To me this song is about living your life trapped in situations where you're forced to present an inauthentic version of yourself. You feel held back from becoming who you are meant to be. Your fear and anxiety about the disruptions (social, interpersonal, professional, etc.) that may occur if you were to take that step and live as your true self seem insurmountable. You are miserable and depressed and it's driving you to despair. You may just feel dead inside or even be at the point where it seems that literally dying is the only acceptable way out. I think the message of the song is to take that impulse toward death and channel it into a transformative power, embracing the 'death' of that version of yourself and becoming something new. 'You might surprise yourself'

Aww thank you for doing the video, Happy to see it hasn't been blocked 😛 I thought you might have seen the movie 'Vertigo', the video would make much more sense if you had!!! but anyways happy you enjoyed the song, I wasn't too keen on it when I first heard it but it's one of those songs that gets better with every listen so glad you liked it on first listen 😎
    Thank you once again ❤️

Vertigo, my favourite Hitchcock film, a study in obssession and necrophilia, set against a sickly and disorientating pea green backdrop. Jimmy Stewart, magnificent.
Cracking FNM song too btw....and we need more Lovage!

Like a snake between two stones, it itches in your bones - represents you wanting to break out of the darkness.
Take a deep breath and swallow your sorrow, tomorrow represents that conscious decision to break out. Raise a cup and lets propose a toast to, the thing that hurts you most - represents acceptance of your pain. With a new face, you might surprise yourself - represents the new person you could become if you would only try. It wont begin untill you make it end. Untill you know the how, the where and the when - represents the honesty and strength of will takes to go on this journey.
The song is about letting go of your pain and rebuilding your life after you've hit rock bottom. It's about giving yourself a chance to be something better.

I was lucky to have great friends that introduced me to Mikes music in the 90's.
Went to see Mr Bungle once and Faith no More twice in the late 90's and then Faith no More again in 2010 in summer festivals here in Portugal.
Great job you're doing with this suggestions. ❤️

Killer track. It was the "radio hit" from that album. Love to see you check out "a quick one while he's away" live version by the who. They blew the rolling stones out of the water at their own event. So much that the stones didn't release it for 30 years.

Mike is using a super compressed old Telefunken tube mic on this track. :)

One of the finest bands ever, combining metal, prog, hip hop and whatever they thought fit, next to that Mike Patton can sing anything he wants. Songs like Epic, Falling to Pieces, Midlife Crisis and Evidence are classics :)

    Tnx, Roxanne; she rides again.:);)
Hey, I bet you didn`t know this:
FNM actually liked their songs to be remixed by other artists. :)
One of them is: German electronic-kraut-metal star band Rammstein.:)))
So what you need to do is go right now and check their remix of this song, its popish, trip-hoppy and almost techno-rave at the end.
It`s crazy.:)) Rammstein are longtime fans of FNM.:) Remarkable, isn`t it.:) Bye, man!:)

You got to give it up to the other musicians who also play in this bands with Patton. Patton is art but he wouldn't be where he is without the musicians who work with him.

I always appreciate Faith No More reactions. Although I've gotta be honest, this track is probably my least favourite of everything they ever released. It's not bad, just a bit...meh. (in my personal subjective opinion). I do like the sprinkling keys in the background (it would make a good rap beat) but I remember being disappointed when they release this as a single. It made me feel sad. I got the feeling that the band were on their last legs and were soon gonna split up. And they did.
