It’s interesting to compare the paintings side by side. Both are beautiful, but they definitely evoke different feelings. The gouache flowers evoke thoughts of Provence; they made me think of summer, sunshine, and happiness. The watercolors remind me more of a classic English garden. I can almost feel the heat of the sun and hear the bees flitting about.

Hi Crystal! Your Poppies are so beautiful! You already master Gouache! 😍 I also have a lot of Gouache tubes at home, but I am somehow to lazy to use them. It is so much easier and faster to use water colour. Dried Gouache is often to thin after activating and so you would have to use it straight out of the tubes. But you have to open all the tubes and decide how much you will need and if it was'nt enough you have to open the tubes again.... :D it's not thaaat much work, but it's not as simple in handling as water colour. :) But I looove the look of Holbeins Acryla Gouache. I sometimes stare at my tubes for a long time and admire them. 😆😆

I still love the watercolour version. Yes the gouache one looks dynamic and vibrant but the watercolor flowers have a lightness and movement that the gouache doesn't have.

The negative for me with gouache is…the left over paint you’ve squeezed out on your palette. It dries hard and cracks and breaks, and then it falls out of your palette. For some reason the Caran d’Ache in the pans doesn’t do this…maybe it’s the binder. I really like it.
