I love those old Dozers. My first dozer I ever purchased was a D9G, full U blade, EROPS,but no ripper or counterweight. It broke down so much on me I still have the serial number memorized. 66a9560. Haha
Hey Jeff how are you. I cut a slot for a fence line with my handy 623b scraper. Just watching you cut your's reminded me of mine. Yours was straight. Mine had a bend in it. After about 5ft. Mine started to get narrower. I mentioned it to the boss. He said don't worry about it. At 7ft my can started to rub the sides. Still no worries. I was concerned big time. I told him again, this time I mentioned stuck. He told me to go home if I couldn't do it. So at 8ft, guess what? Stuck big time. I could not go forward or backward. Stupid Boss. It took two days to dig me out with 966 track loader. Since I was on rental and the rig was mine I got paid for those two days. And the Super got rid of the dumbbell.
With as dry and solid as that dirt looks I don't see that caving in except for maybe a loose yard or two off the top that might cover your tracks, but there's no way so much of that would cave in in such a way where it would be "dangerous". People act like this is a wall of loose marbles waiting to be broken.
+Brian Patton More expensive to haul away than to bury, By burying them I generate dirt to cover the solid rock, only a certain amount of rock is removable with out blasting, this one was to high to cover with out removing as much rock as possible, most of the time I just skim up the loose rock with the scraper and take it back to where I am getting the dirt to cover them, this one had too big of rock to do that, watch my video "637 triple scrapers get a rider" and go to the 4:30 mark, you will see how we cover them with scrapers, Also watch "Diamond T" in this one we haul away rock with a truck because the dirt is not deep enough to bury them and we couldn't pick them up with the scrapers because the farmer over many years had dumped rock from the field onto the solid rock outcroppings and they were in piles to big to crawl over, they also had metal T posts and other tire destroying iron. some farmers don't want ugly piles of rock laying around, so we do what they want, customer is always right yes?
Nice machine, But you can tell all the people commenting about the sides caving in have never run a big dozer before. I run a D9 and a N8 high tracks in a land fill and cut slots all the time for special waste deposits. When the walls start to get half the height taller then the machine then you start to get nervous.
Around here people would want those rocks for "ornaments." Other quarry ships them out on trains. Limestone of all colors. We got granite here and plenty of it. Still think you need a straight pipe on the 9. Loved to hear the old 8-H I ran snort! (me)
+Michael Laverty I work for farmers, what are you babbling about? the secret ingredient is Diesel fuel, I haven't bought a new pickup since 2001 and I don't own a boat, When you invent a plasma manifold for my 59 Klingon Battle cruiser I will stop burning diesel
Stupid hippies , my favorite story... This old logger is felling an old growth pine, a car pulls over and this crazy hippy couple come out and begin ranting at the old man. The old man stops his saw and humors them. then he asked them, Do you live in a house? the pair reply yes, he then asked them what it is made of. they turned around an left, people who do not work talking to those that do. Nice one Jay :)
Pete was running a D8 dug one like that, (Captain Morgan rum was helping), I asked what he was doing, he said he wanted to change his oil and needed a place. Change your oil , its dug
A thing of beauty. Only thing better would be to run that rock thru a crusher and not leave an issue for someone down the line. but we know customer does not want that expense. As 4" minus would not be an issue down the road. But hey I'm up here in newhampshire so what do I know?
Dan Costello If you operate in a mine, MSHA training, go join the operators union, or find someone who will train you to operate, its not that difficult to learn, especially if you want to do it
Well I agree you know a lot more than I do...... i was taught go a dozer 1.5 blade wide on slots otherwise you can get jammed up bad fast....... one time I was digging a slot by a creek to push in a bunch unburnt tree stumps and other debris I got jammed up....... I had left and right room I was just taking two or three more passes cuz I knew the ground was liquifying but damn it if I didn't hit quicksand....... took a Terex ts18 scraper but I can't remember but the terror XD9 equivalent to pull me out....... but if I didn't have some left and right room probably couldn't even got in the door open on the cab on the walls started cave in ....
I Wonder if a world record exists or something for the deepest single cut like this??? In perfect ground with no water table to worry about etc it'd be good to see just how extreme u could go! Haha
Its illegal/super unsafe to dig like this. Probably why you won't find much. One cubic yard of dirt collapsing in on you is equivalent to getting run over by a car. Just saying. Class B soil - needs at least a 1:1 slope to be legit.
So when you filled the hole with the rocks. Where did you put the dirt you pushed out? Plus an excavator can put all the dirt on one side so you can still push the rocks in the hole. Just a guess but the excavator would be quicker.
Not trying to get in your business but for someone who knows nothing about bulldozers. What does it cost typically to run per hour if you were just having to bring a bulldozer a few miles and dig a big hole like this and then cover it back. Per hour anyway
Watch my video "Dozing Rock" in that one we drive a 988 up to the edge and dump some huge rock in, I have never had one cave in, You just need to know the material.
1. This is not an efficient way of moving that much material.you are spending about 30-45 seconds on one push which I'm guessing is about 5 yards and also pushing uphill most of the way on top of that. Only suppose to slot doze 1 blade tall otherwise better off to use an excavator for safety reasons which brings me to 2. if a wall caved in that slot it would cush the cab and most likely the operator inside as well.
quadracer5 Read through all the comments and my replies to these kinds of questions. I think when people see something they have never known or seen practiced before, a kind of "OH MY GOD" you can't do that, and a " I have to tell them why" overcomes the mind, I've been pretty successful doing this for 30 years, there are no set rules for this kind of work, I watch what other people do in other parts of this country and the world and sometimes have the same reaction, but then I wait just a little while and my need to comment goes away, I'm not making fun of you, I just don't know how you came to all these assumptions, work experience, someone said so, operators manual, the kinsey manual? Ok, now I'm making fun of you, ***** has a slot dozing video, it also has a lot of Safety Supervisor comments. P.S. Just checked with my bank balance and it says your wrong on #1 and #2 sorry. OK now I've gone from being polite to making fun of you to defensive, see how that works, I checked out your vids, Looks like your a Pretty good guy, Is that your friend that got hurt? looks like he has a lot of good friends.
***** That's a cool bank balance u must have if it tells you that a wall will in fact not cave in and therefore not crush the cab and operator. Mine just tells me how much money I have :(
Can't you just sell the rock for 'decorative ' purposes - people are putting it every where nowadays even councils on roadsides - try and buy a piece to put in your garden - it costs a fortune. Surely that would be 'greener' and more profitable as well also look at the cost saved from digging that slot.
Christopher Lovelock Good question.........here is the deal, have you ever noticed that nobody from your area wants the native rock, they all want what isn't local, well at least here its that way. we send river cobble south and they send red rock north, had a customer once who moved here from Arizona and loved the lava rock, built a wall around his place with what I ripped out of the ground for him.
Sensible man - take advantage of 'local' stone/rock I find it 'blends in' better and usually looks a lot nicer and of course costs a lot less to build as well as transport costs are virtually nil - 1 labourer with a wheelbarrow.
I guess no one is concerned about a caving side wall in that trench. Whatever, just get a torch and cut the roof off that cab and the operator will be fine.

