god, i was looking for something like this for months thank you so much for sharing those methods, i've been trying to find ways to add skin detail for so long
This is really helpful. I have been creating displacement maps by hands in Zbrush for years which takes an absurd amount of time. XYZ in Mari looks super cool. Thank you!
I just discovered your channel from TH-cam's suggestion, and I am glad I clicked to see it. Lots of great and unique contents unlike other channels. Well done and thank you for your efforts!
Totally love this tutorial, will be very nice to see how you handle displacement maps with substance painter or how you create displacements using SP. Amazed by your good work.
Hey i have modelled a character in zbrush extracted normal map with good fine details. But when i imported that normal map in substance i can barely see thoes normal map details. Why does it happen? how can i fix them? Please help.
Hey! Very helpful tutorial! Can you tell me how does it work - sometimes a hat is visible, and sometimes not? Is it possible to add multiple objects into substance? I can't fint it anywhere
how many polygons did you use for the mesh? because use displacement map for only do th hi frecuency is a waste of resourse. Use normals or bumps insteded
@@ArtruismDigital Yes recently I tried making a knife texture in mari where it had 2 parts the plastic cover and the blade itself I did the texturing for the blade which was having principal BRDF material on it. but how do I make the plastic material should I create another BRDF for plastic ?
i didnt understand one part. the dissplacement map u got from tex xyz after importing it to zbrush and refining the details did you export it as a normal map or?
Can someone help me,.. When i try to export a displacement map , I get only a complete grey map exr.. I've tried some other models it's all the same grey with no information in it.. I also tested it out in maya,.. But I get the normal maps and the other types of maps.. Only displacement is having this issue
Great video, I'll be purchasing your full tutorial soon :)!!. Quick question. I was going over your portfolio on your site and saw a render of an old man (which looks amazing btw). Did you do that texture with this same process? Also, did you render it in Arnold or where? Im looking for my renders to have that look also. Thanks in advance!
Fantastic work!! I know the title says "for real time characters". Would you go through the same workflow when it comes to texturing a character for film or would you rely on photo scans?
that depends on if I am doing it for work or for myself. for my self, i won't have any scans besides texture xyz, so process is very similar. for work, i won't have an option but to use scans, it's not up to me.
Hey, sorry if I missed it if you said it during the video, the final render is done in substance ? Also I saw that you used mud box, what are you using it for ? Super interested in buying the tutorial, I just never used mudbox x) Ty!
Everything is in substance including rendering. I did surface sculpting of the armor in mudbox because I like the layer system, but you can use zbrush for that if you want.
Just found your channel and tutorials, and you’re great! Do you have any experience sculpting facial expressions? If you do, a tutorial would be wonderful. You’re a great narrator 😊
there is nothing to the rendering really, select the bg i liked and pretty much just press the iray render button in substance painter. what you see in the view port is what it looks like rendered.
@@ArtruismDigital Another question about the workflow. If I use xgen for the hair, is the workflow going to be zbrush -> substance painter -> and finally xgen in maya? Thank you in advance!
@@ArtruismDigital is it better to create on zbrush or traditional modeling software? I always try to make it but it looks like a dirty flake on marmoset

@@Musiclover6404 Nah man. There is always the trial version of Mari. Hell, you can get away with just substance painter, it just wont be as high definition. Many professional artists will use a combination of both. They do the easy base stuff in SP and then move it over to Mari.
for the map of this asset it has to go through mari, zbrush and SP, don't think ptex workflow can do that. never tried ptex in substance before either, don't know if I can achieve the quality i want
@@ArtruismDigital As I googled I saw that Zbrush does not support Ptex, only Mari and Mudbox.. But anyway it would be nice to have a only Mari-Ptex tutorial. Ptex is the future..

in substance you create height maps, which is basically displacement.

How does the mask generator get all the skin pore detail? does it take the normal map into account?
Yes.
Can't the first part be done with Substance Painter?
Great tutorial, how do you import the eyelashes after the baking?
Just need to swap out the geometry you are working with. Import a version with eyelashes.

I'm not a professional modeler, so prob not the best person to show that. 😉

Amazing.

Do you teach Zbrush in this course? Is it easy to follow as beginner in sculpting?
There is not a lot of sculpting in the course, it's mostly about texturing.
i love you!
AWESOME!
very good! thanks for sharing
How can you import eye lashes hair in substance, is this a mesh or something else ?
It's a mesh
can I ignore the beginning part if I sculpt the displacement in zbrush ?
of cause, however you feel comfortable getting skin details.
WOW!
I notice you put skin pours in Zbrush. Is it better done in Substance painter with height map?
in the tutorial I explained that only SP was not providing me all the skin type I need for the face. So I used texture xyz, which I projected in Mari.
@@ArtruismDigital Doesn't Mari do the same as substance painter? Its another texture paint program no?
They are very different programs
i havent used mari ,will the course help extreme mari beginner?
Not extreme beginners, it's better you know the basics.
woow nice
where did you get the photos that you projected on the mesh?
for skin pore details? texture xyz
I can't get the links in description to work? How can we find the full tutorial and files? Thanks :)
Gumroad.com/artruismdigital
"I was searching for photos of girls without makeup" yep and that's where 90% of the skin texturing time goes
:D
by any chance

It means they're optimized for real-time render engine. For example, games

If you decide to have geometry eyelashes, it's tedious but make it once you can reuse it forever.

u r great ..
"Texturing Skin in Substance Painter for Real Time Characters" Step 1: Use Mari.
Exactly. Substance Painter isnt exactly made for skin, that's what mari is for. Kind of clickbait since she uses Mari.
it's because you need to do a projection for both your albedo and your displacement. It doesn't have to be Mari, I used Mudbox.
