    I had a 19' MacGregor power/sailer and the little short guides at the back end of the trailer are marginal at best. My rub rails would drop down on 'em and get chewed up. So I cut a 10' chunk of PVC in half and glued caps on the top ends. These simply slid down over the factory guides and didn't have to be fastened in any way. The white PVC looked nice and one can use lacquer thinner to remove the print and make 'em look even nicer. On steep ramps, these would even float up a bit making it much easier to center the boat to get it back on the trailer and the extensions can roll when they contact the boat = even better! :)

    According to Dr. Google, a 50 HP outboard only weighs 210# to 270# so quite a bit lighter than the 800# in your video commentary. (Of course, the portable fuel tank will add some weight.) In fact, I cheated and ran a 50 HP on my 19' which was only rated for 40#. The difference in weight was insignificant IMHO. I did end up adding the bolt-on wings to the lower outboard unit to get her up on a plane faster = noticeable improvement. :)

    Sir..!! with all due respect. I enjoyed your critique with some good points... but I must call you on the weight of the outboard motor, A 50 HP motor weighs less than 200 pounds... much less than 700 to 800 lbs as you claim.

    I shipped-out to Vietnam on an LST from San Diego. You sure do get a view of the water in all its aspects; from calm to towering waves. We traveled pretty fast to Hawaii, but it seemed to last forever, and the cross current for most of the trip got everyone use to being seasick in those who hadn't been to sea before. I had been fishing on offshore badges several times, and the motion sickness was nothing on the LST compared to those rocking platforms; that only catching a yellow tail tuna can cure :) Getting close to, or past the equator makes the nightime sky almost as bright at night as a half-moon; a sight to see as the Milky Way Galaxy rises as you travel South. Then entire trip to Vietnam lasted 31 days, and that long because of a storm that chased the ship from Midway and all the way to Okinawa when our original direction from Midway was the Philippines. From Okinawa to Vietnam was a windless, 90 degree hot-box of humidity. The only blessing with the trip was actually being chased by a Typhoon; the waves towering over the ship in the troughs and the surges and groans of the old LST - what an experience!

    Thanks for posting interesting video .Outboard weight is way off at 700 to 800 lbs . A 50hp 4 stroke honda weighs 214 lbs .Also we have had 5 taurus in family - none had transmission problems including when used for towing .

    You know, I know shit about sailboats but I lived in a motorhome for 10 1/2 years and that boat is primo. I had a whole conversation with you in my mind during the whole video. 😆 You were right about the full moon shot 😉🤣
    Congratulations on your manifesting powers. Right on! 🙌
    Keep feeling that deep appreciation to the Universe and deep love that goes with the beauty of being on the water which is the best way to get to your spiritual awareness. The water holds memory, so put all the balanced and good feeling energy you can and it will be one more service you do for your fellow man. So special. I remember you were working on it before so it's great that all you've learned in the past has prepared you for what you're learning right now. 😁
    I believe that any trouble you'll have, as every one does, you'll be able to meet it head on and address it. I also believe you are savvy enough to know that your heartfelt appreciation for the beauty around you is what will keep you balanced.
    Again, congrats on your manifestation. Keep it up!
    Spirit has your back and calls the wind for your back as well 💖
    P.S. when you can afford it or sew it, get some black sails man, seriously. You'll be "infamous" AND notorious! And don't wear The Skipper or Mr. Howell's hat.... wear Capt Jack's hat 😉 Just an idea 👄
    And you have the same attitude when you tell someone you know they've SURELY heard of you and they say no LOL You're so cute
    When the water cops want your name, tell 'em, "Good Pirate " lol

    An interesting video, very different from your usual! I live aboard my 1977 Islander 28. I love having a cheap place to live, and I sail her almost every day. I can’t imagine motoring at 20kts, OMG! My inboard 19hp Yanmar gets me up to about 6.5knots max. But she isn’t tender...the almost 3000lb keel sees to that.