Something oddly satisfying about watching machines move dirt.

D9 a big dozer? lol try a d11 or 575
super maori Well....... a D9 is a big dozer, a D11 is a massive dozer,
jim edsall Very true Jim, but if you know your soil and the limitations of that soil you know what you can get away with I guess.
Very true Sr. I have a feeling that super Maori may have never sat in a dozer before. Just a hunch :)
I for one think that is a fine looking slot....
this is what is called vintage iron, just kiddin nice video and sweet dozer j
its for dead bodies when the shtf
That's pretty badass, I've done a single slot 5feet deep but that's nothing in comparison.
Just wondering if the 2 sides caved in and blocked the 2 doors and the cab how would he get out ??? Mmmmmm lol
word
I always carry a cutting torch in the cab...........mmmmmm
Haha yeah
I've never seen this before. Pretty cool!
Around here people would want those rocks for "ornaments." Other quarry ships them out on trains. Limestone of all colors. We got granite here and plenty of it. Still think you need a straight pipe on the 9. Loved to hear the old 8-H I ran snort! (me)
Would have thought it would nearly be cheaper to cart it away somewhere. Like a river that needs some rock wall 😜

I have cut trenches with 20 foot wall in Alaska, looks like you are close to 16?
Nothin like a bit of slot action
Nice tank trap.
New subscriber and beenbrowsing your vids for a bit...keep it up....thx
thats got to be a nine yep thats a nine

