    This was a great series, Mike, I really enjoyed it!
    As could probably have been expected, there were some surprising picks, in terms of inclusions, omissions, as well as positions! Also some pretty unique takes and slightly out there opinions, but, as always, endlessly interesting and entertaining to watch.
    I'd love to see you take on other decades if/when the mood takes you!
    Cheers! 🤘

      @@seanbeast939 Cheers mate. I think most people are now at a stage where we've heard any of the easy to get into albums from the old days. If we don't know an album it's likely to be a bit more attention needed and if you've got a hundred other things to get yo it's not going to happen.

    Never in a million years did I expect Stewed to the Gills to be number One. Kudos. I love that record and it's one of a trio of LPs that shifted my listening from Metal.. which by 1990 had almost disappeared thanks to Metallica and the radio friendly blandness/safeness of the Black Album- which I hate and have never listened to in it's entirety or owned. I loved that Gaye Bykers record but was not keen on other stuff apart from their last record, Pernicious Nonsense. I was a huge fan (and still am) of Pop Will Eat itself though, so my pick from number one would be the untouchable "This is the hour.. This is the day.. This is THIS LP from them in 89.. if you are a fan of Stewed to the Gills, then I highly recommend PWEI on that record as it is just one of the best British rock/alternative albums ever.

    1989 is like the height of Metal musics popularity. Apart from the ones you've talked about in this video, I can name Sodom - Agent Orange, Cloven Hoof- A Sultan's Ransom, Metal Church - Blessing in Disguise, Helstar - Nosferatu, Savatage - Gutter Ballet, Sepultura - Beneath the Remains as some of my faves from that year. Enjoyed this series Mike. Yeah the Real Thing is a great album, agree with you that it really gets going part way into it, but the other tracks are not ones you want to skip either.
    One thing I've noticed with this series is how low down some of the Maiden albums were. i thought perhaps they'd all be pushing top 3 minimum. Would be cool if you can do some other decades if you have enough albums you like from them.

    • @metalmickey
      @metalmickey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GRockVC I think a few people are surprised by the position of the Maidens. I love all their albums enough to be my favourite band. Take Testament for instance. They've rates very highly and I love Souls of Black too. But after 1990 my Interest plummets. That's the same with a lot of bands after 1990. I don't mind some stuff but miles away from how I think of them in the 80s.

    1989 wasn't my favorite year. The Real Thing was really good and I really could replace one of the other albums on my list with it. I've heard of Gaye Bykers on Acid, but have never actually heard them. I'll eventually check it out, you've mentioned how much you like that album a few times, but I remember hearing about them back in the 80s/early 90s. I've heard Alison Hell and the song they did about mac & cheese and liked them both, but I've never heard anything else from Annihilator. If it's that bad, I probably won't bother.
