your video is just fantastic, especially the sequence about hatching of he caterpillar from its egg. This butterfly is common in Germany too, but to detect a caterpillar feeding on its forage plant or the eggs, is not that easy. Thumbs up and thanks for sharing!

Zitronenfalter is common in the vicinity of Krakow, where I live. Yes, you are right. Finding eggs is not easy. I sometimes watch the female lays eggs. Usually it is at mid-May. I like the "face" of the butterfly. Is amazing. One of the most beautiful in the cluster of butterflies. Regards! - Adam
The most important thing is butterflies only use a plant to feed the caterpillar.....
It's right to plant where butterfly lay the egg....
Each specie has a different plant....

I znowu kolejny ulubiony film. Gratuluję cierpliwości. Podziwiam poczwarkę trzymającą się na jednej niteczce... a poza tym fascynuje mnie przemiana zachodząca w środku. Trochę czytałam na ten temat, wiem ogólnie w czym rzecz ale do tej pory nie znalazłam odpowiedzi JAK półpłynna masa scala się w motyla... wszelkie znalezione materiały mówią o tym ogólnikowo. A gdzie jest PLAN?

Przemiana zachodzącą w poczwarce jest unikatowym zjawiskiem w świecie zwierzęcym. Jest to efekt zakodowanego planu zapewne w genomie, ale uruchamiany enzymami i sterowany neurohormonalnie itd. Proszę zwrócić uwagę, że w rzędzie motyli praktycznie wszystkie poczwarki są typu zamkniętego i tworzą się podobnie. To dla nas ludzi mistyczne zjawisko. Mnie fascynuje i na obserwację i dokumentację filmową jego poświęcam zwykle wiele czasu. Ciekawe jest to, że serce owada ulega wówczas bardzo powolnej przebudowie i można go obserwować w czasie ostatniej wylinki larwy (tworzenie poczwarki) i podczas twardnienia chityny już stadium poczwarki. Życzę miłych obserwacji w realnym świecie. - Adam

Hi! Actually I use SONY NEX VG900 camera equipped with Nikon Micro Nikkor lenses. For extreme close-ups I use extra bellows PB6 and reversed Tokina AT-X M35 PRO DX 35 giving me possibility to film developing larvas in egg shells.

Wer Zitronenfalter mag sollte Kreuzdorn oder den Faulbaum anpflanzen, denn die Raupen sind auf diese Bäume spezialisiert, das heißt ohne diese Bäume keinen Zitronenfalter. Als Essen Quellen im Frühjahr ist der Seidelbast sehr gut leider ist dieser und die Beeren hochgiftig. Man sollte auch Pflanzen respektieren, denn jede Pflanze hat ihre Daseinsberechtigung!

John Evans Dear John! First of all I want to thank you for watching my films and warm words motivating me for filming mysterious world of insects. Concerning your equipment, I am convinced that you are able to obtain excellent video quality filming insects with your camera and lens. I have seen your marvellous film from your home country. However, for extremely close-ups to obtain high magnification (eggs, young caterpillars and so) I use extra bellows (for Nikon it is PB-6). Moreover, your camera competitor: Canon offers a unique lens MP-E 65/2.8 1-5x. With this lens you can render 3x4 mm object on APX matrix.Of course, try using your L.E.D. light as I do, but from my practice I have found that the best in reneding colours are diods of Colour Rendering Index greater than 90. Commonly avalable ones are of 70 - 80. They are definitely no suitable for this work.
