Traditionally it is seen as an unspeakable tragedy when a person is afflicted with these tendencies, and a stain of humiliating shame for the person’s family. But a social change is well underway as political correctness has been embraced by the media and the entertainment industry. There’s a general attitude of acceptance and support now rather than the denial and abandonment which was typical of the past. When I was in college in the early 80’s my brother visited me at a house I shared with several other students, one of whom had a sort of Gay vibe about him. This was reported to my Dad who took me aside for a little Father/Son chat where he expressed genuine concern that I could be jeopardizing my future prospects for a career by this association. It wasn’t nearly as forceful as this obnoxious French father in the movie, but it was obvious to me that the mere suspicion about an individual in a shared student housing living arrangement caused awkward embarrassment among my family members behind the scenes.
This film has got a happy ending. They finish together. And if you are looking for happy endings you should watch "The way he looks" and/or "God's own country", both are gay themed films with splendid endgames.
Issues of racism, homophobia, and all sorts of the "minority" will always exists, its a shame really, but we can always reduce it to the smallest percentage possible. True peace will come from Human extinction.
I found out about myself when I was 8. I was never embarrassed, and when I wanted to, which was about 3 years later, came out. I was never scared of being beaten up and was always threatened. THAT, however, somehow made me feel much happier because I quickly figured out the so-called ‘puzzle’, and realized that it was their problem. NOT MINE. They can live their life, and I’ll live mine
brings back a lot of memories. one reason why i don't even try to engage with anyone. it was traumatizing growing up and still hunts me till this day...
Louis still owe Nathan an apology for beating him up though. The thing about being bullied is that if you don't fight back, they'd keep doing that even to others... bullies need to learn that actions have consequences...I fought back my bullies back in mid school and they stopped bullying me, at least in front of me. It was so satisfying to see them whimper on the ground, tasted their own medicine.
@@tails4850 Well, as a french person, subtitles don't really do justice, they scrap a lot of words, actually, his dad told him "It's not easy to have a son like you", which is way more brutal than just "It's not easy"
A subtle movie about a boy who has a setback. It is no fun to be outed against your will, and his loyalty to his lover who is trapped in a destructive relationship with his father. Our admiration for the out gay grows during this film and our understanding of the predicament of his closeted lover gives this story a heroic motif.
this is exaggerated no doubt but france is highly homophobic bilal hassani who is a gay pop star has had people pay other people to have him beat up for that. whilst yes it is very accepting it is also very bad some times.
_ "There's a new boy in school. Apparently, he is gay. Have you already met him?" _ "I already kissed him." So easy to write dialogs after the facts...
People love power. If they think they have something over you, they can’t resist using it against you.The greatest weapon against homophobia is to come out and be proud.Do whatever you like in life. They are really jealous of your freedom.
I’m a devout Catholic. People say that Christian-Catholics are homophobic and that they shouldn’t treat gays like that because it definitely goes against what the Bible says about “loving people around you”… well guess what, truth is, for a Christian-Catholic like me, I don’t care at all about LGBTs… one dear friend of mine is a lesbian Serbian, and once she asked “are you against gays?” I said “yeah… it goes against my beliefs, but I’m not going to despise you because of it”… and it’s true. Nobody should; just live your life, regardless of how people around you live theirs. In my opinion, with my beliefs, they’ll live their lives and God shall judge them, but I shouldn’t, and nobody ever should try to change anyone; it’s their life, so try to make the best of your own. Love and respect the person, not their ideals… there’s a difference… God bless you all
That teen, Nathan, is very attractive. His father is actually very understanding, as far as fathers go. The father is a respected policeman. The boy should be proud of his Dad. Likewise, the Father should not be ashamed just because his son has a boyfriend. I wish I had a boyfriend like that in school. Today, public schools are horrible social disasters. Parents should take their children out of school and teach them at home. Look at the stuff Nathan had to put up with at that school. Is this a TV series, or a movie?

The reason why Louis was acting like he was around Nathan and joined in on the beating is because he fancies him rotten its obvious. The way when the teacher spoke about herself as a lesbian the look on Louis's face its obvious hes feeling bad and guilty for denying who he really is. When Nathan wanted a kiss at School with Louis saying I'm not like you theres people watching piss off and stuff. Again obviously he fancies Nathan rotten but didn't want to admit it in front of the bullies as he wanted to fit in. Still can't blame him for fancying Nathan he is a catch lol. Your noy telling me Louis is not like him when he had hes tongue half way down Nathan's throat he weren't complaining then lol lol 👅👅💋💋
