Allman. His brother was Duane Allman, an outstanding slide/blues guitarist. Lookup Duane Allman. Tragically, Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident far too early.
Allman Bros! Nice! Check out Govt Mule too!
Awesome ❤️🔥
live at the Fillmore is awesome ! Duane would want to play all night long ... great times even with the turmoil , great music
Awesome song and a great band
Tobacco road song has a great live video
DUDE NUMBER ONE RULE NEVER EVER PAUSE DURING A GUITAR SOLO!!!
Its just a song😂
Very very famous
Great southern, blues, jazz.
One of the almighty bands.
There is a FABULOUS cover this song by an artist called Jesse Kinch. He absolutely slayed it. It's one of the few covers I think is done just as well or even better than the original.
Soulshine by The Allman brothers is a great tune
Soulshine is by government mule. They also played a version of whipping post with the Allman brothers.
Check out the live Chris Stapleton version.
Agreed 😊

Duane Allman played guitar on "Layla" from Derek and the Dominoes. Sad that he died young.
If you want “live”, then you should listen to the entire “Live From the Fillmore East” album. It is considered to be the best “live” album of all time, of any artist. (Possible equal “live” performance: Queen at the Live Aid concert).
I almost wore the groves off of this album! Still one of my top five favorites.
I’m really glad you were able to keep your channel up and running. You always have great reactions and good music. Thanks buddy 🙂👏👏👏
Thanks for the react man, I think you would love Frank Zappa's cover of the song !
Live at the pier 1984 !!! (Like any good cover it adds some new components, like the guitar solo - and a good background story)
Greg Allman had a voice a lot like Chris Stapleton. I believe Greg passed away. This was a great band.
aww not heard this in soo long thanks for reacting to it
awesome
The singer was married to Cher at one time. RIP Gregg Allman.
Chris Stapleton does a cover of this that is fabtastic
These Days - Greg Allman from his Laid Back album. Please !!!
Brother, the odd time signature you’re hearing is 11/8 time.
Chris Stapleton covered this song. Look into it it was awesome.
2 rules to show respect of the music during reactions, don’t pause during solos (you ruin the experience for yourself and annoy your audience) and always play the song to the end, which you didn’t in this case.
Check out Chris Stapleton's cover please!!!
You should hear Frank Zappa's version.
How TAF do you get "seems like he feels he absolutely deserves the punishment that seems to be happening in his life"? I mean, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, DUDE?

Check out their live performance of Midnight Rider at the Beacon Theatre 2003. It’s 🔥🔥🔥
The music does it for me, not the lyrics necessarily.
not 1973
One of them married Cher.
Soulshine live is their best imo
I've only heard the studio version which is amazing
