    i was a janitor for 7 years and women want their own bathrooms. men dont seem to care. Im just speaking generally but the experiences I had with people walking into the "wrong" bathroom accidentally (this happens every other day) when women enter the mens people are just like "ok weird but whatever" but when men enter the womens bathroom its like WHOA! WHAT IS HAPPENING. and women will sometimes complain about it to management.
    so from my experience if you're trans on any side just go into the mens for the least amount of possible problems. IMO there should be an everyone bathroom, and a womens bathroom (because of the extra hygiene issues they deal with sometimes)

I see it as she was perceived as a woman going into the men's bathroom and we saw the reactions people can have and when she goes to the women's bathroom, nothing happens so I completely agree with Destiny, in absence of any change, transpeople should go to the bathroom corresponding to their gender expression.

    I’m a huge conservative and I agree with Destiny… but I also think if you can tell the person is really doing their all to try to look like the gender they want to be then it’s okay. In 2014 I had a trans woman come in my job all the time with her boyfriend. We became friends. I never even thought about trans people back then at all. No one talked about it really. I was super cool with them. You could just look at her and tell she was trans though. Definitely no face surgery or any of that stuff. But she had no beard, had her face of make up all on. Dressed in super cute skirts and tops and had long hair and stuff and you could tell she was really trying and lived like that all the time. I never thought twice about going into the bathroom with her. She was one of the sweetest people ever. If you’re obviously still having a full beard and stick a wig on then NO you shouldn’t. But it’s so hard to even know where to draw the line with this stuff bc with my friend I could 100% tell she was trans but also didn’t mind sharing the bathroom with her bc she tried her best. I dunno…

      The issue with passing is it’s also super subjective and context dependent.
      You may pass to some people but not all or on some days but not others. Surgery also isn’t some magic fix heck I’m doubtful surgery makes a difference to passing 50% of the time. And if we are making rules about this, passing pretty much can’t factor in. Like how are we going to makes laws based on that? If you are trans you have to go before a panel that judges if you pass or not? Like I don’t know what the solution would be if you want to base allowing trans people to use a bathroom based on if they pass. Why is everyone fixated on bathrooms being genderless or gendered with the most ridiculous standards for who goes into which.
    JUST HAVE A THIRD BATHROOM!!!
    Why is this such a difficult problem when their is a clear and easy fix. This doesnt need to even be a topic of discussion. Most buisness already have a third bathroom for people and for the ones that dont they probably have the money to make one. All small buisness have single use restrooms anyways so its not an issue. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT!!!

    • @chakho8548
      @chakho8548 ปีที่แล้ว

      No one's gonna have a problem, including conservatives, if a transwoman uses a SINGLE-USE female bathroom. The fear comes from being alone in a public female restroom with a s3xual predator/s. Worse, you can't even call the attention of the security personnel regardless of your fear because you'll be accused of being transphobic. If you see someone who looks like a man in a female public restroom, you have to wait for that person to grab you before you can do anything.

      You have to ask yourself what that looks like as a policy position. Are you going to advocate for state and local governments to make it a requirement for businesses to have a gender neutral bathroom? Are you going to prevent them from operating if they don't create a new bathroom, assuming they only had gender segregated bathrooms previously? Fine them? Many smaller establishments won't serve an actual trans man/woman in an entire calendar year, and there's nothing stopping from cis men/women from using the gender neutral bathroom anyway, meaning in practice there's not even any guarantee that every trans person can use a gender neutral bathroom. Similarly, what do you do when trans people don't use a gender neutral bathroom? What if they have an emergency?
      Single use gender neutral bathrooms are both a financially infeasible and practically incomplete solution to the problem. Try again.

    • @assassin-tq4if
      @assassin-tq4if ปีที่แล้ว

      @ab3240 try again? Lol no
      Make local legislation that dictates places of business either have single use bathrooms or three gender bathroom with the last being single use. We already have anti discrimination laws to accommodate all sorts of people like disabled people and this is literally the easiest thing to ask for. If buisness cant afford to make a new retrooms then they probably only have single use restrooms anyways where all they have to do is slap free use restroom and call it a day. Buisness will get a certain amount of years to be in compliance and boom problem solved let's stop talking about it.
      Also there literally no reason to stop "cis" people from using the "trans" bathroom most people will use the normal one cause they're going yo go to whichever ones faster but we're catering something to people who are less than 1% of the population. Men use the smallest urinal all the time with it not being an issue to dwarves and children. I think trans people can deal with it.