    Was very interested in learning to sail and getting a used 26X or 26M, or other make/model up until I got laid off in 2011. Never could make up my mind on the power/sail 26, or just a power boat, then couldn't afford one when my income was cut by 1/2 to 2/3 of what it was. Plus, I heard/read comments comparing the 26X/M with other brands as sailing a real boat versus a Clorox bottle (the 26). My experiences with fiberglass bathtubs and showers cracking made me question if I would really want a 26. And the adage that a boat is just a hole in the water you throw money into held me back, too! Oh well... Maybe some day...

    • @NewsNowCommunity
      @NewsNowCommunity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Capsize-not really. But it is abit more "tender" (it leans) than a boat woth an actual keel. Its a trade off you make for the light weight. Dad has been happy with his though. So I wouldnt worry over it much. Just know,if winds are over 15 mph you need to stsy at the dock or use it as a motorboat.

      I paid $4,000 for my 1993 Macgregor 26s with a Honda 8 horse. I put a couple hundred into it for a bimini and a water jug under the sink. For me to go sailing in a nearby lake is really cheap. There is no launch fee. It's only 10 miles away. The little Sportage burns $3 in fuel round trip. The boat might burn a gallon if the wind dies and I just want to motor around. So, do the math. Less than $6 for a day of sailing. With a couple doughnuts and a coffee, the "BOAT" acronym means break out another $10. :-)

    We definitely need to see ya do some sailing. Hopefully you'll upgrade soon cause that's gotta not allow for much storage or creature comfort being so small. Ya definitely need ac in those Texas summers. I was thinking about getting into a 40 footer to live aboard but in areas I would do it the slips have quadrupled in rent over the last 10 years. With all the fiat printing I only see slip cost getting more unaffordable plus rich people don't like liveaboards so the rulers rules will only get more authoritarian. Maybe when I retire and don't have dogs I could do anchor all the time but who knows, seems like most areas that are safe to do that in are pretty filled up now so nothing might be practical in future

    Back when I was a kid me & my Dad watch a older couple sink a brand new boat at a boat ramp nope they didn't have the plug in. Then when a was teenager I drove a tow truck & 1 summer the lake was real low & people would back down the ramp as far the trailer tires would go off the concrete & they couldn't pull back out I watch another tow truck driver try to pull the car boat & trailer up the ramp & he pulling the axle right off the trailer. I always made them take the boat off before pulling them out.

    Can the mast be stored to the side, out of sight, while cruising by motor? Do you think it is suitable as a sleeper at a Walmart, a campground or other? Is it capsize proof?

    • @NewsNowCommunity
      @NewsNowCommunity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mast can be stored off the boat if desired-currently it is since it is not in use. Boat is self righting. Yes,you can sleep in it while on the trailer-just like a small camper.

    • @NewsNowCommunity
      @NewsNowCommunity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 26M has design changes to improve its sail ability. Rotating mast, dagger board, improved rudder design and some changes to hull shape-to name a few. I m not a fan of the interior layout though. But if your looking for a boat that sails better than the X that would be it. Also, the S model sails better but lacks the ability to run with a large outboard. It all comes down to what you want to do with the boat. For me, the X works well as I motor more than sail these days.

      After a little research, I would have to agree wholeheartedly with your personal assessment of the Macgregor 26X. At one time I fell in love with the original watercraft and considered buying one, but found it to be wanting as it was equipped with a port-a-potty, a rather small fresh water holding tank, and lacked an electric refridgerating unit that would have made cruising coastal waters beyond a couple of days near impossible.

    How is the gel cote? I watched these videos when I was convinced I wanted to buy a 26m. I was interested in the m because of the fuel efficient engine. Then I noticed all the ads for a used one said they had a new gel cote. A 4 to 5 year sailboat that needs a gel cote! I've had and looked at many sailboats 30 40 years old that did need coated. This questioned the quality of the boat. I also know they stopped making them. I noticed yours is in another video was highly stained.