did this one time with my little D4E to burn, then bury trees on a hill side..Worked great..
Want to get into operating. curious on what schooling/certification you need. besides osha. that ones orobly a given
Dan Costello If you operate in a mine, MSHA training, go join the operators union, or find someone who will train you to operate, its not that difficult to learn, especially if you want to do it
Im in boston so it might.be different. Thanks tho. Ill definitely look into it.
don't do it. run a crane. That's where the money is. all the rest is a back problem and tendonitis. trust me I know
How many yards of dirt is in that hole?
Bugger me, exactly what sort of carrots are you planting?
i found this kind of work very interesting.
Changing center pin maybe on dragline
Engineers used to do this in Iraq when we had alot of shit to bury; or if we had a lot of explosive ordinance to destroy with one shot.
Daniel Sestina Did you bury any sand people?
Well, They usually blew each other up bad enough, that there was very little to bury. Now the dogs and rats on the other hand ate well...
Bet that machine runs much "gooder" with that switchblade!!!
I can’t believe this channel doesn’t have more subs.
Me either John
Why didn't you show us the pushing of the rocks into the slot?
How long were you digging when you shot this video?
what happen trench falls in on the dozer wimpey
Well I agree you know a lot more than I do...... i was taught go a dozer 1.5 blade wide on slots otherwise you can get jammed up bad fast....... one time I was digging a slot by a creek to push in a bunch unburnt tree stumps and other debris I got jammed up....... I know the material here, so I feel quite comfortable doing it. still dangerous thought
what for is this wrench ??
***** burying the rocks you can see next to the hole
ok ;) hehe
1.05 - Looks like the periscope of a U-Boat.
I hope your operator has his passport. He's going to need it when he gets to China!
Cleaning up a glaciers outhouse...... that is going to take thousands of years. Some call it futile, others call it career security.
Dovrebbe usare una passata di ripper leggera e poi spingere
Pretty Wild!
I Wonder if a world record exists or something for the deepest single cut like this??? In perfect ground with no water table to worry about etc it'd be good to see just how extreme u could go! Haha
elite360driver well I bet I hold the record then, I have dug deeper ones before, good comment!
Its illegal/super unsafe to dig like this. Probably why you won't find much. One cubic yard of dirt collapsing in on you is equivalent to getting run over by a car. Just saying. Class B soil - needs at least a 1:1 slope to be legit.
How long did it take to dig and how deep was the finished hole?
msearthworks How long? hmmm. I think somewhere around 4 hrs. Top of the exhaust is 13'7" and I was pretty much finished during this video
that's the answer I was looking for... you should add it to the description ;)
Suppose after you buried the rocks the only thing to do with the excess dirt is to dig another hole and put the excess dirt in there.!!
Better to have a D9 in the Square than a tank anyway.
what's the purpose of this hole
Go to 1:25 burying lava rock in a farm field, also read thru all the replys I have made in the comments for a better explanation
I m a cat skinner with 35 years expirance I have dug costines like this this bloke is doing it exactly write
What is a "Costine"
a whole exactly like that use for varius purpose but mostly for exploration
Your grammar makes me think otherwise.
Jeff, is this not your video at about 7m40s onwards? Mike
The vid's only 3:21 I guess I don't know what you mean....found it, gone, Thanks Mike
a trench to catch zombies
+Ten Four!
People please don't be fooled by this video its either you back or forward ok because the bank on both sides is frozen solid
What is this purpose of this? Why would you cut a slot like this?
+Barney B To bury some rock, from a farm field, read my response to some of these type of questions to get some more detail on the paticulars
why so deep
no didn't get hammered last night. I just had a home night. going back to work on the 2nd.
it was about 10:00pm when i posted it what about you?
D9g ?
Dan Costello yup
looks fun

Not for a hole this deep a dozer is faster
Why?
But why?
A grave for dead cattle
1:03 looks like JAWS
yeah, osha would frown on this act, just a little.
So, no worries about a cave in?
You sure wouldn't doo that in our clay!!1

And on the 39 many!!! Folk need to watch this vid!! Lol and say!! Whoa!! Let's call jeff!! He he
happy new year
Bad dozer powerful
An excavator can dig a hole like this to.
why bury rocks, why not find a unused gravel pit nearby to be filled. or make a mountain somewhere. Is there no place for them?
You wouldn't get away with that in Ireland you would get jail , if the sides gave way he would be dead , crazy
Ya were headed for the same stupid save me from myself stuff here too
***** I highly doubt that he would be killed in that...caving in would be like a bunch of dirt falling on a tank...nothing happens.
Watch my video "Dozing Rock" in that one we drive a 988 up to the edge and dump some huge rock in, I have never had one cave in, You just need to know the material.
Ireland is only one big bog
Thats why the side in Ireland would cave in!!!!!
You have no balls over there:)
That’s an awful big hole!!...
nice
Cool
Вот это Да!!!!!!

quite a few views . over million
I never expected that many, I guess for me it's just another job, can't tell you how many of these holes I've dug over the last 30 years
I have just finished watching all your videos. Very cool. The video name also adds to amount of views
this is not osha safe lol

Ummm... I'd take this down before OSHA gets hold of it. That is NOT how you dig a ditch.
Matt Bulger I just wrote a huge comment on your comment then after reading it a couple of times, I erased it.
Guess my give a shit just got buried.
If it is personal equipment on personal property OSHA doesnt have a say
Logan Miller You are very correct, farms are exempt also, maybe he was just trying to be funny?
Exactly. The video mentions nothing as to where it is at so... Without proof there has been no wrong done!
+Matt Bulger don't think cotton wool rappers have been to this country yet so chill bro
>:O
1.1 million people watched a video of you digging a hole in the ground. Good grief, is there nothing on tv anymore? Lol.
I can't explain it hmmm
Watching a hole getting dug is a lot more entertaining than anything on television haha.

You shouldnt get that deep in a slot its dangerous
Gene Sizemore that what she said.
LOL
Danger Will Robinson, Danger!
Lol that’s not deep