    • @ab3240
      @ab3240 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@assassin-tq4if Alright, so that particular policy would be massively politically unpopular for a huge number of reasons. Retroactively changing the building code for existing businesses who may or may not even service a trans person in a given calendar year is never in a million years going to be implemented. 3 gender bathrooms are also not going to fly at all in the US, so that would be even less viable than changing the building code.
      It's not at all comparable to accommodating people with disabilities because that is far cheaper to do, even retroactively, and there are FAR more disabled people than there are trans people.
      There are drawbacks and strengths to any solution and you have to seriously ask yourself why something hasn't happened yet if you think your solution makes everyone happy lol. Businesses would not be happy at all with your solution.

Farha was basically saying it doesn't matter how uncomfortable they'd initially feel because at the end of the day they only care about what sex a person is born as and not what they identify as, comparing it to how someone could feel uncomfortable seeing a disfigured person walking into a bathroom they're in. That's literally not his point. The point is that if social stabdards were to segregate based on race would you as a mixed race person be accepted in the white or segregated bathroom? Would you uabe a choice? No the choice would be determined by what you look like because that is the social contract in operation. Just as now, the social argument is about gender based appearance. Another more general form of this argument is actually to question the Trans foundation of sexual amprphism because, gender is based on your genetic and biological make up much like race, I don't think you would be very happy with a white person identifying as black.

    I think when it comes to issues like this it seems we only fixate on the Trans experience. We are always focusing on how the Trans feel and Women always get left from this conversation often times. And it's kinda frustrtaing for women because there are uniques issues that affect Women that Trans won't understand. And that's not to say Trans existence is invalid. And the most upsetting thing for Women is to be told that our very existence is superseded by the feelings of others.
    Women don't feel comfortable sharing bathrooms with bilogical men. Period. There's also issue of safety for the adult and kids and the possibility of sex perverts raking advantage of this . Just have your own restroom or bring a bucket pls

      I think you mean sex-segregated bathrooms. Unisex means it fits for all sexes.

    My stance for a while has been have shared bathrooms that are esssntially a bunch of private closets with a toilet and air exchanger connected to a very public and open to the establishment shared room for the sinks and whatnot, have 2-3 slightly larger rooms for for disabled people, etc and call it a day

    "Why do you think an individual's comfort to go into the bathroom that they want is more important than everybody's comfort in that bathroom?"
    All you have to do is rephrase this or bring up how most men would be fine going into the woman's bathroom. If the men's bathroom was full and there was a line up but the women's was available, the "individual" would be fine using the woman's bathroom but they can't because of "everybody's comfort in that bathroom"

    I’ll admit that this is completely anecdotal, but I’ve definitely experienced the corollary of the obsession conservatives have with transgender people now. I’m a straight, cis dude, but I’m really short with really long hair and a full beard. In the past, it wasn’t uncommon for people that saw me from behind in line at a store to accidentally think I’m a woman because they didn’t see the beard. There was also one hilarious incident where a guy walked into a bathroom while I was pissing, then immediately walked out and said out loud to his friends, “Bro, some chick is in there pissing standing up!” We both had a good laugh about it when I walked out. That sort of thing never bothered me, as I totally get why someone might have that reaction. Recently though, if I’m commenting on stuff online where my profile picture shows my face, conservatives will almost always assume that I’m trans; especially if I’m defending trans people in any way. Since they can’t hide their “concerns” about trans people, they’ll usually make disparaging comments about that assumption: things like calling me “it,” or saying that I’m “confused about my gender,” or that I have some mental illness because my parents didn’t raise me right. This idea of the trans woman with a full beard and a wig is so uncommon (not saying it doesn’t exist at all), but they think it’s what every trans woman looks like because that’s what gets thrown around constantly by the media they watch. They definitely have Matt Walsh syndrome, where their view of reality is completely warped by the amount of attention trans people get in the media.
    While I’m inclined to agree with Destiny, my own experiences are pushing me towards agreeing with Farha. Should I be forced to use a woman’s restroom because some unhinged guy is “uncomfortable” when he sees another man with long hair at a urinal? Am I not allowed to use any bathroom because his Fox News brain rot leads him to assume that person is a trans person trying to grape their kid, and women would obviously be uncomfortable with a man in the woman’s restroom? I agree that private, genderless bathrooms should just become the norm, but people also need to get over the obsession with bathrooms in general. In NYC clubs, it’s not uncommon to have genderless restrooms where the sink area is open to everyone, but then there’s a bunch of small private “stalls” with actual doors. They’re more like a bunch of individual small private bathrooms without sinks, so there are more than just 2-3 toilets.

    It’s so weird when the discussion even touches on male bathrooms because males don’t care. The entire discussion should only ever be about female bathrooms and people that seem to be men not being in them making women uncomfortable.
