Why would you want a synthetic brush? Everything used to create is existence involves the death of animals. Far more than just a natural hair brush. Plus you use electrify, drive, eat, breathe air, drink water, wear clothing, etc. All of which requires animal death to have. I mean my goodness.
Thank you Jackie, I have just bought some Arches to try out after watching you videos. I love them. I struggle doing rocks, do you think you could do a short " how to " on rocks please ❤
What is great about Arches is the 100% cotton composition and the sizing. What makes the handmade paper too absorbent of pigment is lack of good sizing. Cauliflower blooms happen from not just drying (or “not working fast enough”) but an uneven distribution of water left to dry -as well as additions of water to damp areas. 🌸 😄
Thanks, Jackie! I have been wondering what color(s) you primarily use for your distant evergreens. Do you mix the same colors every time or is there one out of the tube? Thanks!!! 🌲
😃👍 Hello, Jackie! So good to see you in 2025! First of all, let me tell you your botanicals are stunning! 😍 🌿 And the headline of this video was irresistible! Taking good note of all your recommendations, especially of paints! 😊 Some of these supplies are my favourites too (I'm using Arches paper, Winsor & Newton masking fluid, that very Faber-Castell collapsible cup and some Escoda brushes, which are made in my country 🇪🇸😃), and I wish Dr. PH. Martin's bleedproof white were easier to find where I live (and less pricey😅), but I'm using a little tube of Winsor & Newton white gouache instead. 😉 Thank you so much for sharing this great information and codes, Jackie! And happy painting! 🙏👏👏👏🤗🥰😘
Such a helpful video! I just started with watercolors in September and am loving them but also have been wondering about which paints and paper are the best... what is weird is that I am finding that I like hot-pressed paper better than the cold-pressed ones I have tried... but I haven't tried Arches yet... after seeing this, now I will.
I like Hahnemühle collection and Lanaquarelle much more than arches. the colours dried more vibrant on the Hahnemühle papers than on arches. plus they are vegan and arches not. arches use pork gelatin in their paper.
@JackiePeacock by what you make I recommend Hahnemühle collection cold pressed, even better rough and if you don't mind the costs Lanaquarelle rough. my advice is to try a lose sheet of paper or a small block to see whether you prefer cold or rough. they have various papers, you could try more with a block Hahnemühle selection. it's a block with different types of their paper, but the collection and Lanaquarelle isn't in there. Hahnemühle papers are all vegan.
Unfortunately supplies don’t make a better artist! Practice is the only way!! Yes paper will give the most boost to a hobbyist outcome. Limited supplies with more practice is the only honest way. Thanks for sharing your journey

I use door stops to elevate my paintings instead of an easel
Haha that's a great idea!
Omg I love arches and can find at hobby lobby and all fine art stores
Lovely video, lots of handy tips I also use mint and sweet tins to store watercolours the metal ones always come in so handy. 💕

Arches is my favorite watercolor paper
Looks as though your using the ceramic stacking palette upside down. But it serves you so it’s correct.
Which white paint do you use please

@@BrendaArtist Didn’t realize that. Thanks for sharing! I need to try Hahnemühle. Any papers that replicate arches? I love that paper so much.

That sponge needs cleaning. And I would spray a water clove oil mist over it to prevent mold and fungal growth on it.
I wonder if synthetic brushes are bad for the environment. I’ve never heard a claim that they’re biodegradable.
