That's not necessarily unique. We love doing it, but its not like we invented it. Look up throat singing... Every person sings in two notes at the same time, and together they sing in different keys.

It's like the girl in the middle is trying to make sure the other two girls are tuned to her.. thus creating the great network of echoes..
Originally, the girls were supposed to stand in circle while performing such polyphonic songs, so none of them would be in the middle. Each would bow slightly to the one they were replying, thus creating something akin to a slight choreography.
I suppose, the standing arrangement was altered to make a semi-circle instead of a circle just for the sake of video.
You really don't have to overthink it. The hidden meaning is within the words and the tone. Not how they're standing. They could be hanging upside down and it would be similar.

@@Machodave2020 All three girls are singing the exact same melody and lyrics, they just start at different times. The same melody is repeated for each line of the song, it's easiest to discern it at the beginning of the song when the two other girls haven't yet joined in.

William Pagan These are just three girls from one music school in Kaunas city - as far as I know, they haven't formed their own folk group yet. I think one of those girls participates in folk ensemble Sauluva but I'm not sure.

Russian culture has lost the purity of folklore and traditions, but one can sometimes find in the villages very similar and unpopular art.
