Firstly, round of applause for the commitment to devour as much Motorhead music as you did in such a short time period. Having been a fan for close to 4 decades I probably still haven't garnered that level of intimacy with them. I listened to "1916" today, and you're spot on with the way the sound has changed. I guess in such an intense listening spell, it comes across more obviously. Quality video sir 🤘

If anyone has any doubt over how good a lyricist Lemmy is then just read the lyrics for Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me. That song is fking haunting, I think he wrote it for Doro but it was way too dark for her so he recorded it himself. Enjoyed this one mate, I have very few Motorhead albums but I've liked everything I've heard.

I just tried that one out. It's not bad that one. I can see a woman not wanting to sing it though as it could make people think maybe she was abused. Try Scorpions - Daddy's Girl. Same subject matter but I think it's a better song.

Up until this year, I was only familiar with the first 5-6 albums from Motorhead. I picked up a reissue of Inferno last spring and I really enjoyed it. Since then I have picked up most of the discography. I would agree that the best material is from early in their career, but there are some gems to be found later on!

The Young Ones was huge in New Zealand, and Motorheads performance of Ace Of Spades on it was earth
shattering for me. Incredible one song and out, on that programme.

Another great video - I love the early Motorhead and still have my OGs including No Sleep til Hammersmith, which I think is one of the best live albums ever, Overkill, Orgasmatron, Motorhead, Ace of Spades and No Remorse with the leather sleeve. I wish I had been able to see them live but growing up in Cornwall there were very few venues and I missed the boat. I think Motorhead is my favourite track from the classic line-up, and Killed by Death from the later line-up, but there are so many great tracks that it is hard to rank them.

Good to see you getting into Motorhead Mike, an often overlooked band despite Lemmy's cult status in the the metal world. Yeah his lyrics are great, he's up there with the best of them imo and his wit and humour really make them quite unique. Another perfect day and 1916 are a couple of albums I really like, because they are a bit different. There are other albums worth checking out, sacrifice, We are Motorhead, the world is yours and my personal favourite - Inferno. I'd say they'd at least hold their own against some of those "weaker" 80s albums. My fav song is over the top, he does a great version of it with the damned as well.

Better late than never Mickey! I think, unless I’m mistaken, we’re of a similar vintage, and from the same part of the world (NE England, though I guess you’re from nearer Durham). During that purple period from Overkill, thru Iron Fist, it felt as if Motörhead played Newcastle every month, though it was probably nearer every six. Overkill is my favorite sophomore album by any band, Bomber isn’t far behind and Ace of Spades needs no introduction - if I had had one criticism of that (and also Iron Fist), I’d have shaved a couple of tracks of both; e.g. Dance and Fire, Fire don’t do it for me. I was fortunate enough to be at both nights at Ncl City Hall when they recorded No Sleep, and both those shows together with the Leeds show (which wasn’t used I believe) are now available as a box set. After that, they kind of tailed of in popularity. On the Another Perfect Day tour, fine album incidentally - I think (though I may be wrong) - the balcony at City Hall was closed, and tracks like Overkill, Bomber, Iron Fist, and even Ace of Spades were dropped (Robbo refused to play them!). After that, they mostly played the Mayfair and by 1987, it was Spennymoor Leisure Centre! But the quality never really dipped that much. Yes, partly because of my age, the albums from Rock and Roll onwards don’t resonate quite so much. But in later life, I took a year or so and gave each one the time they deserve. Bastards, 1916, Motörizer, Aftershock, Sacrifice, and Inferno are all damn fine albums (Keys to the Kingdom is a top 10 Motörhead track for me). You also mentioned Iron Horse/Born to Lose. That’s my favorite track by the band, though the best version for me is off the much maligned On Parole; I like Lemmy era Hawkwind, so that whole album, with it’s boogie rock and roll vibe is tops too. Cheers. And thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Oh that's sad to hear about them late 80s tours being like that. It explains why I didn't see them as so important to me though. I live on the opposite coast. Newcastle is around 100 miles away from me. Been to the Mayfair dozens of times and loved it. Shame it came to an end. Cheers mate

Hey Mickey! That is the absolute brilliance of recorded music. You can newly discover old music. You can go away from an artist and go back to them. It will always be there! Granted, we can’t see a band like Motörhead again. But, with all the video content they created over the decades, you get a taste of it. So, with that said, I’m very happy that Motörhead caught up to you! Cheers!

This was fucking great Mick. Glad you decided to give them a real go again. Like you, I really got them when I noticed about how the lyrics are so intelligent and well written, they've definitely helped me out on a few occasions. By the way, Metropolis is about a film. I fuckjng skip it every time. Hated they played it live every fucking time.
Was interested to see how you got on with Another Perfect Day- the one everyone hated- criminally underrated record that is. It will grow on you.
Iron Fist get's a lot of shit, only has one really weak song (Loser). I love it.
Be good seeing how you like the post 1990 albums.
The four songs on No Remorse are cool, but Snaggletooth and Locomotive fucking rule!! (The latest Live At The Monrreux Jazz Festival album opens with Snaggletooth...)
Orgasmatron is an absolute beast of an album. Mad how he woke up from a Speed binge in a hotel room, wrote it in 15 minutes, went back to bed and couldn't remember anything about it...!
Rock'n'Roll is my favourite album of their'x and is my favourite song ever.
Fuck me I'm glad my Eat The Rich didn't cost me £55!! I have the soundtrack lp as well.
1916 is s great one, but the production let's it down s bit. Still a banger though.
On he Motörhead ranking stream I done, Kris called 1916, March Or Die and Bastards their "Cock Rock Era". Th beard shave lasted onecalbum cover as did those shorts- you should find Scott Ian's story about them, so funny! Don't write off the records after this because there are some fucking stellar records in there believe me, the lyrics get better too, no point leaving a job half finished.
How could you not remember "The Hammer"though?? Haha!!
    Great video though!!.

Going to Brazil and Ramones are 2 of my favourite all time Motorhead songs March or die apart from the shit cover is my least favourite. Your take on "1916" is completely right. It´s a transition album, I like the innocence of that period, still the same but different. A bit like "Another...", I love the album to death. Yeah ,in "1991" you can hear a lot of US influences but it´s a step aside that I like. They took another step with "Sacrifice", more to the European (global) sounding stuff they did until the end. "The World Is Yours" is another one high up on my list, their "elderly" masterpiece.

I haven't heard any of the top 5 songs you mentioned, so I'll give them a listen. I also remember seeing the Young Ones. I saw a few episodes. @@metalmickey I listened to Snaggletooth and Killed by Death last night. They weren't bad. I get what you are saying about them being a lyrical band, but I usually don't pay attention to lyrics.
